1.
Mind you, owning one would probably improve my playing. By about £50.
Fatback, what you need is a blonde 1940s bass and then You would play GOODER like someone with my EXPERIENCE OK? Be CHILLED like me
2.
Yup. Before I read the thread I tried it on E/A side and it was too boomy, even with eq adjustments. So put it on D/G wing and it was nice and even, and loads of volume. John
Fab, many thanks! Got a band rehearsal on Saturday so will give this a try out then (I assume my replacement ATPFlex won't have arrived by then as Lando were waiting for stock, grrrr)
3. In the TB thread, people talk about affixing the TM piezo into the D/G wing rather than, as I would have assumed, the E/A wing ... is this your experience John/sloebluesine and oldslapper/John?
4. I spotted this link recently too from John Patitucci's site (they make his touring DB). Some beautiful pieces of art here. Especially love the patinated, characterful woods on the old basses for sale
5.
there's a whole thread here Clarky... http://www.doublebasschat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10561 yep it's a wing pup, very similar in size to a Bassmax but way way louder and feedback resistant, very similar sound to a Schatten RB1 IMO
Cool, I'll take it please. Can you PM me payment details please?
6. Hi mate, I assume this is a bridge wing piezo? I googled these and the only clip I could find was a rockabilly slapper - is that what this is designed for? If not, could you tell me something about its characteristics (and why its feedback resistant) as I am thinking it would be useful to have a backup pickup to my ATPFlex Electret (actually right now it would be useful to have any pickup, since I am still waiting for Lando Music to send a replacement ATPFLex after my first one was faulty)?
A splendid chap I'm sure, but not to be confused with I
Bet he doesn't wear spandex and eyeliner as well, Simon
8. Next up for Rattlin Bone, according to the London Evening Standard newspaper (see below) a "14 piece rock and roll burlesque gypsy voodoo jazz" [band], complete with deranged clowns", is the Meadowlands Festival on the South Coast. We are playing the main stage on the Sunday but we haven't got a confirmed time yet (we thinks its afternoon). In addition to the clowns there will be fire-eaters this time so it should be a spectacle! Here's the event details http://meadowlandsfestival.com/category/sun/ And here's the Standard's review of our last gig http://standardlondonevening.wordpress.com...y-9-april-2011/
9.
i don't for the moment think he was trying to rip anyone off, and reading the thread and responses I doubt anyone would think that.
Someone did: "Okay, just not good, seeing honest people being ripped off" Thats why I responded as I did
10.
Hello everybody, I'm living in Spain and I'll like to buy a Acoustic Image bass combo, but here doesn't exist any shop that sales such an amplifier.. the only solution for me it will be to buy it via internet in the U.S.... I'll prefer to take a plane and buy it in london...does somebody know any shop in London where I can try and buy such a thing? thank you a lot in advance and all the best to everybody from the atlantic coast of Spain. Billy.
If you look in the Double Bass FS section you will find an AI Combo and cab for a combined £400 - even with post to Spain that would still be very cheap compared to buying new from US Here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=132937
11. I have dealt with Richard in the past and I can say with 100% confidence he is a decent guy and not a rip-off merchant. If he didn't advertise this bass as a HW1 it would have been because he didn't know it was a HW1, I am sure. So lets stop kicking the man
12.
Obnoxious comments welcome.
If you've played double bass as long as I HAVE then you [s]are probably sh*t[/s] should listen to what I SAY which is ... err Buy my bridge and tuners. I am CHILLED OK?
13.
Hi all, I just joined the forum, and would like to show of my first new P Bass. I've owned a couple of used basses in the past, but this is my first new one, and what an amazing bass it is for the price!
Hey Rockape! Welcome to the forum. Thats a nice looking beast you have there, especially like the dark rosewood fretboard against the fiesta red. Great pics too
14. PaulKing is a big slap bass player - if you search for his posts you can get an idea - and he may be able to offer some more rockabilly-specific advice I tried Weedwackers but hated the dead E and A strings - Silver Slaps are great, low tension, nice sounding .... although I don't slap (one day I will ask PaulKing, who lives not too far from me in West London, to show me how to slap, in return for plying him with alcohol or whatever his poison is!)
15.
I'd rather be able to hear myself clearly than have an impractical 8x10" penis extension behind me
I keep mine firmly strapped down in front of me
16. Why don't Tech 21 wake up and smell the coffee and make a small Class D amp with a Sansamp EQ section? They have one of the strongest brand names for DI/EQ and yet insist only on applying this to pedals or relatively heavy (>20lb) 'old school' type amps
17. I briefly owned the non-relic'd version of this bass in sunburst (as part of a trade) and sold it to Finnish BC'er Joona (bassotaitellija). I had serious second thoughts about selling it on (and in fact removed it from sale at one point) as it was just the nicest playing and best put-together Jazz I had ever had my hands on. Quality bass bump from me!
18. Very sad - I love 'Wolf like me', great song. That is awfully young for cancer - my dad died of prostate cancer at 42 and that was way too young
19. Hi Dave, very similar to the problems I had at our last gig on a really boomy wooden stage. This may help a bit http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=131128 I am going to try foam plugs in the f-holes (sounds like something that happens in a gimp movie!) and, failing that, switch to a mag pickup from a piezo
20. Congratulations Phil!
21. Just took delivery of Nigel's J-Retro. In immaculate condition and packed expertly. Nigel is one of the really good guys of the BC community and a great person to deal with. Cheers mate!
22. When I used my AI Coda combo at our last gig the band leader (who does vocals only live but is a more experienced DB player than me) suggested that I should use my Fishman preamp into the Coda and use the former for tone shaping and feedback control (he has the same rig as me). This got me to wondering if there is any point having all those facilities on the AI combo if all you do is override them with the preamp. In which case I am wondering whether the money I have spent on my Ai gear is all a bit superfluous and that a perfectly acceptable alternative would be to plug the Fishman into the fx return socket of my electric rig (still waiting for it to arrive but will be the 500W Aguilar Tone hammer head and a Batefaced Compact)? More generally, a Fishman into any small Class D amp into a relatively uncoloured cab - just as good as a DB-specific rig? Thoughts anyone? (In case you read my other posts today, I am en route to Milan airport with the injured Mrs C and sprogs in tow)
23. Will be heading back to UK today. Unfortunately Mrs C had a bad fall yesterday and ruptured her knee ligaments in one leg, meaning she is on crutches and in much discomfort. Worse still she will not be able to drive or ride horses (her favourite activity, equivalent to my playing bass) for six weeks :-( And no, I'm not making this up for the purposes of this thread Back on topic, the Moses sounds interesting Bob. If the foam plugs don't do the trick on my DB, then this looks my most likely route.
24. Pete, did you enter the gigs into the BassChat calendar? I set up a thread about this (its one of the pinned ones in the Gigs section). If you enter you gigs, all gigs in the next 5 days appear automatically at the bottom eof the BassChat home page, just below birthdays. For example if you scroll down you'll see Nigel/silddx' band Krupa are playing today.
25.
Clarky, that's very magnanimous of you. But the JR is promised to you and I won't go back on my word just to make a sale. If Mike really wants it, he can always buy a J-Retro. I'll fit it for him too.
Only trying to help you bag that Warwick, mate! In any case, it wouldn't be going back on your word AFAIC But let's leave things as they are then - I think the J-Retro will sound awesome on my Bacchus Jazz..
