1.
Sorry about that Dave... In future I'll drop you a PM before I sell anything...
Might be better if I PM you before buying anything!
2. Agreed, Strings Direct are very quick and have plenty to choose from. I just bought a case from them (bad timing, Mr. Discreet!) and that was delivered within a couple of days as well.
3.
Aye! Cracking amp but one too many new toys coming in so need to make room
Tempted to have it back, started playing through an amp again recently after a while going DI.
4. I bought this from the organizer of a biker rally we played last month, after a set-up and a change of strings it is my current main bass. CiJ Fender in the Hiscox case I bought for it last week.
5. Never once has either of us had any comment on the other's music except 'turn that crap off'. Shared car journeys are 'enjoyed' in silence.
6. We played a wedding gig that was also a pub gig, the manager and chef who run a pub near me tied the knot yesterday and asked us to provide the evening entertainment in a marquee in the pub garden. Went well, lots of people dancing and having a good time (not that the free beer tent had anything to do with that!).
7. I'd sooner play in the dives than the posh places, the people are more real, and tend to appreciate the music more.
8. We do a version of Elvin Bishop's 'My Dog' which has been a real favourite at our gigs since we started https://soundcloud.com/finndave-1/my-dog
9.
if the crowd is my age or younger ;-) Sixpence none the richer version of , Don't dream its over , Crowded house Stone sour , through the looking glass Slide * Goo goo dolls , the more overlooked Kyptonite - 3 doors down For the wedding party staples ;-) Moves like jagger , Maroon 5 ( great fun) https://www.youtube....h?v=EqyXMXRyD5g especially if your singer can strut. Toxic - Juliet turner ( Brittney spears) Everytime , Glen hansard and colm Maclomaire https://www.youtube....h?v=qNKzdbEDlHI ( we've filled it out a bit but you get the idea) Raiding the early 90's bin Roll to me last to know Del amitri Get what you give New radicals Real gone Kid Deacon Blue SmashMouth All star .. complete with fake keyboard scratching sounds. A shocker where the quiet bass player at the back give's his tbird to the keyboard player and sing's because he cant get anywhere near the highs when he's playing. Barenaked Ladies All been done before
I look at that list and realise I have never heard of any of the songs or bands named there. I feel old!
10.
The idea of playing through an amp at 9pm seems absurd to me...
The idea of laying through an amplifier at home seems totally unecessary and self-indulgent to me. The only reason to play alone at home is to learn new parts or improve your playing in general. For that the 'tone' argument is redundant. No need to make others unwilling share your mistakes.
11.
Do you know of any rehearsal spaces in the area? It might be an idea to suggest a time and place and see who'd be prepared to travel?
Remind me after the weekend, away at a bike rally until Sunday.
12. Get used to headphones, it's no big deal and you will barely be heard in the same room. If I feel the need to play at home (which is rare) it is always through my vox amplug and headphones. Plugging in an amp is just too much hassle.
13.
And I must say, Wirebirds version of White rabbit tingled my spine also, nice work there Dave!
Thank you!
14. One track leads to another, for a long time I had this one track on permanent play in my car. Certainly held my attention for a very long time, and still does it for me. More rather good bass playing, I reckon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiIJhzkVwio
15. I've got a couple of Jazzes but I'm quite attached to them both.
16. This also takes my breath away, especially as the first time I heard it was being played live, and I was in a somewhat altered state of mind. Some wonderful bass playing in here too: https://www.youtube....h?v=zWak6bfPS_U My second wife couldn't bear to be in the house when I listened to it, she said it was the music of the madhouse, it really disturbed her to hear it.
17. I just bought a similar looking CiJ Fender badged P bass, lovely lovely bass. I'd love another, any interest in a Casady replica?? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/259580-epiphone-jack-casady-with-hard-case-now-with-better-pictures/page__fromsearch__1
18.
Duff link, I'm afraid...
OOps, let me try again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2K-fx3uoeo
19. Reading this thread made me seek this out again. Still makes my heart race and the hairs on the back of the neck stand up, especially the section starting 08.50 and the two guitar solos (Steve Hillage) at 12.10 and 13.08. Loud, through headphones, for best results
20. Unfortunately in this case our hopes are not exactly compatable! Just listening through some recent gig recordings for a good version of 'Rabbit', last gig had a couple stood by the recorder for that one song! If you enjoyed hearing Jen sing Rabbit then you might also like our 'Move Over' https://thewirebirdswithjennyhaan.bandcamp.com/track/move-over We usually hold this one back for the final encore as Jen can barely talk or stand after it, she puts everything into it.
21.
Yes, indeed; the magic still operates. Thanks for posting; great job.
Thank you, the studio version is rather tame compared to playing it live, at one recent gig the audience insisted on hearing it 4 times!
22.

Mr Discreet, as always a chap of impeccible taste, mainly for avoiding the temptation of posting 'Constipation Blues'! I can still remember how I felt the first time I heard The Great Society's (later Jefferson Airplane's) White Rabbit, and it still goes down a storm when my current band plays it. Immodestly, I therefore offer The Wirebirds and the amazing Jenny Haan's version: https://thewirebirds...ck/white-rabbit
