  1. Looks a nice bass @stewblack Never played a Bass Collection P bass - but I've heard good reports Belated Happy NBD to you
  2. Yes, I've still got my 32" Medium Scale Japan P bass too. (Think that's a keeper, as it's even rarer, and compact & lightweight) Haven't totally made up my mind as to my next sale yet.... the jury is still out - but I've got basses I'm not playing much
  3. Hi Sidney, welcome to BC. Glad to hear that you're enjoying bass
  4. That's exactly what I thought when you sold your JV Fender @Paul S Needs must good sir - I'll be selling another bass soon after as well...
  5. As per title, for sale only is my 1982 Japan built JV Squier Precision bass. (EDIT: May now consider trade for a JV Jazz) For a near 40 year old bass, it's in very nice condition, with just a few light scratches and "dings" here & there (mainly on the edges of the body) There's a little light "blooming" on the Tort scratchplate, and light buckle rash on the back in the usual place. I recently had the frets professionally crowned and polished, by Dave Dearnaley the well known Cardiff Luthier. This bass sounds lovely and "warm" - absolutely spot on, nailing that vintage P bass tone. It feels lovely and "worn in / played in" The nut width feels much like any vintage P bass, but I think the neck on these early Japan FugiGen basses have a slightly shallower depth - feels very comfortable to me anyway (and I tend to prefer Jazz necks) As far as I can see, it's all original. Weight is just about bang on 4kg. I need to thin the herd, otherwise I'd be keeping this bass - but needs must... I have too many basses! So no trades please... but I may be tempted if you have a 5 string fretted Wingbass (maybe) Collection only from Cardiff - but I could be tempted to meet sellers halfway-ish. I've got Vox amp headphones so you can test it. I could also be tempted to let you have a good deal on an 80's (I believe) Roadworn Fender (G&G) Hardcase - which this bass looks lovely in Thanks for looking EDIT: I tried to show some of the light marks & dings - but the bass was too shiny!
  6. Hi @richardd - do you know what this lovely bass weighs? I had a MIJ Jazz, with photo-flame finish, and from memory, that was quite lightweight.... Cheers, Marc
  7. Looking great. Such precise, neat and tidy workmanship. If only I were able to do the same! Super stuff @Jabba_the_gut
  8. I used to have a very similar Tanglewood "Elfin" and couldn't get over how "Big" that sounded This looks to be an even better option, due to that useful modification which allows for easy, repeated removal of the neck - nice idea! My old Elfin was bought for a BC member who wanted it for a child, and he did message me that it was perfect.... I used to take it along as a backup, and on a few pub / camping type trips, and it was superb If I needed a small, travel-type bass at the moment, I'd be going for this without hesitation Looks a bargain, especially with those Allen Key Bolt inserts GLWTS - someone's going to get a great deal
  9. OMG that's gorgeous! Lovely colour. Really works with the maple & blocks. GLWTS
  10. Beautiful colour
  11. Well, that looks "different" Happy Jack. And I bet that humbucker sounds thunderous! I shouldn't be looking at more basses, and wondering what they would sound and play like.... but sadly, my addiction refuses to abate By way of interest - what is the "considerable weight" you talk of?
  12. This is one lovely P bass. Wish it was mine!
  13. Very sorry to hear this sad news. I was never particularly a Budgie fan, but well aware of the bands and musicians they influenced. I was playing an open mic night in Cardiff a couple of years back, with a singer-guitarist pal and our mate who's a drummer It went pretty well, and our singer went & sat down next to an old bloke sat watching us, started chatting away. Turns out, it was Burke, and I hadn't recognised him He said "well played lads" "Really enjoyed your mini set". We had a chat, and our guitarist had actually played with him several times before Burke was a really decent sort of guy - not at all a sufferer of "rock star syndrome", no sense of self importance or ego Hope he carries on for as long as possible - really hope he can get chance to record those unheard Budgie songs
  14. I'm sorry.... but there's nothing anyone can do for you.... Except, we could form a self help group "Bassaholics Anonymous"
  15. Sunburst, Tort, Rosewood board, block & bound neck ooooh my oooh my! Never seen one like this before Want, but can't buy any more basses GLWTS
  16. Glad you've found a new band @BrunoBass Best of luck with that.
  17. @@MartinB - I saw these were on offer some time back Most of the other CV guitars had sold, and a few retailers had some of these left - they must have been a less popular colour But as you also think - the colour is superb IMO. I was so tempted at the time, and when the offer ended, I was kicking myself I bought myself a rather nice second-hand blue MIM Strat .... and there's not much chance of me being asked to play that live either - so you are not alone
  18. As others have said, "better" is largely subjective. And I've heard some budget speakers sound as good as some more expensive models Re your question about whether a 15" is better than say a 4x10 My observation here is that a 15" can sometimes sound too "boomy" - depending on which bass you're using, which amp head, what the venue size & layout is etc etc However, as someone who doubles up on Bass guitar and upright (Acoustic or EUB) - I must say, I've never been happy with 15"s. I always seemed to end up with either uncontrollable "boom" or else a really wooly, undefined bottom end of the tonal range. 12's, 10's and even 8's I've been much happier with. Smaller speakers seem to deliver a much tighter, punchier tone Of course, to move the same amount of air as a larger speaker, you may then need more speakers Given the choice of a 15 or a 4 x 10, for my purposes, I'd go for the 4 x 10 But really I'd prefer two 2 x 10 cabs - to give me flexibility for instance, some times I'm playing smaller venues or acoustic gigs
  19. Briefly tried one of these a few months back - just out of curiosity. Really like the colour, and it looks great with the maple fretboard As has been said, these are great basses for the money, and as this one is virtually brand new - it's even better value for money Cracking bass. GLWTS @Sibob
  20. @gjones that Strat looks to be the same colour as my CV P bass, which is Sonic Blue. I'm not sure whether it's a Classic Vibe for certain - but I would guess that they may have released a Strat in the same colour, during the 1st runs of Classic Vibe instruments. I played a CV Strat in Sunburst, and though I'm no guitarist (I dabble a bit, occasionally) it seemed a well put-together, nicely finished guitar, and felt very comfortable to play IMO. My CV Precision is absolutely lovely. I need to thin the P bass herd, and I'm not selling that one. It's my first choice when I need a Precision. Super comfortable neck, quite lightweight, lovely construction quality & finish, and great sound. I previously had a Fiesta Red CV Precision, and foolishly sold it. That was among the slightly later batch of Classic Vibes, and still great quality, though my 2009 CV is a tad nicer still. Those early China made CV's are really superb. The newer Indonesian made CV's are pretty good instruments, but I've played a few now, and they're not in the same league as the earlier China made CV's. Construction of the Indonesian CV's is good, but the finish is not quite as nice, they don't seem quite as good quality and just don't "feel" quite as nice to play. The few I've tried in shops, also seem a little heavier. I didn't take scales with me to check the weight (lol) but they did seem heavier.... Like I say though, they are pretty good instruments - just not as good as the Chinese CV's I really wish I'd bought that Sunburst Strat I tried.... and I really really wish I'd kept my Fiesta Red CV Precision EDIT: Re the glossy finish on the necks - I used a super fine abrasive cloth on my CV P bass neck. It has made the finish feel more smooth, and "quicker" / less likely to be "sticky" when I'm sweating, whilst retaining its' appearance i.e. I haven't taken much off the surface of the finish EDIT2: - Apologies @uk_lefty - I meant to ask whether your CV was a Chinese or Indonesian one?
  21. Lovely looking bass. Cracking colour Happy NBD. Enjoy, and let us know what you think of the bass
  22. Play some fretted basses first - try out as many as you can. Are there any kindly BC members out there, who are willing to let you try out their fretted Wals? I've found out the hard way, that if you really really like a bass, and feel that you "bond" with it - then you should probably keep it Can you justify owning two basses (I certainly find a way of justifying owning rather more than that! lol) Though it's an expensive way of doing things, in this case I'd be tempted to get the Wal fretted. I'm just thinking that if you sell, and then get sellers regret.... you may not be able to find another bass you like as much as this one.
  23. Just go with whichever bass seems most comfortable, both in standing up, and seated positions. Add to that, which you think sounds best. Bear in mind though - you can always upgrade pickups at a later date. As with many of us on here, you may end up buying your favourite bass.... only to add the other one to your collection a little while down the line! Try as many other basses as you can too - don't suddenly get one on a whim - unless you instantly feel "This is the best yet - this is the one for me" In which case - just get that bass... Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide
