1. Did a trade with Paul, with his squier bass and my One10 cab Just have to say what a nice bloke he is. Such a reasonable, personable guy, Honest as the day is long, on the longest day of the year Could have stopped & chatted all day. Pleasure doing business with you Paul Deal in absolute confidence fellow BC'ers. All the best matey And thanks very much again
2. Definitely a touch of Paul Simonon, and DeeDee Ramone about this bass. Glad you're enjoying it. Limelight's are just great. Love the level of relicing on this bass. Lucky you.
3. As others have said, you are de-tuning an E string a long way. Can you try a B string, perhaps from a lighter gauge set? If your E string is the only one de-tuned, and the other strings are normal tuning / tension, then it's only reasonable to expect the other strings to be louder. Try a combination of B string, and increased pickup height - though I've heard some argue that a pickup can cause a damping effect if too close to strings - i.e. its magnetic force on the string, being increased prevents the string from moving correctly / fully. I'm not sure just how much of an effect this will have... Also, though I've not tried one myself, there is a device called a "Fat Finger" sustainer. Anyone on here tried one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fat-Finger-Guitar-Chrome-Sustain-Headstock-Tool-099-2180-100-FFFSEG-/182147880099?hash=item2a68dc14a3:g:rzAAAOSwagdXRrsI
4. Quote; "The bass is also fitted with a kill switch, which is currently disconnected." Wow. Powerful laser! As others have said, that's a lot of money for a bass with such an awful finish.... ATM some lovely basses come up on here, and for good prices
5. Very nice indeed. Really impressive, convincing relicing, and not overdone too Cracking looking bass
6. Nice idea re the stand Delberthot What material have you used as the straps, to hold the amp head in place? And how are these straps fastened?
7. Bump. Open to offers, as I've seen something else I want.... If it doesn't go soon, I may well keep this head now
8. Just realised, I answered a thread titled "Oh the pain" .... and my name is Smith You have to be old enough to appreciate this
9.
Yes Marc that's how I felt about them. On the 1982 TOTPS that is currently on BBC4 they are on it. But singing as a boy band. No instruments so I never gave them a thought.....
Funny enough - I watched that same episode the other night, and thought the same thing! I was watching it when it went out live, back in 1980-something or other, and just saw a boy band, dancing & prancing around. Good song though....
10. Though they were never a fave band of mine, I think they sound quite distinctive, and have always been listenable at least. Looking back, I think they're probably a lot better than I thought they were "back in the day". Plus, I think they've stood the test of time fairly well. I'm sure I'd have enjoyed being there too. Glad you had a good night
11.
I use mine live all the time for the utterly preposterous reason of adjusting the volume...
Lol I always roll back my volume control at least a bit. As others have said, you can then turn up if needs be. I play mostly finger style, but I sometimes use a pick, depending on the band and the individual song (some songs just require a pick and it doesn't sound right otherwise) When using a pick, I usually roll back the neck pickup a touch. Using the volume control(s) and tone control, and varying the heaviness and style of playing just allows you to change the dynamics of the bassline. But I've met plenty of players who just play everything on max the whole time....
12. Someone on this forum was using 2 cajon bags to carry 2x One10's. Each bag had more space than the cab - so they had attached an amp head to one of the cabs (using some sort of velcro bands, I think?) and in the other cajon bag, they had space for a case for all their leads... Sounds like a neat idea to me
13. Ah, yes I know that feeling, My first DB / EUB was a Stagg. Those strings were very high tension. Have you changed them? Try something lower tension, like Innovation Honeys, or Silver Slaps, or Spirocore Weichs... Depends on what sound you're after, and what style you play, of course Also, somewhere on here there's a thread about a product called "Double Bass Finger Tape" There's a link to it for sale on ebay - mind you, a simple ebay search for it would suffice... I played with a callous once, and the finger tape worked wonders. Cheers now EDIT: You can honestly play DB with this tape on your fingers, and it doesn't come off, or leave sticky glue all over your strings In fact, I keep a roll in my gigbag. I was once playing a gig with bass guitar, and our guitarist had a nasty cut on his finger. So I gave him a piece of the finger tape, and it saved the day for him! He ordered his own roll the next day....
14. Firstly, happy birthday mrtcat, Secondly, glad you bought yourself a present to mark the big occasion Thirdly, well done on getting yourself what looks to be a great bass I've played a few Limelights, and every one has been a superb bass. When owners rave about these basses, it's well justified Lastly, sorry to tell you, it's all downhill from 40 - so just as well you bought a great bass to cheer yourself up
15. Cool, great colour too. Enjoy
16. That looks amazing, and great value for that sort of price GLWTS
17. I used to be relatively GAS free, until these came out
18.
It is my oxygen. It nourishes me and sustains me. It is a magic wand that can temporarily stave off depression, and heal pain like nothing else can. It releases the same kind of rush as love and sex, and feels every bit as magical. Time stops. Wounds heal. There is no rain, no pain, no storms, no sorrow, no outside world after the first five/ten minutes with the bass in my hands. I'm a scientist, in his lab until the wee small hours of the morning, experimenting and searching, lost in the process, knowing the answers I seek are in there somewhere. I'm a traveller whose destination is unknown, content to explore the roads and learn about the world. I am a pretentious cretin, over-poeticising my relationship with a lump of wood. It can be frustrating at times - but then, everything wonderful is the same. I love the bass. It has definitely changed my life for the better.
Great answer I too love playing bass. This is my second spell, and after a very long break - I'm so glad I came back to playing bass... The flip side is, as Conan points out, the downside can be playing in bands with other musicians. Mostly it's OK, I've found several bands & duos who are great, and I like to think I've weeded out the time-wasters... but there are always some people you get involved with where you wish you hadn't I just wish playing bass didn't make us rely on other musicians quite so much, sometimes
19. Don't reduce the price of this bass any further. Honestly, they are just too good to be sold off any cheaper. And LewisK1975, buy it! You won't regret it matey - the RW Jazz is the bass that made me love Fenders again Bump and GLWTS
20. Is that a squier classic vibe neck? If so, that makes it even more attractive. Squier CV's are brilliant. Nice looking bass you've put together there. GLWTS
21.
I'm loving La Bella 760N Black Nylon on my Rob Allen & Steinberger fretless basses so much that Iv'e just ordered a set for my fretless precision. I've also tried them on a fretted N.S Synapse which I prefer over the La Bella steel flats. I've tried Thomastiks & others but prefer La Bella overall
How do you find the tension on the LaBella Black Nylons Mr Bassman? Before trying the TI Flats, I used Rotosound Steve Harris Flats on my Fretless P. Nice sound, but quite high tension still
22. Never really been a Flats player - even though I also play DB For me, I used to find too much "drag" on the left hand, when using flats, and every set I tried seemed too high tension However, I'm a bit more used to the feel of them now, but I still prefer the lower tension Thomastik (Jazz) Flats. As others have pointed out, they are expensive, but if tension is an issue for you, these are very low tension compared to any others I've tried. I use them on my Fretless P bass
23.
Eeek My year of birth bass I play short scale I'm in Manchester The stars may be aligning!
.... and that's a good price for a Y.O.Birth bass too Go for it
24.
....... I always pick up the Wal by default, but i like having one around. Whenever I don't have a P bass in the stable it feels like something is missing
Yes, definitely. I was "off" Fenders in general, and P basses for such a long time. I had tried many other basses, brands, types, pickup arrangements, hardwear etc etc - but then I saw the light once more, and now wouldn't be without a P bass in the stable. As others say, they just sit right in the mix. A good one which sounds & feels great is very satisfying to play, and even just own.... For me too, having had basses with lots of tonal controls, and knobs & switches everywhere, I love the simplicity of the controls. It seems I always get the sound I want or expect from a P bass, whereas, with some other basses, I was wont to fiddle around with the controls. I own 3 P basses. A Squier Classic Vibe (now P/J'ed), a Roadworn (Also now P/J'ed) and a Fretless. I love them all. I don't actually need both the Squier CV and the RW - but I can't bear to part with either of them Also, you owned quite a few P's, but I do like the option of having the additional J pickup there too. Perhaps you need a P/J ?? If you haven't tried a Squier Classic Vibe - I'd really recommend trying one! They are cracking basses, and well worth more than the current second-hand value - so give one a go (and maybe get this one P/J'ed, so you're tempted to keep it)
25. Hi Adam, Re the crack near the bridge; How far does it extend? Any chance of some close-up pics of it from the front & back?
