1.
Hi Ambient I've been really pleased with Fender's roundwound strings after years of other brands, and although I'm new to flats theirs seem nice to me. The thread is a bit of a naff green though, but then I hate thread of any description on my strings - I'd much rather have them bare as nature intended :-)
Thanks , see if I can track down a set.
2. I've tried gauges like that before, and they never felt right somehow. A huge B and normal gauge other strings. That's what puts me off buying a 6 string set of Thomastik flats (and the price).
3. I only use a 120 B string, sounds fine and isn't at all floppy.
4. I fell in love with one of these basses when I was about 12 and my Mom bought me a copy of Stanley Clarkes 'if this bass could only talk'. There's a photo of Stanley's in the liner notes, and it's such an amazing looking bass.
5.
I was at the Manchester Apollo gig on Thursday. I thought the sound was great, the band looked like they were enjoying themselves, particularly Mangini and Rudess who looked to be having great fun mooning to the cameras positioned around them and yes JM was audible in the mix although I think he fluffed the tapped section in Metropolis. My big gripe from the gig? We took our seats in the middle of the stalls a couple of rows behind the desk and to the left with a lovely view of a large yellow platform containing the pre-show projector screen, which was about the size of a small fridge and a large movie camera mounted on a tripod. Admittedly there was a sign saying the platform would be moved once the show started. Ok fair enough but then they stuck a huge chair for the camera op to sit in. Had we stayed in our allocated seats we would have had a crap view. The security guy pointed a couple of empty rows a little further back and a little further left where we could relocate to. We did so and had a great view. This brings me to gripe number 2: I'm thoroughly pissed off with people who go to a gig and then spend most of it videoing the gig with their smartphones . I don't mind the odd photograph now and again, I do this myself, but to spend large parts of a gig taking video and spoiling the view of those around just really gets my goat. There was even a guy doing it at Nearly Dan last night. And don't get me started on the twonks who hold conversations through most of a gig ........... .
I don't see the point in videoing gigs with a smart phone, what're you actually gonna hear recorded through such a piddling little microphone ? I'm guessing people who talk all the way through the show are there as some entertainment package or something. I remember going to see a gig at Ronnie Scott's, the place was full of guys in suits, all talking throughout the show, it's corporate entertainment .

7. It's very good. Yes, both TAB and proper notation.
8. I'm thinking of trying flats on my fretless, I preferred round wounds to the half wounds. Anyone recommend some light gauge flats ?

11. For sale or trade is my most excellent Acme Low B2 cab. This is an amazing cab, goes lower than any other cab, and sounds clearer than any other. It's what the Barefaced cabs are based on I believe. It is in excellent condition. Here's the spec from the Acme website - Model: Acme Low B-2 Series II Frequency response: /-3 dB 41Hz to 22 kHz -6 dB at 31 Hz Power Handling: 350 Watts RMS continuous 300 Watts sine wave @ 30.87 Hz Sensitivity: 93 dB 1W/1M Impedance: Available in 4 or 8 ohms Dimensions: 23"H x 15.75"W x 16.5"D Weight: 50 lbs / 23.2 kg This is a 4 ohm version. 12. I really don't see the problem. If like everyone is saying the new Indonesian built ones sound the same and use the same components, then so what ? Surely it's better to still have Markbass building quality and good sounding amps, than for them to maybe go the same way as Modulus basses ?
13. Modern double sided sticky tape is very strong should be suitable. Just make sure you warm it before trying to remove whatever you end up sticking on, use a gentle heat from a hair dryer or something.

16.
This is the neck of my fretless bass. It works for me.
Nice ! That's a good idea, just having little lines, and probably all you can see anyway if the board was completely lined.

18.
Did they fit and what do you think of them (might need to order a set shortly)?
Hi, Sorry I only just saw this. I don't know, John found one. If you want to PM me your address you can have it, I haven't even opened it.
19. Re-advertise, and get number 1 back for a few more rehearsals. Explain to him that he's currently your choice to join, but you want to (at the moment), leave your options open to see how it works out. That will - 1) Give him time to practice more, and get his playing chops back up. 2) Give you chance to see that he can play to the standard you want. 3) Give you and maybe him a get out option if it's not working, plus hopefully you'll have had some more people contact you.
20. I really like brass band music, when it's not cliched anyway. I've often though that this is beautiful, it's the black dyke brass band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLkjg7tBL5A&feature=kp
21. Having never actually played a lined fretless, can you actually see the lines ?
