1. Wow cool basses. Those Jags look even cooler as a bass, I mean the guitars are nice but that shape and all switches just look like they would fit in at a '60,s era Auto-Rama show!
2. You can buy top quality mini-pots http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/CPCL25/CTS-25K-Long-Shaft-Audio-Taper-Guitar-Volume-Tone-Pot.html http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=330928228362 In your situation I would upgrade the pots to some nice mini's, clean up the wiring and either install a battery clip in the cavity or route for a separate battery compartment. I would lean towards the battery compartment myself they're so convenient. A picture of your electronics cavity would also help us layout your options.
3.
Yep totally with you there - and the more efficient those speakers are, the better. And a belated welcome to a US based bassist
My Gran was British and My Mother is Canadian, so I do have a bit of a connection.😏
4. Does it have a jack sized hole in the middle?

Of course it's been modded a bit like Fender CS '60's pickups etc. (the stock cheapie ceramic are unacceptable IMO) And I'd say it has more than three good settings, depends on how many music styles your playing.
6.
I used my LB30 with a BF S12 for several gigs in small/medium pubs without needing more, in a rock/pop covers band. I've also used the DI, but only needed a little injection into the PA at larger venues. I don't think a speaker level DI is needed - the LB30 DI is taken from it's own winding on the output transformer, so you get all the goodness. Cheers Geoff
Well there you go then! 2x12 for small gigs, Big one for medium gigs and the great built in DI for Big gigs.
7. Having a lot of efficiant speaker cone area is absolutely essential when gigging small amps unfortunately. An 8x10 or 2x15 with an Ampeg B-15 for example won't shake the rafters but can just hang in there pretty wellt. The best solutions are to either mic the amp. Or use a speaker level cabinet DI, which is inserted between the amps speaker jack and cabinet. Nice units like a Palmer 05 work beautifully, but others such a H&K Red Box are affordable and on the 4x12 setting work pretty well also.
8. Question: Does an onboard Preamp load the pickups differently than an outboard Preamp? I'm curious because I never like any active basses I try generally, but going through an outboard from a passive seems to retain the pickups raw passive character better. It may be that I'm just not liking the the specific pre's in most basses? Maybe I just need to rip the guts out of a VT Bass pre and throw it in a bass! Ha Ha!
9. Well done, its just lovely! Congrats.
10. I swap all the time. It takes me about 10 seconds without hurrying. I keep a wireless on my strap (but using a cable works the same) and just mute, unplug unhook strap locks, set down the bass then reverse order New bass! I can do it a lot faster if I want to as well. Using an A/B box would make things even quicker, probably 4-6 sec., at relaxed pace.

I thought I had posted this but didn't find it? Oh well, here we go go then. '01 MIM Jazz Fretless Added Clay Dots Neck width narrowed, 34mm nut Fender CS '60's pickups '60's Stack knob wiring Fender vintage threaded bridge Gotoh reverse tuners Fender pickup covers Fender Tort SP Rotosound TruBass 88 tapewound strings
12. I prefer passive EMG's. they combine growly, warm and punchy with a sweet hi-mid sizzle. And there is a raw woodyness that almost disappears with the actives.
13. I love Ampeg but the new Fender 6x10 Neo cabs are their best offering to date. Vintage voiced, lightweight, look great and they're efficient, what's not to love?
14.
Another P Bass with flats?
Or tapewounds!
15. If its under say 4.5kg I'd jump on it. Cool colour, blocks and binding, and those three bolt neck plates work fine.
16. You're correct, though I'm familiar with the Fender tone stack I wasn't sure in this case because of the different knobs. They read -5 to 0 to +5. So I think flat is at about -2 or -3 on both bass and treble.
17. Ok I figured out how to get some nice overdrive out of it finally. I just needed to push the front end harder. My passive P straight in couldn't do it by itself. So I ran it through my BassPod with a clean boosted setting and viola'! Another thing is I actually have to dial back the low end on it. I don't know if its the head or the 810? Of course this P bass has Fender '62 pups and Precision flats so the low mids are really pronounced. Now I just need to taylor some settings on the Pod for it.
18. Is the other bass Active? And/or does it have humbuckers? Just using big overwound humbuckers can have a lot more output than vintage voiced Jazz pickups.
19. If its active look for a trim pot in the circuitry. Or maybe the other bass is just overly hot? Just more to think about.
20. The secret magic when using the Bass Pods is to run them through full range cabs. The amp and cab sims were developed based on recorded samples of the various setups. So they basically recorded say an SVT/810 in a studio and went to work matching it up in a studio environment, with studio monitors etc. that's why if I run a Bass Pod "through" an SVT with say a VOX sim its not going to be accurate. But going from the Pod to a power amp to something like a nice PA cab or monitor will be much, much more accurate. I believe this is partly why people struggled with them. For that matter you will get a more accurate result with even the VT Bass units running them the same way. Ask anyone who's had to use their VT straight to a DI or Board and they'll tell you.
21. This is hands down the most versatile amp I've ever come across! Hooked it up to the Ampeg 810e it caught me by surprise, not until I had it maxed did my E string just start to break up. And no lack of low end. Used my Fender P w/Precision flats. It has a more even response across the frequency range than my Ampegs. More like running through a vintage high end studio pre CRANKED! AAANNNDD, it sounds sweet on guitar. Ran my old Tele through it to a 1x12 open back cab. Finally found my impedance adapter and hooked up a 57 to it through my old JBL PA rig, again it had that smooth warm studio texture. Having lots of fun. It's a '75 that was rarely used by a church and serviced about 12 or so years ago so its ready for new filter caps etc., so it should just get better. Still has all the original RCA tubes which are in good shape. I've read these are similar to Twins and Dual Showman's. And based on how clean and warm it is even when dimed I believe it. Oh and besides the reverb being top notch it's really quiet too. Here's a quick pic:
22. Funny thing is I've read that the paint shields a bit differently from the copper and that using both is really, really effective. It's something I'd like to try myself actually. Keep us updated.
23. Fender sells bodies and necks now. That's the way I would go. Better resale also.
24. The newest Bass Whammy coming out would be my choice. I have a POG and its a great pedal but more organ-like sounding than the Whammy's.
25. I've only got one sporting stripes
