  1. If he's not stating that there deco instruments then that is wrong! Nothing wrong with getting a deco instrument in working order and selling it, if stating the fact. But keeping it hidden that the instrument had been marked as not suitable for playing then butchering it even more and whacking the price up is a disgrace.
  2. I fancy getting an all valve amp (Just the head) for home bassing and will plug it into a bass cab. I know of course there's bass amps suitable for this, however they all tend to be a bit on the expensive side. Every time I see a used one that is suitable, it's miles away! Wish I never sold my 15w wem that was a cracking home amp (essentially also a guitar amp). So thought might try a cheap guitar one. Does anyone know of ones suitable for bass, only has to do home playing volumes, needs to stay clean at that volume though.
  3. No joke my gf spotted your name on here a few days ago and thought it was rather amusing. I too agreed. Lol.
  4. I too struggle with the mm g string. Although actually it made my technique better. I think higher action can sound better, but it depends on the bass and player. But certainly it can improve it, even if no fret buzz was presemt before. Some people don't believe that though. I think it's because the player ever so slightly plays harder and the strings vibrate in a larger arc allowimg the pickup to really capture the movement. It could also be that sometimes moving the strings away from the pu have a more pleasing effect.
  5. Most factory setup specs are on the slightly higher side of what's achievable with level frets. I recently also looked at the Ernie ball site. I will be pragmatic and say it's I think its to cater to every type of player. Rather than get around poor fret work etc. There was an old 1960s (i believe) advert, for a bass guitar posted on here some time ago, where the manufacture guaranteed 3mm action Lol. 3mm is a huge gap looking at the E string, it's amazing to think a more modern 2.3 - 2mm e string height looks so different.
  6. Love listening to isolated bass. 1. Because you really get to hear the intricacies of the player. 2. You get a sense of how tones etc then work in a mix. 3. Makes me feel better about my bass playing, as plenty of great players still sounded a bit rough solo and made plenty of string/fret noise, overtones etc. But sound fantastic in the mix.
  7. He may not be using them in the vid. However Eb cobalt flats don't sound like traditional flats anyhow And have more a roundwound tone.
  8. Have you checked all screws are tight? And that any grills or coverings are secure. Can also gently test any main drivers to check for rubbing just in case. If you have a multimeter you can check the tweeter coil. You could wire a 1.5v aa battery to the tweeter and listen for a click. But sounds like there is not much more you can do other than a visual inspection of it and any crossover of course.
  9. I'm liking that. Curious to what the single control does exactly. Volume?, tone? I assume its active being a mm.
  10. Which way do you say it? Is there a more common way we say it in Britain? I noticed while doing a search online putting in either brings up different product results. Which leads me to my next question. Pick or Plectrum?..... Of course if you answer anything other than fingers then your not a "real" bass player 😜.
  11. Well I hope it sounds as good as it looks. Fantastic that is! I empathise with your lack if patience haha.
  12. Very nice colour choice indeed. That Decal looks fantastic! I know you mentioned the finish, it probably wouldn't take too much work to put a nicer final finish on that headstock. Although you've already made what was a fairly pedestrian looking bass, look fantastic!
  13. I would actually love it if he started knocking out better thought out modifications. And using decent parts.
  14. Well how do you know that's not been tried? Because i assure you it has. I do believe I've even offered him some tips/help for "improving" his work. I myself don't hate the guy. And at times I've felt the mockery is too much. But it's hard to get passed the facts of bad work, the misrepresentation, the extortionate prices. And making a mockery of people who can actually do honest proper work.
  15. That's actually his best video. And it might be wrong but for brief periods thought some of that was ok or interesting or something.
  16. The big issue I have is in my opinion he is actually conning people who may not know better. And possibly some that should. I don't mind the tinkering, bodging, etc. And if he sells them even thats ok. But its the passing them off as great works and fantastically playing instruments that is wrong. And to pass himself off as some sort of instrument improver, actually insults anyone who actually works on instruments. Then he sells these abominations for extortionate prices. Promising these are great instruments. If he was charging say £10 - £50 quid which is actually what his creations are worth then ok. I mean he is very probably putting beginners off playing, when the receive the rubbish. Especially if they think this is a good instrument, because a "master improver" with 100% feedback put it together, but it's playing bad or sounds bad, so the fault must be me. He has been at it for ages why hasn't his skills improved, why can't he cut a nut properly still?
  17. That Cocobolo top looks fantastic! Body shape looks great, has nice lines and not over the top.
  18. Double p split pickups look like they mean business!
  19. Cheers for the replies. I shall give them a try.
  20. I prefer the sound of rounds. However probably due to poor technique and rough finger tips I generate a lot of string noise. I just sound better with flats. My favs being the fender 9050's there brighter than many other flats and half ground rounds (tongue twister there) and they cover a lot of genre's. But still I would like a more roundwound tone. So the cobalt flats seem to promise that and have good reviews etc. But just before I buy them does anyone have any thoughts on them or has used both sets in question and can compare the two? There expensive and I'm hesitant. They would be a little treat for myself.
  21. Ha I knew someone would better it. I thought someone might of fixed it with "Drumming" in place of pasting. Yours is far more sophisticated. I had to look up the reference but don't tell anyone.
  22. Possibly stupid question. Does arrange own courier mean that the seller is always willing to pack the instrument. I'm not missing or assuming something am I? Theres no packing courier service I've been unaware off.

I think all this started when it became known that certain couriers (Parcelfarce) etc, did not cover musical instruments on the insurance.

If people wanted to buy something, then the seller would pack it all up and then its up to the buyer to arrange his own courier.

If it goes missing, the seller doesnt have to prove a thing.

I dont recall "Arrange Own Courier" ads before this revelation.

I don't get this...don't do half a job...if you're going to pack an item you might just as well spend 10 minutes booking a courier online. Let people think that you actual care about the item and your reputation on this forum.

I've had items go "missing" and even with proof of delivery, the evidence of such from the courier was not enough and consequently I've lost out. I can't see what is wrong with any ad that says arrange your own courier? If someone can't collect and they choose the alternative, surely that's their choice? They surely must understand any risks involved? If a buyer isn't willing to take the risk then why should the seller? I've only ever seen one ad on here that says collection is not possible. Sometimes items are too far away for collection but that's just life. If I sell an item that says arrange your own courier, it is not a cop out. It simply means that collection is preferred but if someone can't collect there is another option that I'm not willing to take the risk with.

  23. Its a shame for you and the bass. I was going to try post something positive about the neck pocket and how nice the rest of the bass is and you shouldn't worry. I was reaching. I think it would of always been on your mind. I think with anything you should be completely happy but at that price point, just satisfied won't do. And it was disappointing to hear that the experience wasn't as you hoped. I might of even contacted musicman themselves. Because really that pocket must of been a qc fail given the standards the claim. They might not of helped but they would of known I had my eye on them haha!
