1. Thanks gents. I also contacted Mark at BassDirect this morning who advised me that my TC450 Classic and TC112 cab should do the job well, as long as I keep control of the lows. I will stick with my rig then for the time being and see if it works out before committing to any more spends!
2. I am going to attempt to resurrect my DB playing (whioch has been dormant for years now) but I have no amplification (I used to have a Polytone but flogged it on BC in 2008). It struck me the PJB Briefcase might be a useful addition to the Clarky household as I could use it as a practice amp for my electric if it also was handy for my DB. So does anyone any experience with a PJB Briefcase and DB? Thx Clarky
3. Daily bump plus pointing out £50 price cut ^^^ There's an 'ono' there too!
4. Big difference between purple and lilac, according to Happy Jack
5. Just downloaded your EP and singles. DB lines are (no disrespect!) very straightforward. Where/when do you rehearse?
6. Like the music! I live near Hammersmith and have a DB but I'm much better on electric bass unfortunately ... mind you your bass lines are not too tricky ..... Perhaps you could tell us where/how often you rehearse and how often you plan to gig etc
7.
I've never got blisters doing that.
Maybe she meant Anne Widdicombe
8. Price cut to £1550 posted. Check out two new pics above.
9.
interestingly I picked up a Jazz gig? i think some of the punters mistook my poor timing and errant tuning as mastery of that genre
Ha ha - I so hope Bilbo reads that!
10.
what sort of impact will a re-fin have on any re-sale value? I like it as it is, but I tend to like natural/wood finishes
A re-fin will almost certainly be detrimental - although there is a hard core of Metallica fans out there that are after Burton/Newsted-alike basses should I have to sell. For example I keep getting messages from the Alembic Club from people after my black Spoiler (the same model Burton played). I tried (and failed) to track down a black Elan or Europa 5 as I would rather buy one that was ready-made rather than have re-finned (you will see me nagging Jazzyvee above to sell me his black Elan/Europa 5 but he sensibly doesn't want to part with his!)
11. Here's a pic of my new Elan 5, taken this morning. Now do I leave it as is (other than get a replacement truss rod cover in brass, which is on order) or do I get it re-finned in deep gloss black (like Jason Newsted and Jazzyvee's Elan/Europa 5) or in a see-through black that shows the flame of the wood through it? Examples below. Decisions .....
12. Here are a couple of new pics taken in natural light (I have deleted my pics taken at night with flash as they represented the colours of the bass really badly).
13. Congratulations Chris. Out of interest could you tell us a few of the non-original songs you played, just so we can place the style better? Oh and - referring to you r babe magnet thread yesterday - did you get mobbed by the laydeez afterwards?
14. Well, I tried meths this morning and no joy at all. Then purely as a punt I tried some of Mrs Clarky's brass/copper cleaner (Goddards Long term Brass & Copper Polish) and its taken at least 90% of the crud/oxidation off. I then gave the string a wash with soap and water. There's still some dark marks where the corrosion was but thats hardly surprising and they don't show at all from a distance. It now looks like the string will be playable and not visually disgusting. Thereby saving me dosh
15. Sold
16. I am now expecting someone to set up a BassChat poll as to who is the most "indecisive git". Assume myself, Musicman20 and a few others (beedster etc) will be the front runners ....
17.
Someone buy this - its as good a passive DI as you can get!
Thanks 51m0n! Still available
18.
Damn - I nearly posted earlier that I'd take bets on this being up for sale before the end of the weekend but thought that maybe I was being a bit harsh, lol.
Fair comment Barrie! I wavered as its so pretty but I have a greater need of moolah and more basses than I need
19.
I'll give it a week
Try 4 hours, Tredders! Sorry for being a plonker here. I A/B'd it against my Precision and I just know that I will end up favouring my Precision. It feels more like an old pair of slippers to me and I have more of a Precision sound in my head than a Jazz sound. So the 64 Jazz is back up FS at £1600 ono posted. PS, I weighed it with my digital scales and it comes in between 8.8-8.9 lb
20. I used to reserve my '72 Precision for decent gigs and my (now sold) punky, beat-up CIJ P bass 'Sid' for any gig where I thought the bass might get bashed or where there wasn't a secure storage area for gear. In practice this meant I almost always took 'Sid'. Thats why I sold it, so I could play my 72P a great deal more. Only then I bought an Alembic (and played that at our last gig) and then our drummer quit so no gigs for foreseeable future ..... Ho hum
21.
I have had the problem I know you will be refering to...I solved it with further instruments by use of chamois leather .I cut it into strips the width of the foam rolled it round and superglued in place putting the join at the bottom so its nowhere near the instrument....works fine as far as I can see.......wheres the CS gone?????
Thanks Tony. The CS is withdrawn from sale for the time being as I think I may regret selling it. It's damn nice! Edit: of course, me being Clarky, it was back on sale again a few hours after posting this
22. Further to my post yesterday about the resilience of nitro finishes, are any bass stands safe for use with a nitro finish or is the foam on all of them liable to stain? PS, I know I could put some old T-shirt material over my Warwick Rockstand (which is next to my bed ) but Mrs Clarky, being house-proud, might object to that
23. I guess you can give the dalmation puppy and small baby back to their owners now, Beedster I just wear a Johnny Depp mask
24. I spent a long time playing this bass last night and have just spent another half hour with it. Its just lovely and I'm really not sure I should sell it. So, much as I would like the cash, I am withdrawng the bass for sale for now and seeing how I get on with it. As I said in an earlier post, I have a history of falling for Jazzes and then re-considering after comparing with my Precision. However, this one is certainly the nicest Fender Jazz I have ever played and I want to be sure I am not making a big mistake by selling it.
