How's your maths? Looks like there is some link with dyscalculia rather than dyslexia with trouble learning music theory. (only from a quick search, no real research on my part).
I have this issue. I can learn all sorts and am very good at science until maths come in. Same with music theory makes zero sense non! Like my brain won't process it, I get the basics but it just doesn't add up. I know this over simplifies it but music, all music is just notes put in a pretty pattern.

Awesome dha vt1 bass valve overdrive a bit like the standard model but has 3 colour options not just 2 and has a bright switch which also makes it slightly more useful for guitar if you wish. My fav distortion but going to upgrade too a two channel one with eq. Can do subtle and can be very aggressive almost fuzz like and everything in-between. Always has a nicer tube warmth. Has a nice bit of compression from the tube if using max colour. These are highly rated. Asking what I paid a few weeks ago. Now Sold £40 collected or add £15 for next day special delivery which I prefer to use. £8 pounds for slower standard delivery. Comes with power supply. No box, will be well packaged.
Seriously nice looking bass What is the nut width & depth like? Is it the more modern C type shape?
Like a very sweet jazz bass. So typical jazz width and it's very comfortable. I'm guessing it's the modern shape however there not much depth to it. Not like some fat neck C's. I hate using these words but it has a fast neck. Nice you can adjust string spacing too with the threaded saddles. So if your used to a wider neck it can compensate somewhat. Or you can have the strings closer. If I helps anyone here is the rear of the neck, like I say its a nice slim neck up and down. Flame has cane out in the pics too

I've seen speaker thrown in a river fished out and fine! (Long story) I've also heard stories of various speakers dropped in water and once dry were fine. As said clean the cab and insulation, with a hose or in the shower. Let it dry don't force the drying. Cab should be perfectly fine, you might be unlucky if it warps etc but worth a go. Let the speakers dry out. Any gunk might not of got to the voice coils as it would be filtered by the cone and spider. Put them back in the cab, maybe try the 9v battery test before hand to see if they move if so good. Then try them at low volume if they work great, play them for a while low volume maybe raise volume over a long period of time. If any crossovers etc make sure there dry. Good luck Let us know what happens

The Next Generation Of Players To Inspire.....?
Twincam replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I would say band music is still very popular, just there more genres of music now. Just like most hobbies today there's more to do in life now so everything is less popular but certainly band music is still popular. The thing is bass players have always been at the back so there's less stand outs compared to the more popular guitar. There's also more guitar players for various reasons. I was also thinking music is way more accessible these days the next generation are always close to music and don't actually need to do any digging as such. -
My simple theory is that string energy decays through varies pathways (this is a fact) one of them is the transmission of energy through whatever it's attached too, strings vibrating the body(also true). This can be felt on any stringed instrument. So clearly the various properties of the medium (wood normally) are going to effect energy decay of the strings, how long they vibrate for and maybe other changes too. So in my view wood type and shape will impart a subtle change in tone. Some may here it some won't that's the nature of ears and brain, a computer would be able to show it on a graph though. Electrics effected much less than acoustic instruments of course. Either way it's a subtle change. I bet polystyrene, wood and concrete will all sound different to a human ear so why not different woods just in a smaller way. But these little effects soon all add up to big changes in tone. So every little does help. As for the op's problem. You could try using ultra sound on the body or playing certain frequencies from a normal speaker at it for a long duration and at very loud volume, with the speaker on the body or maybe even hitting the wood in a hidden cavity like the bottom of the pickup cavity with a wooden dowl and mallet anywhere that won't cause damage. To somehow structurally change the properties lol. This is of course semi serious answer lol..

I wouldn't boil coated strings. Or strings with any plastic due too how much tension will be on it could make reliability a issue. Boiling strings does work it varies. I find rounds last forever with me anyhow and I hate bright strings so now only use flats. If you like fresh strings, The strings direct own brand are cheap and rumour has it made by rotosound when I used rounds I found them decent enough.

Bump and getting a slight price drop now £425 POSTED (it will cost me £35 posted and insured). Alternatively your welcome to come around and try before you buy, in that case I will take £395. Great bass had it out last night and nearly withdrawn. Pics don't do it justice. Seen there is a thing for road worn mim basses lately, this is cheaper and just as good a bass. P and Jazz tones best of both worlds.

No affiliation with the company. This is twice now I've had a dodgy string in a pack (different brands) and twice now when I've contacted strings direct that they were kind enough to send a new string or a whole new set. And when I've emailed for whatever reason they have always been prompt and polite. There postage has always been prompt too. There not the cheapest but I do trust them. So big shout out to them.

Ok I will go for the focusrite Itrack studio pack as it seems like a good deal. A few questions. Is it possible to mic a cab ok with this? Would the mic in the pack be ok for bass if I want to mic a cab? Again doesn't have to be great just useable, If not I will buy another mic. What is the most simple recording software compatible with this? Thanks
-
Hi in the past ive had others record me, and for a very quick recording I've even just used an iPhone and garage band in front of the amp, with surprisingly ok results for a phone in front of an amp that is. I want to move on and get better recordings myself. Nothing special just useable. I don't have a pc or Mac but I do have an ipad, I do want to mic up a cab but also go direct if I chose or do 2 instruments at the same time or instrument and vocals at the same time. So I'm thinking use the ipad, one of those mic/instrument pre amp boxes, and a mic for bass I won't need a vocal mic as can get use of one. After this thought I'm lost on which things to buy and what software to use I'm a complete beginner at software so the easier the better. Any help much appreciated, again simple and cheap please. Thanks

I had one, sold it on here. I couldn't get what I wanted from it this was early in my learning to play though so perhaps now I could get useful sounds from it. I did do the neighbours heads in with it in my old house haha! Insert funny synth noise....

Ok cool I shall look into the suggestions so far.

CIJ Jaguar/Block markers/seafoam/surf green slash slash
Twincam replied to stubass's topic in Bass Guitars
You would adapt given the practice. Or like a board with no markers use the side dots for quick reference. I can switch to blocks, dots or no markers just takes a few days practice to start to get confident then after a couple of weeks the muscle memory takes over. My preferred is maple board black dots I think they stand out a bit better too me. -
Fender Musicmaster bass pot replacement/repair.
Twincam replied to mr.noisy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well if you are happy to wield the soldering iron, take some close up pics first, which will help massively if you forget what cable goes where. Check out which pot you need, there will be a set of numbers on it as identity. Order yourself a replacement pot, cts are great and not much dosh. Fire up the soldering iron. If you are not concerned about keeping all the rest original, you could get a drop in, complete new wiring loom and controls from our very own Kiogon, no soldering required.
Yes indeed. I would add to this if this will be used for gigging maybe it's a good idea for reliability sake to take out the electrics and jack and keep them with the bass and replace the whole loom say get kiogon to make one up as suggested. Again this will ensure reliability. And you still have the original loom. Oh and before that try some contact cleaner sounds like the pot is dead but you never know I've had pots work again after being cleaned. -

Looking for a fairly cheap tremolo pedal to have a mess about with. I have zero idea which ones work nicer with bass. Doesn't have to be anything special just useable. Suggestions please
You're meant to compare the harmonic with the note fretted at the 12th fret, not the open string.
Yeah hit the open, then harmonic and the the 12th fret. They should all be the same. If not then adjust, then retune the open after each adjustment then retest harmonic and 12th fret. Oddly though many used bass guitars I've bought have not been intonated and often they are from gigging musicians. What's that all about. Saying that man basses can't get perfect intonation (looking at you hofner, literally shaking my head at a hofner right now).
