I can imagine this cab being commissioned by the NHS as their new cheap solution to sorting out people with constipation / bowel issues. Just gather all the patients together in a room with about 1000 toilets and crank this baby up (issue the patients with ear defenders to avoid them developing permanent deafness as a side effect to treatment), you'd just need to find the Brown note and HEY PRESTO, no more constipation in Shoreham by Sea!

I'd prob recommend a Lakland 55-02 for a 5 string with active/passive control at a decent price, or a Warwick corvette 5 string but they don't come as PJ, but you shouldn't have any issue dialing in a P tone. I didn't know if a Warwick Streamer would have 5 strings and a PJ configuration.

Agree with all the above sentiments. In a covers band you could spend ages worrying about all sorts only to find no-one will really notice (unless your sound is way off the reservation). If you're determined to have a few different sounds in 1 night using 1 bass then i'd recommend the Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe. 6 saveable presets and sounds great and you can have absolute control over some vary varied sounds, you'd easily dial in, Reggae, Soul / Motown, Funk and Rock no sweat.

there's no issue with this. it's easy to do, you just need to choose your software, have the clips loaded, and then have you iPad's volume at the right level and Bob's your uncle. You can pre-record the tracks. There are also things called ambient / infinite pads where you can hit what note you want on your iPad and it plays the pad sound/chord on an infinite loop until you hit stop or hit another note. I'd personally recommend looking at MainStage 3 / Garageband / Logic / A basic copy of Ableton (not the full Suite version) and see what is most suited to your needs. You could even try out a simple thing of saving the sounds as MP3 / WAV files and playing them from a player like iTunes and you just play each track in sequence with a blank track saved in between each one so you don't accidentally move from one sound to another. You could also look at using the Behringer MIDI foot controller to trigger MIDI commands hands free if you're wanting to play tracks whilst you're still playing http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/FCB1010.aspx

+1 for both Warwick and Spector for heavy sound. The growl on my 5 string spectors is amazing! I also agree it's amazing the price Warwicks are going for at the moment. Was doing a set up lesson with my bass teachers and he was blown away by the quality of my German made Corvette. Interestingly the bass he was least interested in was my USA Fender Jazz, really great bass to play, and does the passive Jazz bass job brilliantly, but in his eyes the build quality on the Warwick was head an shoulders above it (and I do agree with him). P.S. the bass that most caught his eye was my ACG as he'd never seen one before and he thought it was amazing.

why are handles on cabs always in the wrong place?? if someone's not careful they're gonna smack themselves in the shin!!!

That looks like a whole lot of fun!! Go for it bootsy! I'm in the "Do it because it's fun and you'll learn a heap from doing it" camp. Think the cab looks great and will definitely be a major talking point at any gig, plus it's obvious your heart is really in this project and you should see it through. Having seen how sometimes threads like these in recent times can go a bit south, I just feel it's important to mention that when people like Bill Fitzmaurice or Alex Claber or anyone else at an "expert" level comes on to a thread like this and contradicts what you are doing, try to remember that even though some of the advice may sound a bit harsh or critical, they are giving professional advice for free that they don't have to give. It doesn't mean that they should be treated like Royalty and we should doff our caps to them, but they don't really have time to spend composing their posts to give it a non-offensive feel. We do need to remember they actually know and understand what they are talking about and giving that advice for free. I think it's good that they offer their honest advice as there is no point them coming on a thread and cheering you on as you spend a fair chunk of money, whilst they might chuckle to themselves thinking "this will never work". I think it's really good that they are offering their honest opinion, whilst their idea of what a cab should be might differ greatly from what you have imagined with this project. It's great that you are seeing this through and wish i lived close enough that I could come and hear it and feel what it's like as my internal organs all rupture at the same time! I really hope this hasn't come across in a patronising way, I just thought it was important to say in a friendly way.... God forbid this thread would go in the direction of the fabled "compression" thread of doom!

are you running through a Laptop style rig running a DAW? What is your purpose in converting to MIDI?

This comment seems to be what a lot of people say about Foderas when talking about them. They are all good but how can they be worth THAT much.... and then you try THE ONE and you must have it and it is definitely worth it. I completely love my ACG and can't see how anything could be that much better than it. I don't think i'll pick up a Fodera anytime soon or i'll wake up one morning with a very empty bank account starting at a bass guitar wondering how it is in my house!

+1 for the EQ option with added boost. this way you get extra options instead of just another compressor. over time the EQ will pay off.

play it for ages really badly, maybe experiment with a new technique of playing it back to front, and then when the sales assistant comes over hand it over to them saying "it's a bit crap, haven't you got any decent basses in like those Fender ones.... I hear that bass player from U2 has just designed a new one, that's got to be better than this?" Or spend ages playing with it making the EQ as awful as possible and detuning the strings.... Of course I'd be incredibly polite in a shop, but might poke a few funny comments at them about the price.... there's a thread about this bass somewhere on Basschat don't you know?

Thread from the past. Interestingly I now own a VMT Deluxe and think it is totally amazing both on bass and guitar. Would still love a B7K but in a non-buying phase so that'll just have to wait!! Never tried a caitlinbread SFT so no help there i'm afraid

the thing is, once your sound has been through the preamp, you can just put it through a DI Box that most in house engineers will have, or you can just buy your own. it doesn't HAVE to have a DI, although it is one less connection / thing to go wrong. The important thing is that you have control of your tone/sound that is being sent to the desk / amp.

think about where they are. New York, where i'm sure there are plenty of Wall Street types some of who will play bass. When mega bonuses paid out guess how many treat themselves to a trip to the Fodera workshops? $11K is peanuts in that city. Sure there will be some high end professionals who make mega bucks or get an endorsement deal, but i'd imagine most of those Foderas go to city types who want to show off their $30K Fodera (which was then being sold on the 2nd hand market 3 months later.... true story from a few months ago on here after someone posted one for sale 2nd hand on talkbass). There will also be high end musicians around the world on big bucks deals where they can afford to buy (or their record label buys them) a Fodera, and why not if it inspires you and you want to chuck money around? Will it do anything that a well set up £1-4K bass built by a good small luthier won't do? Nope, but it's up to them.

i would experiment with the positioning of the Providence pedal and the compression. see how it sounds with the providence 1st and last. see what happens with the compressor at the start and the end. you're not using an envelope filter so the normal reason to not compress 1st is if you're running into an envelope filter. some people will still compress at the end, but Japanaxe makes a good point about boosting the noise from the OD pedal (assuming it creates hum), especially if you are using a separate preamp pedal too. It will be interesting to see how the compressor effects the Octave pedal

Love my Lakland.... why not just give the 4 string a try?

use those new drones that amazon are experimenting with using for deliveries. it's not like it's a heavy and delicate valve head or anything. I reckon about 4 drones should do it!
