Love that tune!

Been reading the book British rock guitar which is an updated version of 17 watts by mo foster. It's basically a collection of often very funny stories by famous names, talking about there first guitars, first amps, experiments etc etc. It's a really good read! What got my attention is the fact that it's so much easier to get equipment that actually works, even the cheap gear. And we have internet so learning and music in general is so accessible. It's so much easier in every way. We are indeed lucky. However why I'm I yearning that it was still a bit like that. Even when I was fairly young in the 90s it was still easier than the 50s, 60s and so on. Although I am still relatively new to playing it would of been much easier when I was young to do so. So I never got to really experience the "struggle" of previous decades. The experimentation of it all seems really exciting. Even the crap instruments and struggling to get even the latest record has a certain fun element. I can't help thinking in a way lacking all that now has lost us something, some magic in it all.

weird lack of sound issue,is it pickups, amp or electrics?
Twincam replied to markdavid's topic in Repairs and Technical
Double check the amp at yours with another bass. And take the amp around someone's house and see if it works ok there. If so it's definitely the socket. Have you tried plugging it into another socket at your flat? I'm assuming the bass is the passive version and not the active version with the battery in. -
To be honest I hate the fact it's a copied design most basses out there look the bloody same because of it. And I dislike all these pseudo "custom" basses that look pretty much like a p or jazz apart from the headstock. Try coming up with something original eh! It's fair enough pickup placement and other essential hardware bits, but having the near enough the same body shape, the same pick guard and control plate etc is so boring. The only basses that should resemble a p bass or jazz is a Fender or Squire.

Advice on changing from Markbass to TC Electronic...
Twincam replied to lastanthem88's topic in Amps and Cabs
Just be careful if, like me, you have big fat fingers! I found it very frustrating to use the GK MB800 (big brother to the 500) as the controls are very close together and easily knocked while trying to adjust an adjacent one. In the end it got so annoying I sold it, although I quite liked the tone from the amp through my Barefaced cab...
That guy on eBay could remove some controls for the sausage fingered guys hahaha -
There's only one way to find out FIGHT!. The loudest amp I've owned was a 100W all-valve, and it wasn't ever possible to have that running at full whack - it was just stupid loud and that was in a loud rock band with a shed-building drummer. It was also the best-sounding amp I've ever owned too, incidentally. So you'd think a good 50W all-valve would be more than sufficient. The big pain of gigging is mostly (imho) due to the size and weight of your cab(s) - amps aren't quite so critical, unless you're hauling an Ampeg SVT-CL or similar, which run to 35kg and will burst your scrotum if you're over 50. Remember my current band are not rock and not loud - I can't get my Rumble 500 Combo quiet enough (running at 350W max without an extension cab).
I edited your post for amusement. I can see what you mean. But on anecdotal evidence and there's years of it a b15 isn't a gigging amp for anything other than smaller gigs etc, where again there's a lot of evidence to say the my combo is. I dunno it just doesn't seem or sound right, I'm open to learning more on this. And can't you set a volume on your amp then use your basses volume, that's what I've had to do when practicing at home. I've had a few amps that are very unruly.
I'm wondering if the new Ampeg 50W valve amp would be giggable. With a lightweight cab, obviously.
With pa help yes, on its own I would be very sceptical, maybe with a large cab and small or quieter gigs. I'm still not believing the b15 vs markbass results it's one of those things I need to see and hear.
Well this may not be the most scientific experiment in the world, but it's the best I have. I A / B volume tested the two amps with a decibel monitor placed about 20 foot away, 30 watts of Ampeg and the left, 300 watts of Mark bass on the right...(the Ampeg certainly wins out on sexiness!!) The Mark bass got to 94 / 95 decibels at about three quarters volume, it was sounding stressed and maxed out and I certainly wasn't going to take it any higher, and it didn't really get much louder after 12 o clock, and the quality of the sound was certainly degenerating. The Ampeg was quite happy being maxed out and sounded great from 1 through to 10, and that maxed out at 93 / 94 decibels, which I think is about 10% less volume that the Mark bass. As I said, not the most scientific test in the world, but tells a story, I've not gigged it yet, that comes next Saturday in a function room at a pub which will be a test as our drummer is not the quietest..... Oh, and my favourite channel,on the Ampeg is the 1964 channel which is only 25 watt......🤔 When I bought it off Beadster he said it was surprisingly loud, and he was right, gets me thinking about those watts though!,,
Interesting. Well that's put me right off getting any markbass gear!
Guys, go on to eBay USA and check out the hysteria over there for any guitar part that can (allegedly) be traced to Fullerton, no matter what condition or provenance. This guy's still an amateur
Very true. I wonder if ever the sellers search and find these threads. Would be amusing to us at least.
Depends on many different variables including cab and driver efficiency, number of cabs and drivers, etc. The loudest amp I've ever used was a 1974 100W valve job through two BFM J12 cabs loaded with Kappalites.
True but I'm not seeing a 30w valve amp and the associated Ampeg 15" and cab coming anywhere near the 300w markbass at 8ohm and it's not as if the mb stuff is overrated for watts even. People do gigs with the mb cmd121p combo alone and with its lm3 head can also do 500w with an extra cab. Not many people have been know to do a gig with a b15 although I'm sure some can get away with it they are not known as power houses.
Technology obviously changes, and I guess since 2008 there have been a few break throughs regarding getting maximum heft! However all my thoughts about watts and volume have been soundly turned on their head by my resent acquisition of beadsters Ampeg heritage b15, with a hefty 30 watts through a single 15 inch speaker, this baby is loud, and matches my 300 watt Mark bass CMD121p for volume, and kicks it's ass for heft! I'm yet to gig with it, but that will be done next Saturday night, but I'm expecting great things, so the answer to the initial post, is ......... Don't be fooled by watts.......!
Not saying your lying having never tried either amp but surely 30w valve would get blown away by the markbass???. I've had a good low watt all valve amp albeit about 22w through a fifteen and in my view it was maybe the equivalent of a 50 to 75w solid state.
Here we go, then; not the baritone, but my Verithin trying out a newly-received EHX 'The Clone Theory' pedal (Thanks, Ratman...)... BC Noodle April 2016 ...
I like that a lot. Reminds me of one or two songs but I can't think what for the life of me. Thought it had a certain sound and a bit Lo Fi which maybe in a sentimental way reminds me of listening to an old lp. Unlike camdenrob's thoughts, I thought it was a bit more deep, serious and mellow rather than sunny. Funny the way we each see things.
More racquet from me... https://soundcloud.com/leonard-smalls/miso
Interesting. Sounds very rear pickup jazz (I know it's not). Think I echo some of the thoughts of CamdenRob.
well, i decided to record and upload what i had in mind. (its here) I pressed record on my DAW, pressed record on my looper (which started the hihat sound i use for a metronome), recorded the loop, and set it to repeat, then changed some pedal settings and started playing over the top. The only edits i made in post where to cut out the silence at the start, and cut the tails down at the end so it was under 1min. No edits done to any time i was playing a note. I'll enter it if people are okay with that, but don't want to ruin this for others so am happy to withdraw it if popular opinion deams so.
That is in my view definitely a layered composition and not a noodle. Not that I dislike it though, I just feel it's not the definition of what the noodle bar is all about.
I wonder if this question was asked today, would the same answers apply? I suspect the answers would be for more power / volume.
I think the average seemed to be 300-350 quoted in original thread. I can say for sure it would be 500w now lol. However I guess that's 500w class d power or 250w in old ss power or 100w in valve power lol!

Indeed with the reverse wiring but ain't they actually reversed anyhow on jazz pickups so when you have them both fully on they have a small amount of hum reduction???
Or they realise that the world only has room for one cross-dressing Korean slap-meister.
It wouldn't be so bad but why did he/she play slap!

I wonder about the members that post only a few times then do one. I guess they think either this place is sh*t I'm outer here or they give up bass right?

Ashdown blue line 10" Perfect working order, zero issues. I've put some neo's in I had. So surplus. These are 16 ohm and 250w each. Spraying nitro over poly, will it work?
Twincam replied to mr.noisy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Didn't Fender and others actually use a non nitro base anyhow? I think you will be ok spraying over it. -
I think the carlsbro amps were just so bland that they got a bad rep. It had one and if it had a better cab it might not of been so bad. But in combo form it was boomy and no matter what I did with the eq I couldn't make it sound right. In its defence while being a bit rubbish and not having the best tone it wasn't the worst thing I've heard. I once opened it up was so simple inside but was fairly well put together and used nearly all British parts and the transistors were USA made. Does that make it a boutique amp or future classic!?
Like the riff style bit at the start... You wander off for a bit in true noodle fashion in the middle, then bring everything back together again for a few bars, before your rockstar twiddle at the end... I think this is your best one to date
Haha interesting. My lass was asking if it was one of my little noodles, said she "liked it" and my reply of course was "what do you mean little!?". Going to have a good listen to the other noodles in a bit I actually really look forward to what people do its just so easy to listen to 60 seconds of just bass for me.
