Another D-class problem : want to replace my DB 751
bassmayhem replied to nonkel26's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well, if you can cope with a class D amp that weighs 5 kg/11 lbs, then try the Vanderkley Spartan. I use mine for everything... -

Well, you know... If Leo didn't do it that way, it ain't correct. Just ask the reactionists... 🤩🤩🤩 -
I had a Mighty Mite Jazz Bass once. It had a solid koa body and a maple P-bass neck. It felt very... convincing. I sold it many years ago to a friend who equipped it with a 70's Jazz neck, but the beauty got stolen a few years ago... 😥

Compared to the hollowbody beauty above, my short scale is somewhat simple, yet a nice piece of candy... Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI, I got it in a trade two days ago. Nice piece! Makes a fine contrastb to my other "real" basses...

I am looking for an amp bag for my Eden WT550. I don't want to rack mount it, neither in a hard rack or a rack bag, I want to keep the weight and size down. They are difficult to find nowadays, the Eden bags. No need for an original bag, some tips about other bags that fit the amp are welcome. If you have one for sale - or know where to find one - just send me a message.

Perfect "Preamp" for acoustic upright bass...
bassmayhem replied to bassmayhem's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Since I don't use a microphone, but just the LifeLine, I manage without the phase switch. Also, I do not encounter problems that have to be "notched out". I just roll off a bit of low end on either amp, and then go...- 13 replies

I took out the passive circuit from my Super P today and installed a Stellartone Tonstyler. I got hold of an old 16 click bass model; they are not made anymore. Just: WOW! This is how it should be... - First position is straight to the output jack, bypassing the filter. Crisp and crunchy! - Second position is like a regular tone pot fully open. - All others have a steep roll-off, leaving much meat and potato all the way up to where it cuts. No wet blanket syndrome... - The last position is all about the dub, but with a nice full and warm low mid, giving body to the tone. Here is a nice YouTube clip demoing... No going back!

Perfect "Preamp" for acoustic upright bass...
bassmayhem replied to bassmayhem's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Well, not really. It is a buffer that really "buffers up" the signal. You won't need a dedicated preamp for the upright bass. It is potent enough to send direct to mixer without DI-box. I rename the thread...- 13 replies

I have a super nice Bulgarian upright bass, a custom built - but not for me - instrument with some strange dimensions. The scale is 4/4, but the body is 3/4, built with massive tone wood. It is nothing short than huge. I had to get a new car to be able to transport it smoothly. Anyway, the bass is huge, the tone is huge. The instrument is built 2012, so I wonder how the tone will be in a hundred years when it is this big and full now... I've used a David Gage Realist on the bass, but it didn't work well. A lot of ugly "mid artifacts" that demanded heavy filtering to sound decent amplified. I sold the Realist and bought a Realist LifeLine and an adjustable bridge. The bass loved the LifeLine; it was the opposition to the Copperhead... I've used the bass with a Fishman Platinum Pro EQ/DI, and with my BasSwitch preamp, but when I got my little Quilter BassBlock 800 I could amplify the bass without preamp. Then I got a Vanderkley Spartan, and that one did NOT like the piezo pickup at all. The input impedance on the amp was a real mis-match to the LifeLine. Then my eye caught the little Redeemer Beltpack from Creation Audio Labs. It has an input impedance over 20 Mohms(!!!) making any pickup work well with any amp. I ordered one, and Lo and Behold! The tone is big and full. No gain problems. No need for eq-ing other than cutting some low bass. Best preamp I've ever used. So far the Beltpack isn't finally mounted on the tailpiece of the bass, I have to think a bit more before I get the proper design for the fastener. Anyway, the bass hasn't sounded petter amplified...

For sale is my super nice Dingwall Super J5 of the old now discontinued model, with the narrow pickups and "proper 70's bridge pickup placement". The new Super J's are not offered with the Fender type control plate and pick guard anymore. I find five Canadian Dingwall's being at least two too many, so I start with letting this beauty go. (I got one six string, two five strings and two four strings...) Only trade of interest is a five string graphite neck bass, Modulus, Zon or Status. More pictures on request by message/PM. The bass comes with the original Dingwall bag. It can be sold in a Hiscox case, but with a slight addition to the price. In that case(!) I keep the gigbag. Shipping on buyer's expense...
