1. White one looks good & black crushed pearl sounds good too. Choices eh!
2.
I've not started mine yet but I'm starting of thinking along the lines of an epic/fantasy type score
I'm thinking Happy Hardcore myself.
3. I'm with BRX in the fact that it really depends on the type of music & what instruments you're playing with. Some of our songs you could use almost any bass tone (with or without effects), others just don't sit right if you don't make it more specific (eg: played with a pick, fingers & top rolled off or some effects).
4.
Relate...ish it's basically the idea of writing to a subject but that seemed like a much harder contraint when a picture has all the relevant information there. Have fun with it
So hazy water with trees. Might be an idea to pop a link to this in OT or General discussion for those who don't scroll down the forum often?
5. Has the song got to relate to the pic? I'll try & see what I can do.
6. Well wood isn't far away from yellow, so maybe a subtle blueish might go? Maybe you should pop a pic of your bass with the white scratchplate into photoshop & mess about with scratchplate colours. You can get wood dye if you do want it yellow. Not sure how it would look though, so maybe another thing to try in photoshop (or whatever you have to edit pics with).
7. I got most of my bits from these guys... http://www.rshelectronics.co.uk/ They was really helpful when I was trying to work out what I need. Maplin would probably be able to get all the bits too. A good place to go for more info is... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/78585-diy-effects/ I had a couple of hiccups during my build & got loads of help (as is the BC norm). I had an irritating buzz (was due to me getting a wire in the wrong place) and I couldn't get the LED to work (Again, my error. I didn't know LEDs had a + & - & wouldn't work if you put + to -, unlike a filament bulb). I've changed the knobs for ones that are similar to moog & old boss units.
8. You should give the MB rig a try in your full band. You might be well surprised.
9. You'd probably be as well to just hold on to it & sell or swap it if you get to a point where you need to.
10.
That looks cool man but I've just looked at that website and I've never been more confused my whole life...
There's some which are more simple to read than actual schematics on there. I used the "Passive Mixer" schematic which looks like this... You don't have to make it 3 channel. I just used the 2. Hope it helps?
11. How long have you had your cab? Might be worth having a word with where you bought it if recent.
12.
Thanks for the reply but that is my point I would have to buy two more 8 ohm cabs as if I had bought the 2x10 8 ohm cab I would have just had to buy the 1x15 8 ohm cab so I can't use the 2x10 cab I have got and just add another cab I will have to buy another two 8 ohm cabs?
I'd sell (or take back to shop & exchange) the 4Ω cab & get the 8Ω 2x10 & then you can add another 8Ω 2x10 when needed (or any other 8Ω cab). With your amp the most you can use is 1 4Ω cab or 2 8Ω cabs (or 4 16Ω cabs).
13. For what you're looking for, you could make one fairly easily (if you can solder). I made a simple Loop/Blend pedal. If you want schematics, this is a good place... http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/diy/index.php?dir=Schematics
14. That's a very nice grain. Any small marks can be sanded out quite easily & having the pick guard is handy if you can't get them all out. If you want to get an idea of what the wood will look like, wet it with a little water.
15.

Looks like potential for awesome soundscapes!
16. If they do, you could play awkward & tell them that they cannot use any of the parts that you wrote, including all the basslines.
17. Interesting list. Some of them are ex-drummers & not earned the majority from being a "drummer", a bit like having the richest Bassists & putting Randy Jackson or Johnny Depp on there.
18. Here's the thread from when I did mine. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/134250-changing-the-look-of-my-bass
19. Once you've got the majority off, get a selection of paper & work your way down. Maybe start with 70 grit, then 110, 160, 200, 250 & finish with a couple of good sands with 300 (or finer). Wetting the wood raises the grain, so depending how strong you want that grain to show is how early on you decide to wet the wood. You can either use a spray bottle, a wet rag to wipe it with, or "wet n' dry". If you're going for oil & wax, then you give the wood a heavyish coat of oil with a rag & then sand it into the wood with the fine paper, leave to dry & then do it again. Takes a week or two, depending on how oiled you want it & then leave it another couple of weeks to fully dry before waxing. It's easier to do & get a good finish than spraying is (unless you're already competent at spraying & have a place to spray).
20. If you liked the Ashdown sound, then maybe an ABM 210? This is also worth a look... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/183283-tc-electronic-2x10-cabinet-immaculate-condition-reduced-to-l190/
21. What's reasonably cheap in £s?
22. Ceruse FTW! I was gonna do it, but chickened out. Best place to sand is outside. It gets everywhere if you're doing it indoors & you end up with super thick snotters.
23. It takes a bit of time, but it's worth it. I started with 40 grit & worked through to a fine glass paper (I think it was around 300). Even if painting, it's worth doing all the sanding work so it's easy to get a good finish. It's not hard, just time consuming.
24. If you do go for a natural finish, may I suggest sanding in several coats of Danish Oil (about 10-20, depending) & then a couple of coats of Beeswax? Here's something I did... The bass used to be black. Looking forward to following your progress.
