1. That'll take my 13" macbook pro suitably protected, plus bits and pieces such as clip on tuners, a few books, pencil case etc. I recently bought a Mono Vertigo gig bag, which is great. I love the unzip along the top and drop the bass in thing, and it's nice and sleek. It does lack somewhat in the stowage area though. I considered the Mono Tick add on, but it's actually too big for what I need, and spoils the sleekness of the gig bag. I travel by train a lot, and the bag needs to fit on the overhead luggage rack, which aren't particularly roomy on Virgin trains. So I'm now considering changing the messenger bag that I currently use. It's a cool bag, but only really has room for the macbook and a couple of books. No room for other stuff .

SOld.

Still, still available .
3. There's the inherent sound of the instrument, then there's the sound of the notes that you produce. Your fingers aren't exactly the same as everyone else's, they will exert different pressure on the string, stay with the string a little longer or shorter before letting go. Right and left hand nuances will make a difference as to the sound that comes from the speakers. It'd be interesting to here a recording of 2 different people playing the same piece on the same bass. I'm guessing that you would hear the inherent instruments sound, but there would be an amazing difference still in the sound of the notes.
4. Now that is cool , never noticed the link in your signature before. Floyd are one of my favourite bands.
5.
I'm after something compact with more balls I just can't figure the acme out I would if I kept it I'd like add another cab but have not clue what to add cab wise I like my ashdown 414t but it's just to heavy me plus if I added a second cab would it damage the acme?
It's the amp that you'd have to watch. If you added another 4 ohm cab then you'd need an amp that'd do 2 ohms.
6.
Hi Can you explain the two controls on the back plate,as the web site does not mention them,Thanks Rich
The Acme really is the ultimate cab (in my opinion), I really only sold mine because I needed something I could carry on the train and the tube. The 2 controls on the rear are attenuators for the mid range driver and the hi range tweeter. You can basically adjust the levels of each to 'tune' the cab so that it sounds how you want it to. Set at 2 o'clock and 5 o'clock the cab is essentially flat. It reproduces low notes better than any cab I've ever heard or played through, hence the name 'low B'. There's a lot of stuff said about Acme's that they need a lot of power, and are insensitive. The reality though is that the designer is just a bit more honest with his specs than most other designers, he tells you what the specs actually are, other's tell you what they would like them to be on their products. I used my 4 ohm cab with both a Markbass LM2 and an ATS head, both were plenty loud enough.
7. Thanks guys, I'll experiment with what you've suggested.
8. I want to put an effect on all the tracks briefly, just for one bar, how do I do that ? Without automating every individual track, is there a way ?
9.
I got one of these two weeks ago - amazing cabs!
I sold one of these 2 weeks ago, I'll 2nd that comment, truly amazing cabs , I only sold mine for something tube transportable
10.
Hmm thats an interesting one. I really like Status half rounds straight out of the box but wasn't as impressed with the flats. Since then I have found Status round wounds take a long time to play in but once there they are great. Maybe I didn't give their flats enough time to settle down. I'll have to dig them out and try them again.
Their flats seem to have improved. I tried a set a few years ago and wasn't too impressed, they were dead out of the packet. I needed a 6 string set though, and there's not a lot of choice, so gambled a bit on them, but I really quite like them.
11. I have a Markbass LM3 and a Markbass NY121 cab. I've travelled with them and my bass on the tube across London, and onto a train to Birmingham. Very easy to carry, the cab stowed away in the little luggage bit in the carriage and the amp went overhead with my bass and other bag. Extremely light and compact, and easily loud enough for an average sized gig.
12. And you working in probably the best bass shop in the UK . I've never heard of them, but I'm guessing you can't go wrong really, if you pay by Paypal the you'll get your money back, if you pay by credit card you'll get your money back . Ireland's an EU country so there's no customs charges, unlike with the circle K strings I just bought , I was charged £8 handling fee by Royal mail !
13. Try a few, that's my advice. Strings make a huge difference too, maybe more so than on fretted basses. I've had my fretless for about a month, and I've settled on flat wound strings, they just give me the sound I'm after. Pino plays a fretless Stingray, Mick Khan a Wal, both quite mid/low mid heavy basses. Maybe something by Yamaha or Warwick ?
14.
I'm waiting for a huge stone ball to come rolling into view...
You beat me to it !
15. Raiders of the lost ark themed fancy dress party ?
16.
possibly because its a softer wood, so can be easily dinged. Companies usually use a hard laquer/paint as to rectify this. Like the Bongo. thats made out of basswood.
Didn't know that. I know the Ibanez Gary Willis basses are basswood. That's 2 things I've learned from this thread . Beautiful looking bass by the way .
17.
I have used flats on my Status S2 fretless and that has a lovely warm full bodied tone. Having said that it has rounds on it at the moment. Flats on a wooden board I am not so keen on.
Yeah, I agree with that. Michael Manring uses Zon basses with phenolic fretboards and light gauge round wound strings, I find his playing and phrasing incredible, but his tone doesn't quite work for me.
18.
I'm with you on that. I've never quite understood why you'd want to put conventional flats on a fretless. P
I think it sounds really nice, you still get the mwah but it's just a little mellower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_R5_iVxZk It may be down to the bass though, Steve's is a graphite necked Modulus, my fretless has a Dyamond wood fretboard, so it's incredibly hard. Maybe with rosewood or ebony you'd lose some of the sound.
19. I didn't realise the dark part of the bass was painted, I always thought it was some sort of darker wood facing. I'd love a Fodera, it'd have to be a 6 string Matt Garrison model. Real players basses, do get marks, not clumsy knocked about marks from drunken gigs down the pub, but swirls and finger nail wear. Ken Smith basses are very prone where the players thumb wears away the finish from resting on the body. I remember seeing photos of Stanley Clarke's brown Alembic bass. You should see my one tutors cello, where she's been playing it with a pick in a contemporary classical orchestra.
