2. Peavey millennium 3 band active bass. In trans black with a lovely maple book matched top. Lovely thin jazz like neck that has a factory vintage tinted varnish. String through or normal stringing bridge. Very good condition. Plays and sounds great. Has level frets and been properly setup with new strings. Fretboard oiled. The bass has been well looked after, though has been used so it's not perfect there are a couple of light marks on the surface on the back that won't show, might even t cut/polish out. there is a tiny 2mm dint in the front, again won't show and is almost invisible. Is in very good overall condition. And is clean! No dust or grime like I've seen basses sell with yuk!. £125 including delivery, fully insured. Which I think is a bargain! Bank transfer or PayPal you pay the fee. Trades considered I'm looking for an od/distortion pedal. Oh one thing the serial number rubbed off! Wasn't lacquered over. I bought this new and will come with original box and I still have receipt too. Pics too follow right now.
3.
so....I have found when i remove the copper strip from the bridge the buzzing disappears completeley! What the hells going on? Daft qusetion but is it safe to remove the copper strip completely?
Yes it's safe In fact probably more safe as then your strings are totally isolated.
4.
Oh yes if they are functional. Mullard EL34s seem to fetch good money, ditto Mullard pre amp valves. USA 6L6 GE also seem to fetch money. A quick look at the well known internet auction site is informative.
Had a look couldn't find mine, there Philips ( mullards) gt Britain however mine matched up to non online lettering print wise.
5. Does the ad not mean the bass lines might be only simple so a bass player night not be to keen. However a bored guitarist might fancy a go at a few simple lines?.
6. Bought a overwater tanglewood from Mark. The bass was as described and came well packaged. Seems a really great guy to deal with despite the dodgy avatar haha. I have no problem saying you can deal with Mark with confidence. Aidan
7. Ok great thanks for the advice. I shall look for another or use two caps to make up the value/voltage. I also removed the so called death cap. On another note are old valves worth anything? Even a few quid or should they be retained for future test purpose or binned?
8. Decided to re cap my amp myself as they need doing even though the amp works well, some are slightly bulging etc. I can't afford the prices I've been quoted at all. I have had a look at the caps (safely learned to drain them etc etc) and written down there values and what I want to replace them with. Can someone check my list and make sure im not doing something wrong. I wanted to replace close for like to like. 40 40uf 450v replacement 50 50uf 500v 2x 10uf 400v replacement 2x 10uf 500v 8uf 250v replacement 8uf 450v Now one is a 64uf 65v and I can't find something close what I can find is a 50uf 50v will this be ok?. Or should I chain a couple together to make a similar value as original?.
9. I like that, not sure why but it definitely has the look to me.
10.
Is he "out" already or was that a euphanism?
I started playing and all of a sudden the guy joins in, playing a didgeridoo. I was a bit surprised. Then when giving the amp the once over checking the valves in the back, while switched on. His young son blows down the didgeridoo behind me, I didn't half jump!. My girlfriend thought the whole thing was highly amusing.
11. Happened to me recently when buying an amp was handed a bass to try it with and the bass wasn't that dissimilar from my own, but I just couldn't play, it felt very wrong. I was concentrating on listen at the amp for odd noise, so that was part of it. Adding the was a didgeridoo being blown beside me. However the time before I bought another bass it was very different to what I normally play and I thought oh no but I played it well.
12. Forgot to put the link. Was on gumtree advertised as fender. That ad has since been removed.
13. Bass solos are best enjoyed when there tastefully done. Not over the top and not slapped (bass not player). There is certainly a place for them even though I'm very old school in thought of the roll of bass.
14. Advertised as a fender body nope it's Harley Benton. How do I know this, well I built it for my bro for his birthday and now his mate is selling it for him how ungrateful! Gumtree ad now deleted
15. Purchased a boss tu3 from Rob. Item was protected and came special delivery. Seems like a good guy to deal with. And kindly let me try the pedal before I paid. So many thanks Aidan
16. Those seem pretty cool. From reviews I've seen there supposed to be canny.
17.
There's one of those in a rehearsal room over in Tottenham, North London. Sounds great at lowish volumes, but can't cope with full band rehearsal volumes. Didn't realise it was valve until I saw this thread, I'd assumed it was an early solid state amp.
I think the official rating was 24w although some sites say 15w so definitely only a home practice/recording amp for bass. Might get a rehearsal, small gig using it with a guitar however.
18. White dimarzio dp 127. Don't know how they sound like, but there the coolest looking pickups. Always wanted a white p bass, maple neck, white scratch plate and a white pair of dimarzio dp127's
19. It's just a 70s traynor bass mate nothing too special, although I really love it. All original I think, tubes date to the 60s however so wonder if it's had nos at some point. Fantastic tone only a home practice, recording amp. I hear guitar players really rate them. 20. Well just so happens in looking for a pedal tuner. Pm'd
21. Yeah just return it. Be polite and say this bass had issues which you have proof of. Its a shame its turned out this way. If I was spending over 500 I would always look at a bass in person, looking at a bass in person also allows more negotiations, as well as being sure its what you want.
22. Well call me stupid but I opened it up. Followed correct procedure for draining the caps. Yeah all original not sure how old the valves are but there Philips gt Britain. The caps had no leakage however think will get them replaced for piece of mind. Fixed the no1 jack socket. Tried to retention the valve sockets, slightly better but the actual plastic while in good nik seems loose and I'm not 100% how to fix it. Turned on everything lit up no sound at all. Checked speaker connection I had been messing with and wobbled the tubes. Whatever I did fixed it, has less noise than before, sounds great. DONT WORRY!. Taking it to a tech asap within the next few days, will try resist playing through it.
23. The ctm 30 seems pretty cool. Is the mug all valve too?
24. Frightened myself the other night reading up on vintage tube electrics as I fancied doing a little maintenance on my new old amp. Tubes slightly lose so simple retention of the sockets. It's all original inside (I was told) tubes seem to be original too (1972), and was just thinking of all those big old caps in there that can potentially explode. I was again told it had been looked at by a tech and given the ok, who knows if that's actually true. Being honest due to the lose tubes I'm thinking it hasn't. Especially as one of the inputs needs looking at an easy fix for anyone. It does work fine but I'm thinking is this thing safe! And I'm second guessing my mortality every time I switch it on haha. I am going to send it too a tech for piece of mind, but that will be at least a month away. What's the likelihood of this thing going bang?
