  1. Concur, great price - each time I come back I’m surprised it’s still here.
  2. Saw this and thought the same. More info from the Ernie Ball website here. A “Ball Family Reserve” model and one of 106 worldwide. The £3.4k RRP is ambitious but even priced against a regular StingRay Special this is a killer deal. https://www.music-man.com/bfr/july-2021
  3. I fell for the Peter Hook on passive personally. Although if that was the sound with the tone at 40% it could get pretty wild when wide open!
  4. Thank you kindly! It was a really fun one to learn.
  5. Like that a lot. Yamaha stuff is always worth the hype in my experience.
  6. This is AMAZING. Such a fun listen and your playing is really tight.
  7. That’s a lovely thing. The body/neck contrast is great. I’ve never played a Ric but I imagine I’d have the same problem with the pickup cover.
  8. Another vote for “nothing to see here, move along” - if you enjoy playing it, then keep enjoying it.
  9. The only bass I’ve sold and re-bought a “version” of was a USA MM SUB. Traded the first one in against a Fender P/J that I’ve since sold. I bought the second SUB in the OG lockdown - I plan to keep it, but if circumstances demanded it would probably be the first, maybe second to go.
  10. I played through this same rig once and was blown away. I hope you enjoy it!
  11. If I need something in particular I won’t go out of my way to buy from a shop. If I happen to go into a shop even just for a look I will try and buy something (strings, picks etc) to show some support.
  12. I’m going to share an unpopular opinion in the context of the thread - you can’t beat what feels right in your hands (or in this case your daughter’s!) When I was starting out, I wanted a Jazz Bass. I was obsessed, and nothing else would do. Forget the fact all my favourite bands played P Basses - I didn’t like the look. My uncle took me bass shopping and had me try anything and everything - including the Fender Jazz I was so obsessed with. I left with only one bass left on my mind, and reader, it was not the Jazz Bass. It was a Yamaha RBX170. P/J pickups, a fatter-than-Jazz neck, a “modern” look, 24 frets and crucially, a price tag that was £100-£200 less than anything else I played that day. It was the bass that felt right. I appreciate that your payment set-up and the element of surprise means this approach might not work, BUT even if you don’t leave the shop there and then with that exact bass, getting more of a feel for what feels right and will inspire her to keep playing will make such a difference long term.
  13. The shape and size of the neck pocket will be the key. I had issues fitting a really nice Squier Jazz neck into a non-Squier Jazz body, to the point that I re-sold the neck as it was too good to risk ruining to get it to fit.
  14. These are FSR so get them while they’re hot. I always look at FSR stuff and decide I want one long after they leave the market (anyone with a Squier CV 70’s P in Surf Green/maple, you know where to find me 😆)
  15. Big fan of the colour. Almost iridescent.
  16. It’s a “wow” from me! You don’t see something like that every day. Congrats.
  17. The Roadworn Mike Dirnt I just bought fits a similar bill. Slimmer than a standard P at the nut, but somehow still chunky in every other dimension. It’s unlike anything else I’ve played before.
  18. I had a Squier Bass VI for a few years but could never quite figure out what to do with it. This caught my eye as being good value!
  19. Bought Keir’s Yamaha Sessioncake as a gift for a mate who just got back into playing. It was exactly as advertised, with all the original packaging and accessories. It was delivered in double quick time too. I would buy from Keir again without hesitation. Cheers Keir!
  20. The gold hardware is a nice upgrade, great work.
  21. Nice work on the Epiphone. At first glance it looked like one of the semi-recent Gibsons with the satin finish (yes, I admit, I skipped to the pictures first) I’m also loving the Micro CL. Super cool. Welcome to the party!
  22. Sold Ed my Fender Deluxe Active P Bass. He was in contact the whole way through, and kindly met me halfway for collection/drop-off. One of the good ones - you can deal with confidence, as I surely will again at some point. Enjoy the bass, Ed!
