1.
Indeed, I was slightly worried after posting, that you were gonna come back and say it was a picture of you, and what was my f'ing problem!!
I wish I would have thought of that!
2.
I can't cope with the orangeness of those two nuggets!!
You did ask for Orange folk!
3. A simple & cheap option would be to make your own 2 part pedal that 1st splits the signal so you can put your signals where you want & then the 2nd part would be a simple 3 channel mixer to source your signals back to one. Easy to make & fun too.
4. Can you solder?
5. I'd try stacking them both ways & see what sounds the best when you're not directly in front of them. Nice rig, matches your bass too!
6.
Yep, well done mate, and had we been using a different voting style, xgsjx would have been in my 2nd choice box. So you nearly got a vote mate.
Cheers Dave. Looking forward to this month's comp. More so to hear what everyone else composes.
7. Well done Skol, a worthy win against a load of excellent entries! I'm the only one who didn't get a vote. That means I need to put more of an effort in for this month!
8. I'd suggest a 2nd hand MarkBass LMII & a decent cab (such as that TC Phil mentions). There's tons of good stuff to be had 2nd hand
9. 1st thing..... IGNORE THE WATTS. Go & have a read in the amp & cabs forum for some clarification. I'd try a BF Midget with your Ibby amp & see if it's what you're looking for. Alex gives a 30 day trial & you can add a pre or a pedal if you don't want clean. I've giged with a single 12" cab in a 2 guitar rock band & it's been gigable. It really depends on the venue & what you're using.
10. I'm with Dr Dave. Most of the time my thumb is floating, but it will anchor onto a pickup or the E string without me even thinking about it to suit what I'm playing. It's hard to play slap with your thimb anchored though! Maybe a good thing.
11.
PS: genuinely stoked that I have 6 votes! Cheers folks, that's warmed my cockles on what is an otherwise crappy day
I don't think there's a bad track out of all the entries (which makes it a hard choice), but I think you have a very accomplished track that fits the theme well.
12. A large engineer's square?
13. Can you fiddle the votes? I'm gonna win the photo comp this month if you can!
14. ! Shocking!!!
15. I can only agree with what's been said. Top bloke & made me smile reading this.
16. Is it an unbiased review of blue & green LEDs?
17. Root 5th all the way. Dont stray & play Country! Wait a min.... I play a little Country & follow the vocal line (but with different notes). Have you thought about playing random notes from the scale? http://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/stars-guitars
18. Doesn't work for me either.
19. Hard choice! Gonna have to get a proper listen to all the entries & then vote. What a talented bunch.
20. Being self employed is a hard (but rewarding) job. I was a self employed signwriter for many years & only stopped because business got tough & vinyl stickers took a lot of business away. Yes I could have went into doing vinyl, but it wasn't something I wanted to do. But I know how much hard work is needed for little in the way of money. My other 1/2 has started her own business as a cake maker & when people who usually get their cakes from a normal baker's find out the cost of a cake, they at first can't understand why a single teir cake is @ £100, but when they compare what they get & the level of detail that goes into it, most are happy to go ahead. There's very little profit for the amount of work & cost of overheads, but the enjoyment is worth more than money.
21. IMO, no. Another 8 ohm TE 2x10 would be a good match. Took me taht long to write that, everyone knew what I was writing!
22. I've not tried either, but going on what folk are saying, if you want the GK sound, get the GK (a bit of "stating the obvious" for ya ). I'd go & try a few & see what you like. You might find you prefer the Ampeg to the GK, or maybe something different again. Try several amps is my only advice.
23. I know how you feel. I'm 41 & thanks to my youthful looks, I still get the odd 40 year old person trying to treat me like he's got more experience in music than I (he might well do, who knows? I've only been playing bass for @ 27 years & it's still my most recent instrument to learn). You're the one with the regular gigs, so look at the positives in getting treated like a noob. You can surprise them with your skills & if that doesn't do it, forget them.
24. If amps & cabs was rated on watts alone, then your maths would be correct. However, they're not & your TB1000 could blow the 1200 watt 8x10 fairly easily. Scenario: Amp is 1000 w at 4Ω & 650 w at 8Ω. At full tilt, that's what it's gonna put out regardless of the cabs attached. So 2 600w 8Ω cabs are gonna get 500w each at full waldy. What the cabs then do with that wattage is down to loads of different factors such as the excursion of the driver, how well the cab has been designed to get the most from the driver & so on. 2 4x10s or 2 1x15s will normally sound better than one of each. Hope that helps slightly?
