1. Congrats indeed, chuffed of Scotland I spent most of 2012 and 2013 in covers and tribute bands that folded.... I spent ages learning songs, only for the band to fold, before reaching full potential, or ironically (and frustratingly) - just as we had some good-paying bookings and lots of enquiries coming in.... Initially, I thought of it as valuable time wasted but on reflection it isn't "wasted" if it has given you some valuable rehearsal time, deadlines to learn a stack of songs by, something to aim for etc Now things are rather better, band-wise and I'm also hoping 2014 will be rather better Good luck matey Marc aka, slightly chuffed, of Wales
2. I bought a cheap bow, from ebay brand new, for about £35 It's wooden, not carbon fibre I'm sure there are plenty of good reasons for getting a much better bow but I'm only dabbling with it, and it seems fine If you're just learning - maybe one of these isn't a bad idea? I didn't want to spend a lot, as I'm not sure how much bowing I'll be doing.... Like I say, seems OK to me Marc
3. OK Sarah, Looks like no takers You are welcome to have it PM me and we'll arrange to get it back to you
4. Sounds like you're getting to know how to put a bass together and all for a good price - nice way to learn Don't forget to post a couple of pics Cheers again, and good luck Marc
5. Now Sold - to lucky me
6. Bought a Phil Jones bass rig from Debs She was a pleasure to deal with The gear is in great condition I can tell she's looked after it I'd have no hesitation in dealing with her again Thanks Debs
7. Although they can be a bit quiet when jamming along with an acoustic guitarist A lot depends on who you're jamming along with, and how loud they play I've got an Ibanez Electro-acoustic bass, it was just over £200 and it is fabulous! It's plenty loud enough to jam along with music at home, and work songs out, without the need for an amp It's a dream to play, and when plugged into a decent bass amp there aren't many basses that sound half as good, for twice the price It's a little bright at times, but again - you get used to that & allow for it I've gigged it a few times, and often get favourable comments Last Sunday, another bassist, and a guitarist who also plays a bit of bass both approached me after an open-mic night They both asked how much the bass cost - thinking it must have been a small fortune! Neither could believe the quality of sound I was getting from it, nor the price I would give one a try, before judging..... I've got several basses, and this would be one I'd be reluctant to ever let go of Marc
8.
I would like to respond to the creator of this: 'How much easier can we make it for you guys?'... How about some frets, smart ass!
9. Actually, I think I'm putting this case down unnecessarily! It's OK quality - certainly better than carting a DB about with no protection It's good protection from rain too There must be a BC'er who'd like this C'mon folks, it's FREE!
10. Some nice hints on here Useful stuff Thanks for sharing

15. Nice sound, I've been playing for a similar sort of time really... Well, I started with a Stagg over a year back, and I didn't get into it, until I changed the awful strings it came with.... much better now I bought a Boosey & Hawkes from a fellow BC'er and have never looked back One thing I have done, is initially to sort of "strip back" my playing I was firstly trying to play the DB like I play bass guitar, but that didn't work so well for me Nice to hear that you've made the switch easily I fitted Innovation SIlver Slaps to my bass, and I like them How do you feel about them?
16. Thanks to both Etienne and xzodar Both great BC'ers to deal with - thoroughly nice guys The pickup system is great, and really captures some of the lovely sound and acoustic quality of my Double bass and xzodar, that Fender Jazz is great - it really feels like it's got some mojo! Cheers Marc
