1. Lots of interest if its priced at £200! may as well say it before someone else does, but you have to list a price under the rules blah blah
2. Stacker has a couple of Nash J's, both of which used to belong to me. Very good quality basses, sound fabulous, extremely well put together and the relic'ing is quite authentic looking. My only gripe is they don't try hard enough with the fingerboard - white plastic dot markers (clay would have been better or at least creamy 'aged' looking plastic) and the rosewood could have been darker. Great basses though and there's an increasing number of well known users (eg Guy Pratt, Rob Trujillo [Metallica])
3.
Sadowsky gear is also made in a different way, and isn't the best comparison really. As i said earlier the Empire gear is fairly comparable to the Sadowsky models, and seems similarly priced. It'd be interesting to compare the Fodera list against Ken Smith and Alembic pricing, as they are other big names in a similar vain.
Top of the range Alembics are typically in the $10-15,000 range (see link here for Bass Central's inventory http://www.basscentral.com/alembicbass/mar...shtml#6strings). Alembic only emplys 26 people and virtually everything is custom-made but they don't run anywhere near the high end of Fodera pricing.
4. Having received PMs, I just want to make absolutely clear that I will not post these items due to size/weight (and fragility of valves as I don't have a flight case for the amp). Its collection-only or meet-up. Sorry to those further afield.
5. Specifications below (note: the Orange weighs 25kg, while the Vintage weighs 21 kg) http://www.soundunlimited.co.uk/product_33...D200B_Head.html http://barefacedbass.com/vintage.htm
6. Major edit (as have reconsidered and decided to keep Barefaced cab): OK, mistake (not for the first time)! In a fit of rockgod enthusiasm I bought Tee's Orange AD200B amp at the end of June. Basically its too heavy (just over 50 lb) for my dodgy back. I bought a TC 450 Classic head as back-up for the Orange and TBH it does a pretty good copy of tubey-ness so I am going back to a lightweight rig. Call me a wuss, Wayne! Hence I am moving this on. £750 for this lovely warm sounding Orange amp (perfect nick bar one metal rivet on one corner) Due to size/weight its collection/meet-up only in London (I am near hammersmith)
7.
you sound like my mam.
I hope for her sake she doesn't look like Wayne too
8. Update: Potential bass plus cash trade agreed
9. Makes the one FS on BassChat look positively bargain basement You can buy a whole Fodera bass on BC for the same price as an aluminium bridge, truss rod and back plate cover!!!!
10. The only wood to come close in resonance and sheer musicality is the 1,800 year old bog wood* used by Ritter * I'll sell any one my bog for three grand
11. Any bass made in the Year of Clarky ('63) will sound superior. Fact PS. Stop being a tease Chris and get some pics up in Gear Porn
12.
Both well worth keeping for that very same reasons. Just to clarify so the Mods don't shoot me down, i listed the basses with no intention of starting an auction or owt, just so people could see I've not got the easiest of decisions, should I go on with the plan.
"get yer luvly basses ére, two for a pahnd. Leg it, its the rossers!"
13.
That bass is called Mary?
Marcus' sister On topic, though, that looks a superb piece of equipment and a slapperś delight, BoomBass. ACś are really something special. Good luck with your sale
14. PS, Happy Jack has a gorgeous antigua-burst AC 5-string Precision which sends my GASometer sky high too! Sounds great too as I heard it in the flesh live on Saturday night
15. And now BoomBass has just put up a 5 string Alleva a la Marcus up for sale! Allevas every way you turn right now!
16.
I love Metallica, but what the hell is with the low volumes of bass on the albums?! It seems to have got worse, but AJFA was just plain daft!
Apparently Hetfield and Ulrich deliberately mixed down the bass on AJFA as some sort of mean trick on Newsted although some say it was because they were still grieving for Cliff Burton. I think the former is probably closer to the mark as they made Newsted go through all sorts of unpleasant initiation rituals according to a biography I read. Makes me laugh that there's a bass tab book for AJFA as I really can't hear ANY bass on the album! From the Black Album onwards though I can hear the bass perfectly well, especially the aforementioned as the Alembic cuts through (Newsted switched to Sadowskys in the mid 90s)
17. Not for me but I think any sale of a pricey bass needs pics - Steve/Higgie, get 'em posted!
18. You are all missing the obvious point which is that you can't go wrong buying an Ampeg
19.
Photo's don't do the yummy green justice. This is a lovely bass.
Thanks Adam - you're right, the photo above was taken on a gloomy day. In the flesh, the colour is a sort of peppermint green with a metallic sheen to it. Its better represented in the pic on the Alleva website of this very bass:
20. Bump in case anyone hadn't spotted the partial trade option mentioned above - and here's a reminder of the bass in question (photo tilted sideways, I don't live in a spacecraft!)
21.
I smell a deal coming on.....hehehehe
I think Chris said in his FS thread he has agreed a trade with his LPB 64P and another (more mojo'd) 60s P bass.
22. OK, my punk band Kismetik's drummer has quit and it may take us ages to find a replacement. The upside is it has given me leverage with our guitarist/frontman to state my demands, amongst which is that I have a side project (he has one and our drummer had one, so I think its only fair). Playing punk originals is all well and good but means that our band often plays to very small audiences and also that its pretty hard to get gigs. Basically, I fancy the immediate gratification of playing songs on stage that people recognise and are into and that I love. Hence I am after an occasional covers band, preferably with more (ahem) mature musicians (I'm in my 40s). My all-time favourite band is Metallica and ideally I would love to play bass in a band that covered their early material (up to Black Album). But I would consider other loud guitar-based rock/metal too (not death metal, done that and can't stand the growling vocals), eg GnR or even classic punk (Clash, Pistols, Ruts etc). I also love Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds so would happily join a Bad Seeds/Grinderman/Birthday Party covers band too. Ideal for me would be to rehearse a couple of times a month and gig maybe once a month. Not a heavy schedule as I have a pretty demanding job, plus family commitments - and I need to leave time for Kismetik too. But enough for a bunch of like-minded people to have some fun. I have transport, good gear, I'm definitely not technically gifted but am a pretty good time-keeper. I'm also nerdily reliable about time (almost always arrive before the soundman and everyone else at gigs!) Plus I've played maybe 50 gigs in the last 2-3 years so I know what that side is all about. I live near Hammersmith but work near Liverpool Street and usually rehearse in Camden area with Kismetik. Of course I'd be happy to rehearse a bit nearer where I live. Occasional Metallica (or Bad Seeds) covers band would be my ideal but, as I say, try me on anything else. This is me (including one photo when wearing a Sp*rs shirt for the charity 'Shirt of Hurt'):
23. Looks to have shockingly high action to me! Its not a DB fercrissakes, it looks like a 'normal' 34 inch scale length so I guess the guy must like a real thump from hi strings!
24. Quick bit of 'tec work. its a Spanish maker called Marco http://www.marcoguitarsbass.com/index_arch...tarusmateen.htm
