2.
I was very gracious about it!
Good. What a cool brother! next question: Hey brother, is your car big enough to transport a DB about?
3. Nice sound, I've been playing for a similar sort of time really... Well, I started with a Stagg over a year back, and I didn't get into it, until I changed the awful strings it came with.... much better now I bought a Boosey & Hawkes from a fellow BC'er and have never looked back One thing I have done, is initially to sort of "strip back" my playing I was firstly trying to play the DB like I play bass guitar, but that didn't work so well for me Nice to hear that you've made the switch easily I fitted Innovation SIlver Slaps to my bass, and I like them How do you feel about them?
4. Thanks to both Etienne and xzodar Both great BC'ers to deal with - thoroughly nice guys The pickup system is great, and really captures some of the lovely sound and acoustic quality of my Double bass and xzodar, that Fender Jazz is great - it really feels like it's got some mojo! Cheers Marc
5. Welcome to BC and yes, this is a great story Let us know how you get on with it.... Best Marc
6.
CAPTION?
Everyone said, Dan's bass playing was utter pants
7.
CAPTION?
"When I sniff the roisin, I feel like I can play 2 basses at once"
8. Welcome back to the wonderful world of DB I haven't been here too long myself but I don't intend leaving Let us know how you get on with your action & strings Marc
9. Hi Jesterbassman Welcome to basschat Let us know what sort of stuff you do, what gear you have etc Cheers Marc
10. Oh no! I've just bought a lovely roadworn jazz and now I want this one too Stop tempting me, please Wish I had the dosh.... Lovely bass
11. Bought a roadworn jazz bass from Pete Really smooth transaction Such a nice, reasonable and genuine guy to deal with When I picked the bass up, I even got a really nice cup of coffee Top bloke to deal with I wouldn't have any hesitations in buying from Pete again Cheers matey Marc Edit: we had a great chat too.... so if you're picking anything up form him, be prepared to have a good old chin-wag
12. SOLD To Me - Thanks ever so much xzodar It's a cracking bass Even better than I thought it would be Cheers also to all those who spoke very highly of these fab instruments Marc
13. Well, I went for that roadworn Jazz bass I was thinking about purchased from fellow bc member The finish is superb It really does look genuinely roadworn I can't believe just how well it plays I've heard others talk of this series being as good as they are talked up to be it plays superbly, sounds great ..... and I love it Would I swap it for a brand new, shiny, unmarked example? Nah....
14.
I wouldn't buy a reliced bass, but I am not vehemently opposed to them. It is just a finish option, like sunburst (which I wouldn't buy either)
I do like the look of some roadworn basses, as I've said earlier and I may actually be about to buy one Again, it depends on how "well" it has been done and there's a pic of a P Bass somewhere above that's in a totally OTT state IMO As Alfie says, it's really another finish option If you don't like them, well buy a pristine one There are plenty of pristine finishes and colours I would never buy Oddly enough, as someone else has already mentioned, Roadworn seems to work well with Fenders, but not so well on other guitars.... Wonder why that is? Marc
15. I didn't used to like the idea of pre-roadworn guitars and basses However, I've warmed to them recently and I guess it depends on the quality of the "wearing" and how convincing it looks I've seen a few recently, which look pretty good IMO I'm not a huge fan of Fenders, but I'm really fancying a roadworn jazz at the moment.... They do look hot, to me
16. There's no such thing as "non-photogenic" BTW .... well, except for me of course! lol Yes, let us know how you get on Sarah I'm sure several of us are intrigued And Bluejay, I'm a lefty DB player Oh, but I play right handed - there's another thread on that peculiarity already
17.
NO ! ....I am Andy Fallon (should I rename this the 'Spartacus' thread? )
Lol
18. Hi ubassman, It's not great quality TBH - but it's OK I just thought someone might be able to make use of it besides, I've met some great folk on this forum Hope someone wants it anyways Cheers again
19. NOW SOLD - PLEASE REMOVE thanks I've got one of these for sale They're from G4M and normally retail at around £99 [s]£60[/s] [s]Price drop to £55[/s] Price Drop to £50 It's hardly been used, and is in near mint condition Personally, I found it a bit bulky and difficult to cart about so I've ordered a padded soft case If you have a van or larger car, this case would be ideal It offers pretty good protection in my opinion, but as I say, it's a tad bulkier than I had anticipated Collection only - it's too big to post Alternatively, I could arrange a meet somewhere not too far from the Cardiff / South Wales area Cheers all Marc S
20. Hi there. I've got a 3/4 size Double bass gigbag. There isn't much padding. It's more of a raincoat really. It's surplus to requirements So I thought I'd offer it free for any BC'er who may need it Collection only, from Cardiff Cheers & Happy New Year all Marc
21. Hi there, Please forgive my ignorance re Phil Jones gear but are these like the Markbass amps, in that you get a more powerful output when you add an extension cab? I'm looking for a small, portable, lightweight amp like this but want the added flexibility of adding an additional speaker cab, if poss Cheers
22. Hi bassgirl17 Yes, I'd recommend taking a look at some of those free lessons They're excellent Good luck and Happy New Year
23. Dammit - missed a real bargain here! Looks nice Hope King Prawn is happy with it....
24. I've got an Ibanez Electro-acoustic, and it's way louder than any unplugged Electric I often rehearse along with a cd or MP3 player, and I'd never hear my unplugged bass guitars The Ibanez though, is plenty loud When I'm jamming along with acoustic guitarists in the house it really depends on which guitarists I'm jamming with Some pals play rather heavier, but one pal who does far more finger picking, and plays much quieter - in which case I can hear my Ibanez fine The louder guitarists are exactly the same guys who keep turning their amps up, when we're playing live or rehearsing in the studio! Overall, I'd say it's a tad quiet, but it's a brilliant guitar and it wasn't expensive (just over £200) but it sounds great through an amp, although the E string seems a tad quieter than the others - just a tad though..... It plays & sounds like it cost twice as much, and I use it more than any other bass for rehearsing Wouldn't part with it! Hope this helps... Happy new year anyhow Marc
