1.
Not that this helps you to sell it, but I bet the pictured rig sounded amazing!? Orange sat on top of a 2x15... Shame your gig requirements have shifted. Good luck. (No money to spend on live rig at the mo... Shame.)
It would have sounded amazing on that stadium tour we never quite got around to before my punk band's drummer quit! Bit OTT for the Dog and Duck, Camden on a Tuesday night
2. Having recently taken ownership of a Wal (a '78 ProIIE) I have to say I think my Alembic is better put together and I prefer the tone of the Alembic. Not saying the Wal isn't a nice bass, just that I prefer my Alembic. I'm sure plenty will disagree with me but the Alembics I have played are just the height of craftsmanship, whereas the Wal is more like a quality step up from Fender with superior electronics. Waits for bricks from the Wal devotees ....
3.
Ah!!!! that's really tempting, I reckon you'll have shifted it by the time I've raised the funds though. How did you find the sound with the orange head? Obviously a different beast to the terror but same preamp I thought?
One word. Rock! The Orange valve head is very bass-heavy and warm (could not do glassy/ hi-fi if it tried) and the Vintage suits it to a tee.
4. This Powerball thingummy look like a good idea. I played the whole set this afternoon (along to the CD) and my arms are both very tired. Just ordered one on eBay. Thanks chaps
5.
Is this one of the ones made from the lighter ply? Damn shame you cant post! Rob.
I'm afraid I don't know which type of ply it is made from. I think doctorbass bought it new in 2009, if that helps
6.
Good luck Clarky. Do you have a powerball? It'll help build your stamina for the show.
Nope, is that one of those squeezy orthopaedic recovery balls?
7. More seriously, I am belatedly trying to play everything finger-style and my new DB experience (being thrown in at the deep end) is almost certainly going to strengthen my right hand inordinately (no comments, matron)
8.
Oh and I have also got an upright.
What, thinking about Gareth?
9. You old* git, Gareth * 47 year-old Clarky shuffles off in slippers, dribbling slightly from corner of mouth
10.
Good luck Clarky - and bring an electric with you just in case!!! Might seem like an extreme thing to say, but if you're hands decide they've had enough you might be thankful you have a plank sitting beside you with it's tooth-pick neck inviting velvety comfort.
Thanks Gareth - actually we do one electric song so I will have my trusty P bass with me!
11.
What time do you expect to be hitting the stage Clarky?
Hey Jack - sorry I have no idea as yet but I suspect its going to be pretty late (as in past midnight). Doors open at 9pm and there's a few bands below us on the bill. We do have another gig upcoming at The Comedy Pub in Soho (7 Oxendon Street) on 23 November which is likely to be a bit more convenient!
12. First gig is approaching fast and we don't have our first rehearsal until next weekend. Eeek! Apparently there could be as many as 14 of us on stage including backing singers, horns, stilt-wearing souzaphone player, and various burlesque/circus type performers (fire breathers etc). Bit different to my punk trio Here's a link to the Gigs post with flyer http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry983396
13. Rattlin Bone is playing its inaugural gig on 30 October at The Miller, SE1 London. Its a 'Halloween horrorfest' with zombie bands etc and should be a hoot! Here's the flyer
14. If you can get down to London I have a Barefaced Vintage 2x15 that would match perfectly and at a really good saving from new (£475 including new padded cover, v £700 new). Check it out in the FS section. Edit: here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105995. Its too big to post unfortunately
15. Incidentally, if no cash offers are forthcoming, I would consider a trade with cash my way for a Barefaced Compact (with the vintage type grill). However, cash much preferred!
16. Here's a pic of the cab underneath my (now sold) Orange AD200B valve head
17.
I'd absolutely really like to try out the Vintage then. For what I want it's pretty much not right but you never know I guess! Speaking of which, do you have a link to the Surrey bassday? I keep on losing it but I've said I'm going!
Well obviously I would prefer to sell the Vintage before then but if it's still available I will bring it along to the Bass Bash. here's the link basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=102335
18. Sorry, my in-laws are up North so I tend to avoid venturing further than Watford If anyone is trekking down to the BassDay in Surrey next month I could bring the Vintage along to that, although I appreciate it's a month away still
19. Afraid no post as I would never find a box big enough and the right shape
20. I got this from Doctorbass about 4 or 5 months ago and it's in very good condition. I recently added a custom padded cover at a cost of £50-odd. Reason for selling is I am re-assessing what my rig needs to be, especially in light of my new DB gig. Just got a MB combo and as I have a Sansamp BDDI I can do the dirt /rock sound with this ( will probably add a stacking extension cab in case of bigger gigs). So the Vintage probably is going to get used once in a blue moon only. If you buy this together with my TC 112 cab ( FS at £275) - which would give you Little and Large options to go with your head - I will give you a good deal. £725 for both, can't say fairer than that for two cabs in superb condition that would cost you £1029 new Pickup only from west London (nr Hammersmith) as it's large, even though it's weirdly light! Here are the specs http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/vintage.htm and these are £700 new, by the way
21. Sunday morning bump for an essentially new cab ( probably 30 minutes of home playing time only!) at a £50-odd quid discount from new price. Or see trade option in post above. £25 discount if you also buy my Barefaced Vintage cab, FS elsewhere on BC for £475
22.
Clamp it on the bridge.
OK, didn't know you could do that. Now feel stupid
23. Bilbo mentioned having one of these in a thread but I reckon most clip on tuners wouldn't have a wide enough clamp part to hold on to a DB headstock. Anyone have a recommendation here for a particular model that fits a DB? Many thanks as ever, Clarky
24.
I use the little MarkBass 1x12 combo
On several BC'ers advice, I got a MarkBass CMD121P combo and, apart from being very light and portable, it seems to handle DB and EUB very well - especially now that jakesbass showed me how to use a Fishman Platinum Pro preamp into it. Not gigged it yet but in the home situation it sounds very good.
25. Just bought Fran's 51P reissue. Absolutely immaculate condition and he went to the trouble of setting up properly before he handed it over (as we swapped bridges). Recommended BC'er!
