1.
This made me smile. My guess is that you haven't really listened to the top 40 for a few years. Of course, You're correct - you'd be lucky to come up with anything with fretless bass on it. You'd also be lucky to come up with anything with a fretted bass on it. In fact, you'd be lucky to come up with anything that wasn't played by a machine.
As shown by the recent songs I've had to learn at uni with low C's , Rihanna's kisses don't lie for example.
 2. Ibanez do several fretless models, there's the Gary Willis model that's excellent value for money, and they do their SR and BTB models in fretless variants.
 3. I don't think they are dated, just a bit 'niche'. Off the top of my head here are a few fretless players - Alain Caron Gary Willis Steve Lawson Michael Manring Lorenzo Feliciati Robin Zielhorst - Exivious Sean Malone - Cynic
 4. I spent months advertising on here and Facebook for a fretless 6, I had just 3 offers in that time. I did eventually find something I like though, so worth the wait in the end. Maybe get something made ?
 5. It'd have to be tied into a click or something that the drummer is gonna use.

 7.
I've build two singlecuts for myself. And a third is under construction. (A build diary can be read here)
I like that fretless !
 8.
Which size ones did you buy?
Large, they said they'd be the right size.
 9.
I was looking for some stacked knobs and was pointed in the direction of Axesrus - they do large or small bore, if you know which you need. http://www.axesrus.c...Misc-s/1945.htm
Just ordered some from here, £3.25 .

The initial preamp is a fair bit cheaper, but then you add on the wiring harness it comes to about £120.
 11. Steve Lawson is in Birmingham, he taught me for a couple of years. I'm in Birmingham from Thursday to Monday night too, I'm halfway through year 2 of my music degree at uni in London, and have taught previously.
 12.
East pres come with knobs don't they, the ones I bought did, you specify the colour when ordering. If you got one without knobs the cost of them would be deducted by John, no?
Not the one I've ordered. 14. Anyone know where you can get black stacked ones from ? John East won't have them in until the end of the month, so it looks like I'm gonna be using my new bass with a new East preamp but without any knobs. Bass direct have them on their site, but at double the price that John sells them for, £9.60 each !!!!!! Gotta say I personally think if you're spending that sort of money then knobs should come included.
 15. I think some people are more suited to windows and android based things, and others are more in tune with Apple based things. I can never work windows PC's, or android phones, they just don't seem 'right' to my mind. Apple stuff though just seems intuitive to me. My one brother is totally the opposite and hates Mac's and iPhones.
 16.
Put the new live album by Rush -Clockwork angels into itunes. 'Get Album Artwork' Can I f@@k!@! Totally useless
Click get info, open safari go onto amazon and drag the photo of the artwork onto the blank space in iTunes.
 17. This was on Talkbass a few weeks ago. It wasn't a lot of money that they owed either, just cash-flow meaning they couldn't meet their commitments. Does possibly mean my mint Q6 will appreciate over the coming years. Very sad though, cos I'd have like a fretless Q6 to go with it.
 18. I approach difficult bits by breaking them down, pencil through the bar breaking the phrase into single beats, so you can see what's going on. Agree if I have to actually sight read a part never seen before (rare), I'd maybe play something appropriate, much better than messing it up.
 19. Is it definitely just the jack plug ? I'm officially dangerous with a soldering iron, but I know someone who's an expert with one .
 20. He seems like a really nice guy, and is very serious about his teaching. He's also a great player.
 21.
Just modified this post instead of creating a new topic about working out rhythms
Have you got Sibelius ? It can be really useful for working complex notated rhythms that you have to play. Just enter the part in and it'll play it back to you.
 22.
gulp
It has dots on 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 etc. It's really not as intimidating as you'd think to be honest.
 23.
sure, that's the next step. what did you buy out of interest?
This beauty .
