ta never mind the effects im distracted by the music page now
Welcome to the world of effects. Your bass will never be the same again!
I would of thought that what you are hearing is the envelope being exploited more as the chorus sweeps a higher frequency range. If you have dirt on you'll have more top end harmonics, which will be amplified in the higher frequencies by the chorus. The envelope in the LPF will be heard in those high peaks as the modulation sweeps up. The envelope amount won't be moving, but th sweep of the chorus is making more of that envelope audible. I may be wrong... But that'd be my explanation
You might be right, but it's when I open the envelope follower. If the chorus is on quite strong, it affects the Wah effect. I'll record it sometime & you can see what you think. I've also had the Murf do unusual stuff with the envelope on it when I had things routed differently.

The Berhinger di pedal is supposed to be really good (almost as good as a sansamp).

Finally got time to actually read that whole interview with Jarman. Quality stuff. Hope they get over here some time soon.
No rules - chuck them all out. What works for you might not work for others. Effects respond so different in different orders so you need to move them around to find the sounds you love. There are practical restrictions, like old analogue octavers will basically track sod all after modulation or heavy dirt, so you're limited as to where they 'will work'. Failing that go mad! Thanks for sharing the link dude! Glad you like it!! Shep
It's a brilliant site you've got there & I'm happy to point anyone to it.. On a side note, I've noticed that some effects can respond to what's after them as well as what's before them (Moogers being prime examples). I've noticed that depending what pedals I have turned on, the chorus that's after the LPF can affect the envelope amount. Weird!

Very nice. I like the different string sections.

Like simwells says, there's no rules. However, Shep's blog might be of interest to you... http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/category/signal-chain-bassics

From the sounds of it, what you need is a Low Pass Filter with a pedal. I use a Moog MF101 with a pedal (pedal is about £30). The Source Audio BEF with a hotHand might be of interest to you?

Vintage AC30 Guitar Amp
Don't mock this amp for bass. A '74 AC30 I recently sold sounded huge with my Wal through it. Not loud enough by today's standards, but capable all the same. D.
My point is if you're playing in a band & want bass, this isn't gonna get you there. I suppose you could disconnect the internal speakers & stick the amp through a decent bass cab. I know it doesn't lack volume as a guitar combo as one of my previous bandmates has one & whatever gu****r he popped through it sounded awesome. -
They're really rather good. Those 1st couple of tracks sound very 80s in a good way. A little like Thomas Dolby perhaps.

Maybe a good laptop with some good software & VST fx connected to a midi/usb foot controller? Would probably be dearer than most fx boards when you include the cost of a reliable solid lappy, the daw & VSTis, the interface & the controller, but latency shouldn't be an issue with today's technology & you could make patches, link it to the band for syncing & even make fully evolving soundscapes. But, would it sound as good as stompboxes???
-
I'm in full agreement. I've no idea why none of the multi fx companies don't allow for splitting & summing within the box & the addition of a couple of patchable loops would be a brilliant idea. Maybe worth contacting someone from Zoom or Line 6 (Source Audio are a digital fx co who'd listen, but they don't make multi fx).
-
Why not use the best of both? The things that multi's do best are usually chained. Look at it as a box that contains 3-4 pedals.
-
I like that. Maybe needs a bit better EQing/panning on the sounds, but it has a sad Autumn feel about it. It sounds like part of a film score. Infact, come to think of it, so do the other entries! Well if there's any film makers on here, there's a film to be made with the entries.

Cheers Bilbo.

I'd maybe look at one of the 1x10" or 1x12" combos from the likes of Markbass, Genz Benz, Ibanez & so on. Then if at a later date you need more power for gigging, you can add another cab. If you're not planning on gigging at all & just want for in the house, then you wouldn't need to spend more than a couple of hundred.

OK here's my entry. I haven't got monitors to master on, so it was done using a set of earphones. The bass was played & recorded live & no editing done (what you hear is how it came out the amp). http://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/late-summer

Liking the tracks so far. I'm uploading what I've managed to get done.

running an 8 ohm and a 4 ohm cab into an ampeg PF-500...hmmm safe?

If you like the sound of your 15, why not get another 15? -
My suggestion would be to find a shop that stocks a few different rigs & take your bass along. One person's perfect sound is another's worst. Patitucci uses Aguilar rigs & East uses TC Electronic rigs. I think both them use a Yamaha bass. So it's down to your budget & what you like. Both them also use pedals to further tailor their sound.
-
A trumpet player would be good. I can understand wanting to be in a band rather than in a bedroom, but they're already in bands!? I agree that a bit of rock mixed in would work. New age electro ceilidh? That could be interesting.

I've been in a few different bands over the years (decades). I've played Rock, Metal, Punk, Country, Folk, Blues & loads of other stuff. Now that my most recent band seems to be out of reach for me to remain a member of, I'm trying to start up a new band/project to play electronica/breakbeat/house/drum n' bass/dubstep etc. A couple of days ago I put an advert on the company forum & also in the vending areas on my floor that just said "Musicians Wanted", what my plan is & how to get me. So far 3 guitarists have been in touch! All nice guys that I know, but 2 of them I have no idea why??? One of them was in my team before moving to a different team. When he was in my team he said "I like all sorts of music except Drum n Bass, Dubstep & any of that electronic beepy stuff", the sort of stuff I'm wanting to do. So why the heck does he want to join this project? The other is in a typical guitar baised rock band & has 2 effects pedals, an overdrive & a distortion. He likes his Marshall rig set at 11. He said "I could just get a wah pedal & that'll cover the funk & soul sort of stuff". I don't think he gets it at all. The other one I think he might be a good candidate though from the musical taste side. But I've no idea what his playing is like. So I'll give him an audition. Just thought I'd share my musical adventures & I'll keep updating this to see if things go to plan.
