1.
Im glad about that...I hate competition.
Same here. Just glad you're at the other side of the country!
2. Have a look in the "For Sale" section. There's a few.
3. I think if you're splitting it, you need to add some extra power as the CV is ± 5v. So for splitting, you'll either need to build a patch mixer or get one of these... Sorry for the GAS injection.
4. I'd been trying to find out about doing this. I asked on the Moog forum if a Y splitter would work if I wanted to control 2 parameters by the same amount, but no one seemed to know. Someone did say about getting a bunch of jacks & making a CV patchbay & powering it, but I couldn't find a schematic. I think what you're wanting to do should work. Send James at BOP an email & he'll let you know. My singer has had a few things made from him & is very happy with his stuff.
5.
I'm pretty sure I read his mam was classically trained and immersed him in music
I thought it was water that he got immersed in?
6. It depends on what you want to do. I'd have a look at the Soundblox BEF Pro with the Hothand for doing wah & dubstep, or if you're wanting something for those texture things (and dubstep, techno or DnB) have a look at the Moog MF-101 (there's one for sale on here with an EP2). If you want to hear the Moog, have a listen to some of my stuff here or here. The pedals you've mentioned all appear to be very good too.
7. Talent isn't inherited, it's hard work being cool & knowing how to pull!
8. The Murf can get some very unusual fx. I hardly ever use it for it's sequencer, but love it for the filters & LFO setting. The bassline is part of a collaborated project on a Facebook page called Organic Bass Wobble. One of the members there posted a beat & is going to do all the editing & mixing (with a video too). I was trying to add you to the page, but my FB knowledge is limited & don't know if it's only admin that can do it. Here's another from the same... http://soundcloud.com/bassg/gjobwbass3
9. Here's one of the noises I get when using everything on it... http://soundcloud.com/bassg/gjobwbass1
10. The 6 pointed star things (torx bolts) are usually found inside cars. I used to install car A/V & alarms some 10 years ago & this wee tub was always getting used (& still does). Edited to keep this in topic..... http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/386137_303234506362156_100000268266350_1181411_1185867691_n.jpg Poor quality iPhone photo & can't get it to post properly (it's on facebook).
11. I see you've got one of those blue rubber things. Best £4 I've spent! Never thought I'd use Torx bits so often.
12.
Thats quite a shift IMO from a grand budget to a Dingwall, even the Mayones are 25% over the budget! I liked the Laklands I tried all within a bag of sand ps- Obviously a used Stingray is the correct answer anyway
2nd hand should fit his budget though.
13. I'd go for this.... Stagelight! Transferrable between basses (& other instruments) too!
14.
But what other basses on that mark would you recommend?
I'd get my butt to somewhere like Bass Direct & try some Dingwalls (I tried one about 7 years ago in Vegas & wanted one then) & also Mayones & Shuker look like top contenders in the £1000-1500 bracket. Edited to say, How can I forget about the top end Ibanez basses! If you can find a good SR, give it a try.
15. I could do with a couple more EPs too! Now, what could I do with 2 101s?
16. Well, it's good to know these things.
17. Those links above should give you a good insight. Simply put, it's mainly down to how well the cab is tuned for the driver as different drivers require differently tuned cabs (port size, internal dimentions, etc) & then there's what kind of material the cab is made of & so on.
18. Clauster has a good point. I prefer the Corvette's shape to any of the Fenders, but all have good (but different) sounds. I personally wouldn't go for any, as I think there are many better basses for around the £1k mark, But it's all down to personal taste. Like ALG says, let your ears decide.
19. Welcome to BC. If there's anything you need to know, I'm sure you'll find the answer here.
20. & try your local Crack Converters & their website.
21. Welcome to BC. I'm afraid you won't find many humans on here, though you may meet a few Yorkshiremen!
22. Vote? I'm a bassist. I don't vote! OK, go on then. Just this once..... I don't know, can we have multiple choice?
23. Sorry JTUK, it's not down to the instrument they play, it's down to the person having a different taste (which might be crap taste) or just being a tw@. I started life as a keys player, but love all sounds that are good from the lowest rumble to the highest squeal. Or maybe I was really a bassist before ever picking up a bass?
24.
But by your definition, is Bryan Beller is not a good bass player then??
Far from it. He learned his mistake from losing the 1st Vai gig & managed to adapt to get the right sounds needed. He can now happily switch from getting a rounded bass tone (that's associated with fingerstyle) to a more sharp aggressive tone very easily just by how he plays. I wasn't disagreeing with your advice given, more like the opposite. A bassist should always know that his sound/style affects the groove of the song & he should be willing to use whatever technique he can to make sure it fits. Whether that means adapting his fingerstyle like Beller does or uses a pick or some other object makes no difference. See when you say Beller "developed" that technique, do you mean he actually came up with it or just learned how to do it? I grew up listening to Sheehan in the late 80s with Talas & he had a very aggressive tone back then.
25. I don't think I can add much to what's been said, other than listen to the song you're playing & decide what's gonna sound best for it. A good bass player will happily switch how he plays, even mid song. I mainly play with fingers & it's what I prefer, but we have a couple of songs that just need the pick & even one with some slapping (though that's usually the guitarist for noodling during a slow vocal part).
