1. Financially, I should never have flogged a 71 Jazz (sunburst, blocks, covers etc). Sold it about 7 or 8 years ago for £900. Worth well over two grand today. Playing wise, I have had periods of regret about certain basses I have sold (eg, the red Nash Jazz, a white Fender Jazz) but I move on. So in reality je ne regrette rien!
2. 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This thread is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to this forum 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
3. You were right farmer61, Guns n Roses did not make my day go any better. Axl's voice has gone, they had four (yes four) lead guitarists and two keyboard players, and the main guitarist stood there legs astride, guitar up at 45 degrees, wearing a top hat, playing a Les Paul, and smoking a cigarette - they must have chosen him from a Stars in Your Eyes Slash-alike contest. Deeply underwhelming and got home at 12.30am, with my alarm going off this morning at 5am. I'm sure the medical text books don't recommend this as a way to recover from broken bones PS, for bass nerd purposes, the GnR bassist was mainly playing a couple of Fender Jaguars and a Fender-alike P/J
4. Given my two broken bones in my left hand (see DB forum), there is a fair chance I will either have to play electric bass for this gig ... or not even play at all
5. Cool, now I only have to persuade Legion (Jas) to lend me his Fender Pino for, lets say, the next 25 years
6.
So to end off a really crap day, you've to go to a GnR gig, mate I'm truely sorry for you !
Yep, expect Axl to wander on stage about 10.30 to a p*ssed off crowd, 25 minutes before the O2 organisers pull the plug
7.
Jazz here if required, hopefully situation looks like it's improving!
Happy Jack has just kindly offered to lend me my old Precision fretless for Sunday so I am sorted - at least on the bass front! I shall not be practising on a bass until probably Saturday so that the immediate swelling can go down. Well this is not how I expected Wenesday to pan out! Unfortunately I have to take a client to Guns n Roses tonight at the O2 and they are standing tickets too. Expect me right at the back, away from any mosh pit ...
8.
Ah, if either of us had a great mind, I'd say something profound........ PS I have a drefretted Jazz you could use if of use!
Thanks mate! I have - by spooky coincidence - just asked the owner of my old fretless Precision if I can borrow it for this weekend's rehearsal as the action on that is lower than a low thing.
9.
Dude, if you want a dep who won't show you up or steal the gig, give me a shout! If you didn't have the splint you could make it with fingers taped together (for whatever reason, I only use first, second and fourth fingers on DB), but the splint is a problem. In all seriousness, you could get a second opinion from a specialist (e.g., sports) physio; the good ones tend to be very good at managing future risk whilst maintaining current performance. All the best either way C
Hi mate, I've left a message for the frontman/leader and offered him either me on electric bass for the short term or a dep on DB. I reckon I can blag it on my Precision as the bass lines are generally very simple and I can make a lot of use of open notes, plus the action on my Precision is very low. DB is obviously out for me for a few weeks Will keep you posted
10. Bad news. X-rays showed broken bone in hand and minor fracture of ring finger. I have ring and middle fingers taped together and a hand splint. F************************CK
11. Thanks Chris, its the 2nd and 3rd fingers (as in middle and ring fingers) which potentially means I can only play with my forefinger Doc's appointment 11am - will see what they say ...
12. First DB gig coming up and first band rehearsal on Sunday so what do I do? Fall down the stairs at 6am today and dislocate two fingers on left hand. Managed to yank them back into place ( horrible experience, made me throw up) and put hand under cold running water. Loads of ibuprofen. Hurting less now and I will probably get an x-ray done to check if anything broken. Fingers crossed ( and they were unfortunately) there's no lasting damage. Has anyone dislocated fingers and what is the recovery time? Obviously I am very worried about upcoming band rehearsal as there will be a maximum of two before our first gig on 30th
13. Try Minotaur, based in Greece. They have an online shop and have a good range of top quality leather straps. I have a couple of 4 inch wide padded straps in plain black but they also do fancier straps (eg, with musical note in contrast colour, a la Stevie Ray Vaughan).
14. Back from very cold Finland bump!
15. Joona just bought my CS '64 Jazz and trusted me to ship to Finland despite being new to BassChat and not knowing me. He was a gent throughout and sent documentary proof of bank transfer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone thinking of buying/selling with Joona in future. Enjoy the Jazz! All the best Clarky
16.
That's a great pity. The other reason for the Vintage, that it was built to fit underneath proper valve amps, is still valid and a stack of two compacts is not going to have anything like the same visual appeal or the necessary stability. Oh well, guess I'll be keeping my EBS 2x12 for a while longer.
Alternatively Pete you could buy my Vintage Will be bringing to BassBash next month if not sold by then
17.
If you had another you could run them at 4 ohms!
But then my other kids wouldn't have an ohm to go to * sounds of tumbleweed ............ *
18.
I have an IntelliTouch PT-10 - it works pretty well clipped on the bridge. It's good for gigs etc because it has a big display that goes green when in tune which makes it useful for checking intonation as Bilbo suggests.
Thanks for the tip. Looks good. Just ordered one
19.
Yes. Quite a lot more. And they may not stack particularly well due to the lack of Feet/cup things... Someone please buy this cab before I am tempted to do something silly. Don't suppose you would accept a thirteen year old boy in part exchange?
Sorry I already have a 12 year old boy (and two other children). Afraid its cash only
20. My wife has over 50 pairs of shoes - maybe I should also sell some of them on BassChat
21. I would be happy with my 1972 Precision. But I once nearly bought a Fender Pino Palladino Precision and I have always hankered after one.
22. If you are a fretless player (I am rubbsih) this has to be the bargain of basschat. Must be best part of 1500 quid cheaper than new and less than a Mexican (RW) Fender.
23. Monday bump for a neat little, as-new cab
24. Thanks for clarifying BottomEndian! FYI, although I want cash for this, I am not in a burning hurry ... so I am prepared to put it on hold for a definite buyer until next month's Surrey Bass Bash if the buyer cannot otherwise get down to London before then.
