1. Having tried a couple of Limelights, I can only vouch for just how good these basses are Shame you're not closer, and up for a trade, cos I'd really like this bass Ho hum, there we go GLWTS Someone's gonna get a real bargain!
2. This looks a lovely bass for the money I'm a sucker for maple necks & block inlays Like that red scratchplate too .... If I didn't already have too many basses, this would be a good standby / spare for gigging GLWTS - someone's gonna get a lot of bass for the money, I think

Hello there

Welcome Yannick Hope you enjoy the forum - I'm sure you will Croeso, from Wales!
4. Buuuuuuump Can't believe this is still here Go on someone - treat yourself for Christmas Would consider swap / trade for a Limelight P bass or a P bass with maple neck & block inlays
5. Please let us know what you think about the Entwistle pickups Wilco I'm tempted to try a set in my P bass They certainly are reasonably priced....
6. Shame steviedee maybe the bass had been mucked about with, by someone who doesn't know what they're doing .... or was the bad vibe from the Cash converters staff? Give another one of these basses a try That's my advice... Good luck with your search
7. Welcome you see, from that London, From me, by yurr in South Wales Enjoy the forum
8. Hi again SubsonicSimpleton, Many thanks for posting that diagram I thought that would roughly be the arrangement Nice to see it confirmed though I suppose the tricky part, is "catching" the soundpost though? .... I never was much of a fisherman! lol Cheers again Really glad I saw this thread and I must get around to making my own soundpost tool Marc
9. I'm sure I recall seeing at least one Hagstrom that looked like an SG? Could be wrong, of course - as memories can be unreliable.... especially my ageing one! One nice thing about seeing an old bass that can hold its' own today Is that at one time, most musicians seemed to have a preconception that you either bought a "big name American brand" - or you bought rubbish Yes, there were some awful instruments out there at the time .... but there was some good stuff out there too.... Your friend is indeed a gem of a pal ... I can't get a drink out of some of my pals!
10. Something a bit different! Nice to see old basses surviving and still being used I saw a couple of Hagstroms - if my memory serves me - but don't think I ever saw one like this What a great friend Thanks for posting
11. Shame you aren't finishing this project Beedster I was interested when you posted the thread... Sadly, I just don't have time But I do like the idea of this GLWTS Someone please buy this - I want to see it finished! lol

http://bassbags.co.u...ble-bass-rosin/ Our standard shipping is two working days with Royal Mail.
Just bought some from ebay a few days back Taking a few days to arrive though... Wish I'd seen your link sooner BassBags Thanks for the link - v useful
13. Ah, gone to a good home I see I had a Boosey & Hawkes - it was lovely Good luck with it Burg Enjoy..... I'm sure you will
14.
Depends what you do it for! Love or money!
Indeed. I do it because I love playing Yes, there will be bad gigs, yes there will be gigs that don't pay well But if you count those as free rehearsals, and help towards getting better and tighter You can charge more in future... I know how you feel A lot seems to also depend on the area you're playing in.. Pubs are having a tough time too I'm sure you'll feel better soon enough As others have said, if you can make some complete strangers happy, and get a real positive vibe from playing, it's a dose of medicine Playing bass in a band is my hobby ... and long may it remain so
15. I hadn't realised Innovation did 1/2 size strings As someone who hasn't been playing DB that long, I too found many DB strings to be uncomfortable, and with too high a tension, initially Then I tried Innovation Silver Slaps, and loved them The tension was much lower, and I found them much more comfortable to play Honeys do indeed have a slightly lower tension than the others you mention But give the silver slaps some consideration.... They are slightly darker sounding again, but they're great strings (EDIT: And slightly lower tension than the Honeys too, I think) .... and Innovations are generally cheaper too - think I paid about £85 incl P&P Good luck I know it's not as simple a choice as strings for bass guitar! Cheers
16. I've been playing about 2 years now Although I don't think I've improved too much I'd say, just build up the amount of time on the DB slowly.... You are using different muscles, and those you have been using, you are now using differently I'd say get a few lessons too (although I've been lazy in that respect) There are links to some good Youtube lessons on here too So seek them out as well Glad to hear you're enjoying it It is fun eh? Addictive too Good luck
17.
Here's mine, No124 58, Jazz neck. It's a wonderful Bass and I couldn't be any happier with it. Sadly, If my Warwick doesn't sell then this might have to go.
Nice looking P bass! I agree with Jazzneck Sell the Warwick.... You can get another easy enough But that Limelight is harder to replace....
18. Thanks to gjones of this fine forum for this link, but here's an interesting youtube video, comparing basses http://youtu.be/x6Cd98DH__U
19. Replied - thanks Can I also add, after playing the Limelight that FuNkShUi was recently selling, I'm also on the lookout for a Limelight P bass And I also meant to add, that a cash adjustment either way would be added too....
20. Hi Alex, Welcome to the world of bass (we're much friendlier than guitarists, aren't we? lol) And welcome to basschat too Those old Aria's are pretty damn good basses IMO I used to fancy owning one years back, and still like the look of them If you picked it up cheap, then all the better Marc PS. You are also welcome to beat my country at Rugby.... .... what? Oh you already did!
21. Yes, I have a fretless - though I just use it to muck about on, in the main I'll have a try of that trick with the hanky though.... The effects unit I heard rendered a really good DB sound I don't know how it did it, but it was pretty close Still looking for effects suggestions too BTW How good is the Zoom 3? Does the rather cheaper Zoom 2 also have a DB - esque effect? Cheers all Marc
22.
Take a hanky or a sock to a guitar shop. Pick a fretless bass. Use the sock to dampen the strings by the bridge. Play like you would your double bass. Take on cheddatom's suggestions. You might like what you hear.
Hmmm, interesting - must try that I'm intrigued now!
23.
The Hurting is a great album. Easy to slate them for being overproduced but underneath it all is great songwriting and hooks
Yes, overproduction was possibly a part of that era & genre But as you say, some good songs in there Even if, like me, they aren't your favourite band, you can easily find yourself singing along...... ...and knowing a lot of the words etc
