1. Always thought Fred Zep singer struggled with the high notes but the Zeppelin 3 singer/bass player gets them all. Then again not seen Fred Zep for a few years
2. Anyone living in the Midlands and likes Zep should check out The Zeppelin 3. Amazing tribute even though only a 3 piece.
3. That's too much of a coincidence. I've have lots of bass amps over the years including a Lh500 and no problems.
4. As well as great bass lines don't forget he was singing great vocal harmonies at the same time
5.
We do a couple of Jam numbers and those Foxton bass lines are supremely wonderful. Down in the tube station at midnight and Going underground if you were wondering....
As a mod revival band we do all the jam classics plus a few lesser known ones. All have great bass lines but by far my favourite song to play is Start
6. Dave Hill doesnt live too far from me and I often see him at our local garden centre buying plants. Lovely bloke
7. I grew up in the 80s and i think because it was a time when the synthesiser was becoming more mainstream there was a lot of computer based songs that were pretty poor. Early drum machines sounded pretty naff but formed the basis to a lot of 80s songs
8.
That's actually probably spot on. Roger Waters syndrome sorta thing. Still, he's a grown man & should really sort his sh*t out, particularly where his family's concerned. Talking of family...was it just me or did his current missus seem really odd around him? Something not right there :/
Yes i thought that. There was clearly a long pause before she answered the question put to her.
9. Is it just me or are less and less people bothering to leave feedback on ebay. I dont sell that much on ebay but originally almost everyone left me good feedback. In the last 8 sales over 2 months only one person has left me feedback. I know its not compulsory but its annoying as its helps build your profile as a trusted seller. Plus I pride myself in excellent packaging and prompt despatch
10. Most amps will say on the back. Minimum load 4ohms. Therefore if you use a 4ohm cab thats all you can use but you will get the full power of the amp. However this is where it gets confusing for a newbie. 2 x 8ohms cabs togther equals 4 ohms. So you can put 2 of these cabs together from the amp to get the full power. It will only be as 'loud' as using 1 x 4ohm cab but because you are moving more air using 2 cabs it will sound 'louder' plus if one is on top of the other one it will be closer to your ears when playing which is good. You can just use 1 x 8ohm cab with the same amp but you will only get abour 2/3 of the output. Some amps go down to 2ohms meaning you can use 2 x 4ohms cabs but these are rarer.
11. By no means excusing his obnoxious personality but when you see how he was beaten as a kid by being in the wrong crowd and was a very heavy drug taker from an early age, its not surprising he's turned out the way he has.
12.
Great talent, but he comes across as a thoroughly unlikeable man. It would break my heart to have a Son of mine regret me being his Father.
Yes thats the bit I was uncomfortable with. Felt really sorry for his son.
13. Great docu film about Ginger Baker is now on the iplayer after being on tv last night. Well worth a watch. Also on netflix too
14.
You don't.
Well I have learnt something today then As its happens since we bought a better mixer with XLR outputs we use mic leads leads now anyway but with our old mixer with only jack outs w3 used speaker leads!
15. The one that always confuses me is what lead to use between a jack monitor output on a mixer to a powered monitor jack input? I assume its a signal/instrument cable as you are only carrying a signal not power. But then why out of the same mixer you use speaker cables to go into active speakers when its the same principal??? Very confusing
16. Yes as has already been said it will be fine. I used to DJ and all DJ forums would always suggest your amp to be twice as powerful in watts as your speakers but must never clip
17. In my 3 piece cover band our drummer is amazing as well as being a nice bloke. He plays in another originals band and i know that is his real passion so I am always worried he pay pack our band in at any point. Ive spoken to the guitarist and he always says we can easily find another one if he was to walk but as a bass player i gel so well with him i wouldnt want to play with anyones else.
18. Sorry its £215 at Andertons, Richtone, Gak to name but a few
19. Thanks for the input everyone. Going to pick up a TC BH250 when i get back from my business trip. Like their sound and be fun to have a play around with the tone print. Good price at £210 too
20. My band is considering getting IEMs for various reasons. The powered monitors we use don't seem to be powerful enough, there is often a lack of space for gear and our other singer has a much quieter voice than me. He is often shouting so much to hear himself rather than singing his voice does not last the night. We are only using a vocal PA so all that will be coming through the IEMs will be our two voices. There appears to be a lot of home branded systems on Thomann (tbone) and gear4music at very cheap prices but not sure if they are good enough. The high end gear seems to boast better sound quality but as we only need them for vocals and are not fussed about a clear sound (we just want to hear ourselves), then are the budget ones suitable for our needs. We don't jump around the stage so we could even go with wired systems but I suppose wireless would be better Would be keen to hear what systems people use at the cheaper end. We may find they IEMs are not for us so don't want to spend a fortune. Any links to ones that fit the bill would be great Thanks
21.
Well the DI would get you out of a fix, no doubt about that. When I was in a gigging band that used our own PA all the time that`s the route I went down.
Cheers for the reply. Was your PA just a vocal set up with 12" tops though?
22. After reading the back up gear thread I have become nervous as I only now carry my Hartke LH500 to gigs (plus 2 cabs). I used to have an old spare amp but it packed up a while ago and wasn't worth fixing. The general feeling on that thread was just to take a DI box as back up for an amp. However in my band we only use a vocal PA with a pair of EV ZLXp powered 12" tops. They are not budget speakers but also are not the best money can buy. My question is if I did buy a DI box or preamp pedal (Bass attack for example) and in the unlucky event my amp packed up, would it be advisable playing my bass through a pair of 12 inch speakers. I know it would depend on how big the gig was as I am sure a small gig would be okay, but we do play a lot of medium sized venues and have to crank the volume of the vocal PA up. I did post here recently about adding subs to our PA just for vocals and general feeling was that it wasn't worth it so I am not going to buy subs for the PA on the basis I might have to put my bass through it if my amp fails. So question is would I be better getting a smaller back up amp to get through a gig than using a DI box into a vocal PA? I have a budget of £200 for an amp so was looking at the TC BH250 or the Markbass Blackline MB250. As its a back up you may think its a waste as I may never use it, but as they are are small amps I can use them for rehearsals and home practise rather than the heavier LH500. I could buy a cheap SH amp, but I prefer to have the warranty and also credit terms. My cabs are a TC BC210 and a TC Bc212 If i went for the cheaper DI/Preamp option I may look at the Bass Attack or the MXR M80 as I may want to add some dirt to some of our songs. Would appreciate advice on which way to go. Thanks
23. You can buy speakon connectors from maplin for about £8.00 where you plug a TS lead into the back which gives you the flexibility of having both available.
24. I use a LH500 and am very happy with it. It is a very simple setup so not everyones cup of tea but i like the simplistic eq. i have never seen the bit about having 600w at 4ohm. I use mine with two TC elec BC212 at 250w each so i am only getting 500w at 4ohm not 600w. Never had a problem though and it never goes up past a quarter even at big gigs with no PA support
25. Really tempted with getting one of these. I am after a back up amp and have a limited budget. Although I use the full 500W of my LH500, this blackline I hope would certainly get me out of trouble in small to mid size gigs if I needed it paired up with my two TC 212 cabs
