1. What's annoying i would think is tone is relatively easy to change. I like a certain tone but often change it depending on song. So why do people just stick to one tone.
2. Done it myself and tripped over another cable too after, this was during a recording that was still rolling. Had a clip of it on here at one time.
3.
This... At best, replace with one with the same voltage handling and capacitance values in case the cap that blew was simply defective. If it blows again you know you have an issue somewhere in the circuit prior to it that you'll need to have investigated.
Yes this is also very true and was going to mention this in my previous post. Putting in a bigger cap could cause issue else where! It's a gamble.
4. Fender rumble 100 v3. A few weeks old only been used in the house and is in brand new condition. Comes with the fender footswitch which cost me an extra £25. Also comes with its proper box with all instructions etc. An excellent amp with a very useable overdrive too. A decent full 100w too so it's not lacking in volume, I was allowed by my gf to turn it up once lol and I didn't even get half way before she stopped the fun so it's never even been pushed. Very light weight too. Looking for £180 NOW SOLD (UK only I will also post to Ireland ask for a price). Which I think is a bargain as the amp is brand new and with the fender foot switch. I have a feedback thread on here. 5. Bought a very cheap te combo a 100 at the guys house seemed ok. But now when I switch it on it has a little noise a little static and when I turn it off it doesn't half go pop! Not sure if it's the amp or speaker doing it!. Also when I turn it off it takes ages and I mean ages to turn off like its holding power. I've taken the head out. And can see no issues caps all look fine and it seems visually in good nik. So what could this pop and holding power issue be? I've educated myself on old valve amps but don't really know that much about newer amps.
6. Yeah you can over spec a cap. You could try using one of higher voltage rating but a similar capacitance rating. Or even try one of higher both values. This might work.
7. Played an Sr 300 was not that impressed by the electrics and the neck tho slim felt a bit odd, though they seem well built etc. I think they are priced about right. Sr 500 much better in the electrics shame about how the body's get marked. Above that they really come into there own would love a higher end Sr
8. I've always thought of it like this having tried guitar in the past. The very nature of a guitar can (not always) hide a lot of mistakes, due to harmonics etc. Especially as guitars often don't go for a fully clean sound. Where as bass generally playing a single note, on one string will require more attention and accuracy. Especially if going for a relative clean tone. The strings being larger and more difficult to tame, mute etc. You can get away with mistakes on bass I've found using (masking) a lot of effects. I've always liked the saying Guitars hard to pick up easy to master Bass easy to pick up hard to master It's a very general saying but it's true guitar you put a lot of effort into just mastering the chords but once mastered you can sound really good. (I'm not saying guitar isn't hard to master, but picking it up initially is way harder, but after mastering a few chords you can sound great) Bass you could possibly be playing very simple stuff in a band very early. After the easy stuff the learning curve goes up very sharp. You will not sound amazing for a long time, again not saying you can't sound good but from good to amazing on bass is a bigger leap than guitar imo. Oh this doesn't apply to those little wonder kids on YouTube who are abnormal haha.
9.
I think this is perhaps at th base of the issue. The fellow is a terrible guitar player (I mean aweful, knows no theory and cannot string a melody to save his life) and he uses scooped and over-saturated sounds to mask his bad playing. I guess its driving me crazy since how terrible he sounds is going somewhat un-noticed at practice because his tone is so aweful that it cannot be heard properly. I have a video of him doing a 'solo' toward the end of our last set and I just want to die of embaressment to be honest. He even tries to do some speed tapping...out of key and time...oh help me. I guess I need to get him to get a tone that everyone can hear so we can be more honest about how terrible he sounds. And either work with him to get better (happy to do that provided he puts in the time and effort on his part) or...
Can we see the vid of him playing? Please
10.
Anyone remember the one with the guy from Indonesia who got ripped off by someone from the UK, we had a whip round for him and then he went off in a huff because someone questioned his integrity?
I want to know the full story please. Ashdown b social thread sticks in my mind.
11. Have you mentioned this to the other members?
12. My lass has one of these (in black) and it's pretty cool, we put on a set of la bella hofner strings and it really does have that hofner sound. Great for Beatles or even Motown etc etc. And with roundwounds and high gain, high volume the thing screamed (in a good way).
13.
The Rumble I had was 100 watt but the older version (4 years ago) not the new one V3, IMO it had no low end, cant comment on the new ones hopefully they have improved but as most people will tell you try out different amps til you find the one you like.
The new rumbles are definitely improved. Although recently heard an older rumble 350 head with a mark bass 2x10 and yes it was a small gig but the bass was thunderous. Sound is very subjective.
14. I have a new fender rumble 100v3 So so light but well built and the sound is very good and the overdrive is actually very useable. Fender really did put a lot of effort into the design of these. The 100 is a full 100 watts and has a decent amount of volume. And could be used for small gigs it's certainly loud enough for any jam sessions. I've tried the bigger 500 version and it was awesome if you ask me The new rumbles blow much more expensive combos out the water all things considered. They also look great.
15.
Yes, slot-loaded to help midrange dispersion. I think it's also acting as a bandpass cab, with the rear chamber coupled to the horizontal slot port and the front chamber coupled to the vertical slot, and the woofer in between those two chambers. I used one on a gig about 10 years ago - it wasn't that bad!
Interesting. And cool. May I ask how exactly does it help with dispersion?
16. I've seen a fair amount of these Trace Elliot combos for sale with instead of the speaker open they are behind a slotted front. What's the deal and theory behind having the speaker arrangement like this?.
17. A slight word of caution with this method, use softer wood blocks top and bottom to avoid marking the bass. And never put the top blocks against the frets as the side ways force can disturb them, so in between the frets or spread the load on top over a few frets, same with the nut as in the illustration you can actually tear off a nut like that as the force is sometimes high depending of course how much you put in some necks need more than others. You can do a similar reverse method to bow a neck if required too, needs caution though!
18.
I don't have the message any more, but I've had a discussion with him. Months, if not years, ago. At that point he said that he was looking for offers in about the £850 region. I didn't ask him how much he'd spent on it. Now he says that he wants about £1800. I think he's just making numbers up. if he actually thinks it's worth £1800 or even £850, it's going to be on ebay forever. I'd guess that he's using free listing days to list it.
Haha it's went up in value as it's an antique now durrrr! Lol. I'm not even sure if his string prices are right seems very high after looking on the site he claims he got the strings from.
19. I entered a reasonable convo with him. His reply seems fairly sensible. "The bass was a curiosity that I bought for £2500 about 8 years and as it was in need of work. I replaced the frets, pickups and hardware. The bridge was shot and so, I replaced it with monorail saddles and a steel bar which holds intonation and sustain perfectly. The strings are from Octave4Plus and were £500 for the set. Obviously, I can't recoup the price but, I would be looking for £1800 or thereabouts. It comes with a heavy leather strap and a hard case." So now we know a little more on it anyhow. I think it needs to go to the infamous mr cleartone of eBay and have it converted to a ten string for sausage fingers haha, well at least it would be a bit more playable having the strings on the fretboard. Still not worth 1800 I was hoping he would say a few hundred and for a laugh I would have bought it and donated it to the bc members as a "curiosity".
20.
Sums it up perfectly. I think if we did buy it, it would be a shame to just burn it. We'd get way more mileage out if it if we were to send it around and post videos of our attempts to actually play the damn thing.
I want to try actually just tuning the thing lol.
21. I see it like this, the guy had a lot of natural talent in those hands of his, he really did have tone in his fingers, the way he hit the harmonics with consistency and strength. I also liked his composition too. Is he really all that? YES! Very natural gifted in the hands, did what no one really successfully did before, talented in composition. Is he for everyone? NO
22. Would be cool to find out more about the maker. Hopefully someone will chime in
23.
I'm wondering how much he paid for it? either he bought it for peanuts and wants to make a huge profit or he actually paid many hundreds for it and is now trying not to lose all his money, I think it's worth 150 quid tops and that's mainly for comedy value, unless he finds some poor sucker that's taken in by his sales banter then he's stuck with it forever. if we do end clubbing together to this then I'm in for £20 provided that it ends up in flames (with a youtube video for proof) it would be worth it to never see it again Matt
I would also put in £20 quid too. We should bass relay it between buyers then do something amusing too it. Spray paint it gold and give it as a yearly basschat trophy for some daft reason. Or get together burn It pagan style.
24.
Yes, I agree , if we all chip in, say 10p each, that should buy it.....
Might have to be tad more than that I would think. Obviously your pricing for this item is correct though lol.
25. Hi still think we (basschat) should club together and buy the thing pass it round laugh etc etc. I might even do some luthiery on it haha. Each by member who bought it should add something to it. As someone said before make it a weird trophy
