1. Its obviously become worse since the decline in music sales. Management are looking at other ways to make money and this is it. I agree though that the only way we can vote is with our wallet. I have not been to a 'big' gig for years and have no plans to either
2. Thought 400 quid was a bit low for a neil armstrong autograph
3. Open mic (not Mike Lol) are really popular and can be great fun so yes go along with the intention of just watching and take your bass in case you decide to join in. What harm can it do?
4. I think its an age thing too. Now I am middle age I worry more and am more aware of the consequences so I take spare bass and DI box. Where as in my nephews band of teenagers the bass player and guitarist dont even bother with spare strings let alone guitars
5. I have a spare that is the same as my main bass so I have two Vintage brand V4 precision basses. Couldnt imagine turning up at a gig with only one bass.
6. Interested to see what the opinions are on having music stands on stage with you while you are playing. In our band me and guitarist share vocals so sing half the songs each. Therefore its an even split on what we have to remember in terms of music and lyrics. I never use a stand and make the occasional mistake and do forget some words as I try to do it all from memory where as our guitarist openly uses one quite visible on stage but never makes a mistake. Ive always been dead against them but I am seeing more and more other bands using them openly now so is it deemed as bad as it used to be? I know you can try and discreetly hide them but unless you can see the music there is not much point to having them. Any thoughts?
7. By the looks of it so far, my money is on teenage kicks being No1
8. I feel for you. I was on the verge of buying a new rig as i won a big contract at work which meant a nice chunk of commission. Order got cancelled so I lost out and since then market has declined a bit. No new rig for me for a long time but I still keep looking
9. Town called malice Eton rifles Tubestation She sells sanctuary Teenage kicks All of the day all of the night Should i stay or should i go Pinball wizard Substitute
10. Thanks for the quick replies. I tried a few different leads as I have bag full of mini jack to stereo phono and it was all the same, and all the volumes on the phone are up. I think I will try using my laptop this weekend as it seems it must be the phone isn't powerful enough. Plus like has been said I may get a text during the intro being played. Just wanted something a bit more portable as its only a 2 minute intro to the whole show.
11. Sorry when i meant aux in i actually meant its currently connected to the cd in via the red and white phono inputs on the mixer
12. We have started to use an intro to our gigs and as I am in charge of vocal PA as well as bass/vocals i decided to copy it onto my mobile and play it through the aux in on our mixer. Used it for first time the other night and you could hardly hear it. I had the Cd/tape knob turned up full and it was still barely noticeable and the volume on the phone was up full too. The track appears to be the same volume of all the other songs on my phone but they are all quiet through PA. I could turn the master up on the mixer but then i would have to turn it down again before we sang which would be a hassle. Anyone else had this problem. Would it make a difference if I ran it into one of the channels instead of via the aux in? Or maybe burn it onto a cd and play it through a laptop plugged in? Have a big gig this friday so want to try and use it then. Thanks
13. I saw the les dawson one on the TV and remember seeing his family were quite moved by it. As a stand alone comedian with no real lighting needed or movement though I can imagine it being quite effective. As a singer or musician moving around stage though it would probably look less effective and I think may be disrespectful to the performers original shows.
14. I currently use a LH500 twinned with a TC Elec BC212 and am very happy with the sound. Very simplistic EQ which suits me. Just looking around for a S/H BC212 or BC210 to complete my set up
15. I sell LED lights in my day job for ambulances and the technology is moving incredibly fast. We are seeing 10w LEDs on the market now so stage lighting is becoming great for LEDs as the main bonus is the lack of heat in your face.
16. If you would rather see the foam for yourself rather then buy online then dunelm do loads
17. I am in west mids and would have one of the BC210 in a nano second if you did decide to split or if Frannie passes up on it (Obviously i would like the one without the buzz). I already have a LH500 and 1 x BC212 so a BC210 would be great to go with it
18. On the basis that NCD also means new cab day, then if i bought a second hand cab and spent 3 days polishing it, would that be OCD day?
19.
You could buy a small mixer that would satisfy the aux ins and 2 basses then plug into any amp.
+1 A small SH mixer will give you the inputs aux and headphone and maybe even some effects. Then connect that to a power amp and then to a cab of your choice
20.
It's weird these days, that a good quality studio recording which costs the artists a lot of money to do properly and will last pretty much forever is expected to be free, while people seem to have no problem paying for the ephemeral experience that is a gig and which in musical terms may be massively inferior...
I agree and some people also wont pay for music but will happily pay over £3 for a dreadful coffee in a paper cup that lasts a minute or two!!
21. Ive been gigging with the V4 tony butler sig for last 12 months and am very happy with it
22. If you cant afford a VM or CV then look at JHS vintage V4 P basses. I have two and in my opinion are better than affinity range. I paid £70 off ebay for one of mine and I am very happy with tone.
23.
Can we put this in quotes of the year? I'm still trying to work it out...! God only knows?
Me too
24. I don't need an 810 stack but I would still love one on stage. Its just my back won't let me anymore
25.
Alternatively, Bonzodog was right in the first place and he's odd. Just saying ...
Yes that was my first thought
