  1. There has been a mod on the preamp. The original model (which I have), has a 3 band parametric EQ which gives you 6 controls - Bass / Treble / Q / Freq, volume, balance and a preamp bypass switch. Powered by 2 AA batteries it is a bit useless. Well worth a grand though. Later models have the same preamp which is the one from all the premium ones, which gives you Bass / mid / treble, volume, blend, frequency switch and bypass. Well worth a grand. Whatever version it is , its well worth a grand. Difference is - the new one is the 5005OL and the old one is the 5005E Ignore the colour variations - they are both the same
  2. I think I had exactly the same experience with the same guy trying to get a control for the SR1000 (from 2006). Got one from ebay in the end, having said that, even that has gone bad now, these parts are a bit rubbish, but unfortunately where else are you going to get a concentric dual 100k log and 20k lin pot?
  3. Yep, its the way it has always been for some reason.
  4. There were no chip designs or algorithms back in the OC2 day - its standard of the shelf components in a design that is widely shared. https://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s/oc2-octave.php you could make one yourself. As a result if someone makes a direct copy of that circuit, it *will* be closer to the original than whatever is in the OC5
  5. Not unusual as the primary octave dies faster than the harmonics.
  6. Seems a reasonable reason. 99.9% of the audience would have no clue there was a difference. And maybe he couldn't find an Ibanez Roadster or a Roland G88 to be authentic?
  7. Yeh, might do. Luckily it will be replaced - a new one will wing its way to me. I guess it's worth asking
  8. Everyone loves power one one one! Sounds like a good deal. I would get that if I hadn't recently got a new ABM600, loved my TC450
  9. You can see the inside of the tuner near where it connects. Absolutely no chance of it being fake. And yes, they are supposed to be good. I have never seen or heard of another one failing.
  10. The massive split all the way along the tuner.. err.. whats it called.. the bit you turn? shouldn't be there. Meaning it no longer functions and it is not possible to tune that string.
  11. I would agree, but for a music store (as Al also said) I don't think that the US is going to be that much of a market, compared to the other side of europe. Having said that, it overlooks the obvious that the largest market by probably an order of magnitude of the EUs products is the EU, and I assume that is also thommans biggest market. Effectively second hand trades in more common instruments has been shut down between the EU and UK, so it only really confirms new items. Thomman are pretty big and 5 months in they haven't introduced a scheme to collect vat, so I assume that means they don't really want to for some reason, rather than not beaing able to. They have obviously looked at their figures and decided it isn't worth it for whatever reason.. Also maybe now we are a new terrtory it means they aren't able to sell somethings here. I would have probably bought a ric from them if we had still been in a customs union.
  12. Thought 'that looks similar to the crafter', so got it out and it seems I put a big scratch on the front since the last time I used it (on thursday) - wonder how that happened
  13. So pretty well the same as a Beiber gig then?
  14. Glad this wasn't at a gig, went to tune the bass yesterday and it wouldn't tune up.
  15. I haven't noticed that (and tuned the 1505 yesterday), although I did notice that neither my 2605 or 5005 ever really went out of tune. So I guess the 1605 must have been more sensitive. Still, yesterday was a bad day for tuning!
  16. Same here. Well, and awfully anti-social as it is almost half past midnight.
  17. Thats odd, I notice no noise difference between any of my premiums (actually down to 1 now) and the EHB, unless I am near a computer or my valve amp.
  18. You are going to notice a huge neck change going from a SR300 to an NG3. Sounds to me just like something people say 'oh why don't you get an NG3' - its the sort of thing I would say when someone was looking at something cheap (well, not one of those!). Like if the guitarist was looking for a new guitar I would be saying something like 'oh why don't you get a private stock PRS - they look nice'. If you liked the SR300 but wanted to go up a bit in the range and get a 5, go for one of the prestiges - second hand you can get them at a good price. I exchanged my Dingwall combustion for my 1605 which has been my main bass since.
  19. Hardly - when was the last time he got anything in the charts huh?
  20. The mag600 has two speaker outputs so you can connect one to each cab
  21. Same here - thats why I can't be bothered carrying multiple basses to gigs, and I certainly don't have time to change between them. I also play the lightest as at least 3 of my 5 strings are my lighter than my 4 string jazz (the EHB, the Maruszczyk and the 1605). I never saw the complication of muting on a 5 string, any more than muting on a 4 string, but obviously we are different people and as I say 5 strings are my preferred thing. The only think I find 4 string better for is slap, and I don't really slap (because I neither like it or am any good at it - those two are probably related in one way or another). I just have the two 4 strings - a Jazz, because I often feel I should have one, and a SR1000, because it means something, so I wouldn't get rid of it. If I was playing my own music and had roadies to bring me basses whenever, maybe I would use them live, but im not, I am in a cover group where our choice of songs is 'fluid' so happy with one bass that does everything. But understand what you mean and what you want, and that is the great thing that we all have our own ways, so what works for you is good for you. Apart from the less strings, we are the same then
  22. Same as Al. I only play a 5 string, it's what comfortable. I keep trying with 4s as there are nice ones, but no, don't get on with it. Also in my group there are some songs I need a 5, and I don't want to swap basses. I tried 6 but I think I messed up a bit in that I just took it to the first gig after I got it, and messed up a bit, I think I would have to had got used to it first. Still want to give it another try though
  23. Don't use a 4 when one will do. Let's face it for most music you could get away with a single string. 2 at a push. You don't need 4 any more than you need 6, just what you are used to and what you want to use.
  24. If only. Having said that, now my wife's company has accepted the loss of all her European customers, it's only supplies that are the problem! on the plus side, as you say, if you want something under £135, it is generally good. I got some wireless sensors from AliExpress. They also collected vat and came slightly faster than my last order from Germany!
  25. Well, A# is hardly low for a B string, although if you have gone from E-G to.. what A# - D# the loading on the neck maybe very different. What sort of intonation issue do you have?
