1. Rolling back the volume also changes the loading on the pickups and reduces the treble a bit. So if your liking your top end a lot a pedal might work better.
2. If the amp only has valves in the preamp however you can generally treat it like any other SS amp. Anyway I'm not aware of any amps with non-valve power sections that require a speaker load?
My thoughts exactly. I`d love one, but only if it were someone elses job to carry it. Actually, if that were the case, I`d have two!
Stairs are the biggest 8x10 nemesis. They roll around nicely, slide on and off stages nicely, go into trailers, vans and trucks easily. Of course some of this requires two people, but overall this can make ir easier than handling a normal weight combo or 4x10 on ones own.
4.
People do generally, normally, want a clean power amp. The preamp makes tthe difference- so sticking a different preamp before it isn't the stupidest thing.
Actually the power section distortion has as much or maybe more effect on a nice overdriven sound. So its not all the preamp. It's the whole package. Pedals like the VT work to emulate the power section being pushed as well as the pre and explains why its done so well.
5.
Like this?
I believe that's the Hot Rod Red like mine. I think the CAR models were only available through Fender Japan, not to be confused with "Crafted in Japan". So you'd have to have gone through someone like Ishibasi to import one.
6.
For me the jag has always been about the CAR
Those first gen. CAR w/matching head stocks were brilliant looking. Any one here have one?
7. Used MIM Fender Jazz should be easy to track down.
8. Finally!! I always felt strongly the first gen. models should have been an American Standard and a MIM or CIJ lines.
9.
Thanks guys. I was thinking of getting the deluxe and ripping the wiring out and putting standard jazz wiring back into it, getting rid of the noisy active circuit, making if effectively just a jazz with a wonky body.
The passive mode bypasses the active circuit so ripping out the electronics isn't necessary. Insufficient shielding was the problem with the noisy active electrics. And the first run models used ceramic instead of Alnico pickups, the MIJ Geddy basses did this also at that time, there's no good excuse for them doing that on basses at that price IMO. All in all though great overall bass design. They should have thought of this bass along time ago its such a natural evolutionary step from the Jazz.
10. 5w.....Solid State.....for bass? I could see 5watts for a tube bass amp, but SS, hmmm. Just looked it up. It's class AB, meaning tube amp I believe. It sure looks like it with all the venting built on top.

I think they're still made in Japan. The latest version has USA Vintage (Alnico) pickups which are much better than the 2006-2010 ceramic pups. I still wonder that Fender never thought of this bass a long time ago, it looks, sounds and feels like such a natural evolution from the Jazz.
12. Yea Hipshot are tip top, Gotoh Res-O-Lites are another top notch option.
13. Those heads are fab! And they sound equally great for bass, guitar, keys and vocals. Rich clean tone. Though it probably needs at least a cap job by now.
14. I would test it by drilling to see if you can clear the end of the truss rod.
15. ^^^ Those Bass Pod XT's are really brilliant once you get your head round them.
16.
And another
Lovely! Black -n- Red Tort just works!
17. Cool idea. FWIW you can drill the holes out a little on a BAII pretty easily. Finding one is the difficult part.
18.
I took the plunge on the 40 and love it. It's more than enough at home, and I figure between the 'underrated' power stage and the XLR out I'm covered if I need to go louder.
I'm really anxious to hear/read a comparison of the new Fender 40 and the Ampeg ba110??!!
19. You can use a compressor to help even things out plus bump the fundamental and/or secondary harmonic frequencies a bit, say 60hz or so up to around the 180hz range.
20. Ya let us know, I think there's a lot of interest in these because of the Class D and Genz Benz connection.
21. Ya, I think that so few people use an effects loop on a bass amp these days so its not a high priority.😕
22.
The new Rumble 40 seems a viable option but the lack of FX loop & being only 5 watts more, would it be loud enough?
Good question, being Class D however makes me curious as to whether it will give more clean output before giving up? The Ampegs sound nice but give up rather quickly.
23. I really like Ampegs little combos and the ba110 would probably work in low to moderate stage levels. But I'd look hard at the new Fender Rumble 40, it uses Class D power and has better features. And since aquiring Genz Benz should sound stellar.
