2.
I gigged this for last night's 2.5 hour shenanigans and thoroughly enjoyed using it. Light, great sounding pup and just so playable. I STILL kept looking forlornly at the Road Worn jazz sat on it's stand, but that's the price to pay when you have 3 wonderful playable basses
If you have 3 basses that you think are wonderful - it's hardly a "price to pay" The nice thing is, you can pick & choose what you want to play on the day Whatever takes your fancy at the time That's not a price - that's a fab state of affairs You only have 3 basses - I've got way more But Discreet told me "You don't have to justify a new P to anyone, not even yourself" Which is a saying I may get printed onto a teeshirt (for my wife! lol) Never did get that Limelight - cos I bought a White Fender P on Tuesday Rosewood, not maple - but it's got a Paul Simonen / Dee Dee air about it and BTW - it's lovely Glad you're enjoying your new bass and great news that you have gigged it and like the sound ...result!
3.
Fingers were hurt in the making of this picture!
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Hope your fingers are OK now? Have you tried double bass finger-tape? EDIT: Or is that stuff no good?
4. Hi Nigel, I first played bass in the early / mid eighties Then I took about 25 years off, and thought I'd never pick a bass up again However, after that prolonged break, I'm now quite a few years into my second spell of playing And I have to say, I'm loving it now more than ever Welcome to basschat but moreover, welcome back to the wonderful world of bass PS. I never did manage to teach myself much guitar ... a few chords, rather dodgily played I'm just over that there river Severn ... and it's a sunny day here (for a change lol) Marc
5. I bought one of these a short while back, from someone on this very forum At the time, I wasn't a huge fan of Fenders But my RW Jazz has changed my outlook completely Bought specifically to fit in with the "look" of a band / project I'm in but snapped up as soon as I had played it, My RW Jazz is my favourite bass guitar ever A great look, great tone and feeling sooooo comfortable to play I've played many a bass, and quite a number of Jazzes This beats even 2 really nice US's I've owned Have a bump, for a simply fantastic bass Believe me, if you try one of these and you like Jazzes, you WILL want this bass And yes, there's one in a shop in Cardiff, and it's £1100..... I'd love a RW P in Fiesta Red .....drool!
6.
Clearly, the only sensible solution is to own one of each.... ...in every colour.
Definitely this!
7.
I hope the KKK don't take your baby away!
Missed this thread, sorry about that karlfer Yes, I'm of that "certain age" as must be Lynottfan, for that great quote! I simply had to try one of these, so went to do so a short while back I also like the look of this bass, and the Ramones are still played from time to time in my household Although I thought the bass was pretty good overall, and better than another Mex P in the shop I found a few niggles. I suspect it may have been partly down to set-up but there were a few buzzes, and to me, the neck didn't feel great OK, but not great... EDIT: and the finish seemed more glossy than I'd hoped.... and a slight "sharpness" to the edges of the neck... Better than the Mex next to it, but definitely not as well finished as the US the other side of it or as nice as my Bitsa P or even my Squier VM series P/J Perhaps this one wasn't quite up to scratch, as I've read generally good reports The neck on my Mex RW Jazz is immense, so I know Mex's can be superb Anyhow, glad you're pleased with your Dee Dee Love the plate on the back, and somehow, I'm pleased they put Dee Dee's signature on the back Marc PS. A lot of colour pics I've seen recently, show Dee Dee with a white P But with a dark red Tort plate. I always remember it as black though... Although perhaps my memory is tainted by most of the live pics of the Ramones being Black & White ??
8.
Just received pictures from Mark of my finished bass to say I'm pleased is an understatement
WOW! Lucky you! That looks fab ooo, I'm jealous lol
9. I'm in my 2nd spell of playing - I had a break of nearly 25 years! First time around, I had an early 70's Fender P Lovely bass, but heavy, and really chunky neck - too uncomfortable for me That put me off Fenders for a long time Then I tried a RW Jazz from someone selling one on BC I loved it instantly - so I bought it It's an amazing bass - the best I've ever owned, or even played And I've owned and played quite a few I also had a US Jazz in White, which looked stunning, but was never as good as my RW I since bought another US Jazz, (72 re-issue) which is lovely But for me, my RW is the most comfortable to play, and sounds fab It's just got everything I want I know many don't like relic or roadworn guitars But it's so liberating not to have to worry too much about it getting scratched or "dinged" It's a real workhorse, and for a Mex made bass, it simply outshines even the best US models I've tried I know I'll never get rid of it I have several basses, and this is my go-to and my fave ....It took me a long time to find my ideal bass But this Roadworn Jazz is just that bass - amazing EDIT: And I know some talk of "fake mojo" but this bass looks, sounds and feels like it's been around a long time...
10. Only just saw this thread Just wanted to say how sorry I am this has happened to you Thanks for letting us know about this modus operandi though Nicking gear from a band who have just auditioned you, and appearing helpful as you do so It makes my blood boil too Good luck in getting your gear back and I hope this nasty individual is caught.....
11. Maybe it's a common theme among us bass players? Perhaps we don't like to be in the spotlight? Is this why we chose bass over lead singing, or guitar? Who knows.... But yep, another one here, who doesn't get complimented too often and doesn't quite know how to respond when he does get a compliment I had a great moment a month or so back though One of my bass playing "idols" Paul Gray (Ex Damned, Hot Rods, UFO) Played at our local folk club, in a rather good band Paul heavily influenced me & my playing during my 1st spell of bass (back in the 80's) and even kindly gave me a couple of free lessons! I did a stint in the folk club scratch band, and as I stepped off stage Paul very kindly said "Well played mate" - and I responded with "thanks, glad you enjoyed it" ... I walked out of there feeling ten feet tall though, I can tell you To be honest though, I get more comments about my gear than I do my playing lol EDIT: Usual comments like "Is that a Cello or what?" re my double bass and even "I've never seen a Bassoon before" - or they could have been saying "Buffoon" I suppose
12.
You just need to play both basses until you don't notice their differences.
+1 Personally, I find it's nice to have different basses each with it's own feel & sound Years back, I could only afford one bass I found the result of this was, that I was really used to that bass but on picking up other peoples basses, some felt rather alien to me Now I've got too many lol - but I find I can pick up other basses, and am more comfortable with them Maybe just alter your scale exercises to suit each bass
13. It all depends what you want to make it, and what the other attendees want to make of it If you want to all just sit in a circle and play at each other, then it may well be sh*te But I've been to a few local bass bashes and I've enjoyed meeting other local bass players, having a play with their basses, and tried a few guitars and amps I might never have tried otherwise Meeting up with other players, and having a good chin-wag comparing notes and exchanging a few jokes far from being sh*te - it's been a really pleasant experience for me Hope you find the same
14. Is there any chance the seller would let you take some photos, or send you some photos so you could post them here for opinions? As others have said, it may not be a huge problem in itself.... You could also ask for a fellow BC DB'ers help on here? Maybe some kind local DB player would be happy to go along with you and give it the once over? - Maybe cover their petrol money & the price of a pint? - Just a thought Good luck anyhow I'm so glad I delved into the world of DB It's an exciting adventure Let us know how you get on
15. Hi, what's the neck width & depth like at fret 1 ? Is it like the old US P basses, or slightly narrower? Looks lovely
16.
Might be offloading my CV Tele now. Seen a Fender Jap I've kinda pulled the trigger on one in one out.
What are you saying? You can't have too many basses ... but you can have too many guitars.... ? I recently played a Japan Fender P Really nice maple neck, with block inlays It was still in the shop last week .... so I had another go Top quality Fender Japan stuff out there... ...mmmmm
17. Yes, red is at the far end of the visible spectrum, and absorbs all other visible wavelengths (in addition to UV) So any red dyes and pigments tend to be less permanent than other colours As well as old Vauxhalls / Fords etc - just look at posters (and particularly photos in shop windows) Of course, whatever coating is on this body will help protect the paint from fading ... so it might take a long time to fade.... Difficult to tell from photos, but it looks a more vivid red than Fiesta (is it maybe Candy Apple Red?) As others have said, Fiesta Red tends to look more pink You could always do a bit of a re-spray? looking forward to seeing this one progress Good luck
18. Sadly, this sort of thing seems to be on the increase.... Doesn't look quite "right" to me The body doesn't look like a Fender Hope no-one gets ripped off
19. Sounds like good advice from Rabbie - ta for that Good luck ikay - hope it goes well, let us know how you get on
20. Just received my Shadow Double Bass pickup, Which I bought from Hector Great pickup, fast posting, and well packed for safety Top bloke to deal with Trade in confidence BC'ers
21.
Great story, restores your faith. Those tops are excellent
Indeed! Well done to chaypup & your mate too The Blockheads are still cool, in fact, they're ultra-cool
22.
I hope not John but what a can of worms I've opened... I might buy it then stick a Poundland Decal on it & then start the bidding at £2.00 Fair play to the seller for withdrawing it.
Yes, you did indeed open a can of worms But good on you, otherwise some poor unsuspecting individual might have been ripped off The very fact that it got to £350 demonstrates that some individuals couldn't spot it was a fake, and it's quite worrying that ebay aren't interested, even when several people report an item Well done Ghost Rider and thebrig.... I'm pleased the seller decided to pull it from ebay - he did the decent thing I sincerely hope he or his late Dad weren't ripped off.....
23. Looks amazing. These Fender Roadworn basses are great
24.
Well I hope you're satisfied. My bass playing brothers. Because of your evil and bad bad advice..I've just pulled the trigger on my very first jazz bass ( after 40 years of playing).
The same thing happened to me a few years ago I was after a vintage Jazz sound, for a band I'm in I didn't particularly like Jazz basses, or even Fenders for that matter However, I now love the Jazz tone, sound, feel, comfort & look Nothing else is quite like it IMO.... Welcome to the world of Jazz Converts Yes, go on a Jaco bender as Elias Mooseblaster says There's nothing wrong with trying to incorporate sounds, styles & "licks" or riffs that other players use However, listen to other players in the meantime too and do what feels right for you Enjoy your Jazz .... and post some piccies when it arrives
