  1. He was about the only person I have ever seen play the fender V, it was an odd bass, same range as a 4 spread on 5 strings, E-C and 15 frets!
  2. Yes, that is one good thing you can say about them. Oh hang on, that is the only good thing you can say about them!
  3. Yep - all he had was the one jazz bass.
  4. Yep, I liked the subsequent, but although I came close, I couldn't justify getting something when I wouldn't have got to use it that much. TBH, at home I play the Piano and the Roland DS if I want other sounds. The piano connects to the Bloefeld, for other tasks. Now I have the argon, which is sort of a bit of a crossover with the blofeld., but although less versatile is very front panel 'accessible' (and has a seriously nice keyboard) Isn;'t that matrixbrute more expensive thought - or am I thinking of the polybrute
  5. Indeed - Just 2 Jazz basses, a Fender Bass V, a fender Bass VI and a couple of alembics.
  6. Same here, not attention at all. Then I joined a motown group a couple of years back!
  7. Oh agreed - there are quite a few synths I would have to go through before those two were my choices (although I was tempted by the subsequent) but I was just picking based on the brief! Hadn't noticed the Pro3, but sequential stuff was always my first love
  8. I had a gibson darkfire, the mother of the robotic tuners. It was fantastic. Ok, sometimes it took a couple of goes and the wiring was absolutely appaling, but if you fixed gibsons shocking QC, it was a great guitar, and it never had a problem tuning. Would have another one in a heartbeat but they have got quite expensive now.
  9. I don't think it makes you less of a player that just comes down to your playing, just sometimes it is a bit more hassle. I have been in groups where one of the other players takes no spares to anything and has generally unreliable equipment, so always having to borrow spare leads, straps etc. I have had big delays in gigs because of these, I don't think it looks very good. I have the spares so can lend them but if noone did, what would we have done. I have seen a lot of bands in pubs faffing around with leads and things that have broken. Mind you, I have also seen the same with Iron Maiden, Motorhead, etc! Obviously some luck plays into this, you could go through a whole career of playing and never have anything break.
  10. Actually not that much in this case. This is my motown group, last practice I brought my pedalboard (helix HX, Boss Sy1, etc) but didn't want to carry much so I was going to go straight to the amp but then thought about it and decided to bring the B1-4 as it fits in no space. The pedal board is for the other group. I just used some of the clearer patches, at the moment basically the default ones as I had too much other stuff to try out. But I flipped between the first patch and the motown patch, which tamed the EHB (which is a nordy, quite agressive, not so great for dock of the bay etc), and the jaco patch for part of feeling good. TBH, my main concern at the moment is the amp, it is only the second time I have used it and will be gigging it so I want to get some measure of what it does. For mono (whch is what I am doing almost all the time) I don't really hear much of a difference between them. For me, the 'put it in your bag, plug it in on batteries' almost zero setup cost of using it is absolutely perfect for practices. I don't find the depth of the effects are the same as the Helix HX at the moment, but I have only just started using it, and I have never heard it played through the same amp yet.
  11. Exactly like facebook marketplace in fact. I guess that is the price you pay for using a free service - doesn't get rid of people who are not serious. I remember the group before the last group was from there too. But my main group, I answered an add, got contacted back, went to watch them at a gig, introduced myself, went for a practice later that same week, enjoyed the practice, thought I would join them, contacted them back to say so and they said they thought I had already joined, and could I do a gig the following week. Was a very busy week. Still with them 4 years later.
  12. Nothing quite as frustrating as joinmyband, you will get people asking to do something different, you will get people who seem perfect who just don't bother contacting you again and you will get a load of hassle. But, my two current bands are through adverts in JMB, and the guitarist we have just got on one was also through JMB, so I wouldn't want to not have that resource, and it is worth the hassle.
  13. Had another practice last night, better than the first. Still seems odd, still haven't practiced with the band who I have a gig with in 3 weeks. However, the B-Stock ashdown ABM600 I bought in lockdown coupled with either the shuker or the Ibanez EHB1505 both of which I bought in lockdown, going through the B1-Four that I bought in lockdown sound absolutely glorious! Nice to try these things, and really looking forward to gigging them! Oh, also my wife was very happy with the XVive U4 wireless IEM that I bought in lockdown (well, arrived yesterday), although it almost didn' tmake the cut as it intefered with the wireless of the X18 mixer (which incidently, I have had for years!) until I changed channel.
  14. Maybe it is location but I am not sure I have ever conciously seen a SVT Classic on any stage at any gig I have been to.
  15. You did see the last group photo didn't you?
  16. I have been looking at all the reviews on and off for the Argon (and Cobalt) 8. They make it hard to choose. I went to PMT last week, I went in to test the argon 8 I knew they had. There was a sign saying 'please ask a member of staff before touching anything", so I tried to find staff, found a guy demonstrating roland stuff, seemed rude to ask him but I did anyway, he said it was ok. tried to play it, no sound, just loud EDM. black lead went off to a mixer, where 8 black leads were. Found a slider to turn up that gave sound, after a few minutes I realised nothing I did changed that sound and it was a moog just getting midi from the argon. Found the argon in the end. Tried to ask another member of staff as he was going past if I could mess with their mixer, got to 'can I ' and got 'yeh, sure'. Turned the argon up, but couldn't really hear it well over the EDM. Stayed 10 minutes, more staff than customers, but not one of them asked so I left. Made an offer on a £400 one on ebay for £370, but rejected, then noticed Andertons had 2 B_stock, one at £400 which had damage to the case and one that was £416 for 'damaged packaging'. Don't care about that so bought it on friday. Came today - this is what you lose by paying £416 instead of £521: As you can see, the box is a little worn. I guess I will have to live with that Everything inside the box was perfect though.
  17. Wouldn't really matter if they did - bass is a transient thing anyway, a few spikes of full power and then most of the time next to nothing. Not like keys where you can actually be providing a continuous signal.
  18. I think there is more rubbish quoted on this subject than any other in here! in total contrast to the number of "I blew my amp / speaker" threads.
  19. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Lubahn and https://ultimateclassicrock.com/doors-bass-players/
  20. The matriach is quite a bit bigger I would say - its another octave for a start. Don't know - what sort of thing do you want? I would pick the subsequent every day, but I like presets and cant be bothered wiring stuff up, did that in the past, don't need to now. If you want to spend a lot of time creating just the one sound, the matriach is probably the one you want.
  21. If you write it here at the time, we can retain it for you!
  22. We had ours, first time I got to try my new basses and my ABM600, so great to be playing stuff!
  23. Sometimes I have a time when I am playing along to something on youtube, then it suggests something else, so I play along to that, and just end up following it all down the rabbit hole.
  24. Same here - I listen to much wider selections of music than I ever did, its great.
  25. The sisters of mercy version is good
