1. I am in West London too - have a gig at the beginning of November, also happy to collect from Bluejay or meet after aqntbghd has used it.
2. Hi All, As a relative newbie to bass, I am still feeling my way around various styles of playing. However, I got to thinking about tone. The covers band that I play in play a variety of music; Motown, old rock and roll, heavy rock, funk, jazz and blues. My GK 1001 RB 2 and GK RBX 410 covers most of this, except the Jazz, motown and where an upright bass was used. My question is this; Do, I adjust my finger style to try and emulate those sounds and keep my rig simple, or should I bang in a couple of effects (like and EQ to get the jazzier and fatter tones?
3. Is this BT1 still for sale?
4. My debut on bass.....and I have never played bass live before. The set is a mixture of Rock, Rock and Roll, Motown and pop/funk covers Saturday 28th Sept...... **wipes brow
5. Bump - Still happy to post or meet (south East)
6. £90 the pair including the series splitter made by OBBM.
7. Open to trades for; 15" speaker, must be 8ohm and 400watts + or Effects pedals (Distortion, MXR micro amp, envelope filter, phaser- blah!)
8. Bump - price reduction: £100 including the series splitter or £50 each.
9. Monday morning bump: Price reduction to £120 (including the OBBM 1m cables and series splitter) a for both or £60 each. Can still post - courier is about £15 to £20.
10. Replied :-)
11. Basically these are old Peavey 210 TX shells loaded with Eminence Beta 10A drivers (http://www.eminence....?model=Beta_10A). I have removed the horns and crossovers from the cabs and cut some aluminium panels to cover the holes. The grills have been replaced too. The cabs run at 4 ohms each (2 x 8 ohm drivers wired in parallel) - However, OBBM (www.bassic-bits.co.uk) built me a box that will make the 2 x 4 ohm cabs look like a 1 x 8 ohm cab to an amp - a Series connection box. I will include the box and the OBBM 1 meter cables in the sale (Speakon to 1/4 in jack) and the amp connector - Speakon to Speakon (6 inch cable) The speakers are RMS rated at 250W per speaker making these cabs 500W cabs. The cabs weight about 15kg each - they are super light for the heavy construction of peavey cabs - probably because I removed the horns and crossovers! These were being used on my GK 1001RBii head and sound pretty good, quite jazzy and fat. My band are now playing a few bigger venues so, I have bought a GK 410 and GK 115 cabs for more power and projection. I will wrap up, for posting, but you will have to arrange your own courier collection or local pickup from North West London - Uxbridge area.
12. The band were booked into one if our regular gigs in Surrey. Get a phone call from the pub a few days before the gig, after weeks of fitting in rehearsals around holidays and work, stating that they are cancelling as it does not bring in enough cash for them. One of the band members lives near the pub and wondered by on the cancelled Friday night to hear a DJ and Karaoke..... Think we will bin chasing that gig again... The annoyance is that we have a raft if corporate events coming up which are surprisingly good earners - so it is not like we are sh*t!!!! Or do a sh*t set!
13. So, I am using 2 x 210 cabs with a series cable - the cabs are 4 ohms each, but zapped together by the cable box to make 8 ohms. Effectively a 4 x 10 @ 8 ohm. I am looking to add another cab and thinking about an 8 ohm 15" cab or possibly another 210, but running 8 ohm. Will this work? What would a 6x10 made of 210 cabs actually sound like?
14. **Guitars** Nearly all my Fender Strats have been modded.... Take a basic strat - any will do, although my preference is the Mexican road worn series - Thin layer of nitro paint. Add; Custom Shop 57/62 Pickups Heavy Steel trem block (There are several people that machine them up to spec) Heavy Strings, like 12's Optionally add a TBX - taste Optionally add an Eric Clapton +25db boost circuit - can be fitted in the standard pot rout. I used 2 guitars for years based on the above formula, one had the clapton boost and TBX tone control - the other just had the basic mods. Versatile guitars with allot of power. **Never modded a bass! My cabs are Peavey TX 210's with Eminence beta's and the horns removed.....if you class that as modding?!
15. On bass I would place myself as 'beginner', however on 6 string guitar I would class myself as advanced....but you can get away with more on guitar. The fingering on bass is so different and synchronizing the picking fingers to the notes on fast sections is a f*cker!
16. PM'd
17. Congrats fella, Same weight as my number 2.......7lbs 10oz.
18. 'Oi you kids!!!!!'
19. Zingzillas theme. Too Shy - Kajagoogoo....
20. My father in law has 3 from that list.....HOLY sh*t! He bought them all a very long time ago..... I thought his Firebird was rubbish!
21. My Stingray is ~1999. It has a fatneck, but is very light. I was taken with it as it has a birdseye maple neck, but i is not over the top..... I can't see why there would be huge differences in sound quality, but I am sure that feel and weight could be the difference between the pre EB and post EB models.
22. Right - Meeting went okay! No sacking, just appreciative of the time and effort I had put in and that we needed to form a gig plan! Bloody amazed! I am bloody stoked now!!!! And feel like a tw@t for starting this thread though!
23. This is true, it could be okay news, but a phone call would normally suffice. Not really a source of income..... It would be annoying more than anything; I like the guys allot, convenient rehearsal space to my pad, music I want to play....
24. Hi All, I am new to a band in a new area of the country, now playing bass; However, previously I have been playing guitar for ~25 years for bands and semi pro. As a guitar player, I was not too bad, I could improvise on request and come up with pretty much anything. I am a bit worried....The band I play for are good and very precise. Going from guitar to bass has been a steep learning curve and tough on the hands, but I am getting there, getting faster and more fluid. I am still grappling with bass and being more precise in my playing - with guitar you can get away with a few things. I am still learning their set, taking a little time as I have 2 kids, one of which is 10 weeks old, time is at a premium. I have until August to complete the set list; I am about 80% there, with a bit of tidying. I see no issues, I should be ready in time, however, 2 members of the band also have holiday before the gig, so rehearsal will be odd for 3 weeks or so. One of the band members wants to have a private meeting with me tonight to discuss stuff.......I am guessing that this is my marching orders....or the meeting that says, we are getting the old bass player back.... What do you think?
25.
Sorry but I couldnt find a relevant forum section to put this under, so please move it if necessary. I've been offered some work on a cruise ship, but the T&Cs state NO ALCOHOL WHAT SO EVER. And it is stated many many times. I cannot either bring it on board or buy it from the ships many bars. Now, I'm no alcoholic and never drink before or during a gig, but who doesnt like a nice cold beer after a long hot sweaty performance? I'm just wondering if anyone else whose done cruise ships can advise if this is the norm or not? Its just sounds so.....Nazi to me. Its a 2 week back to back job and I guess I could live without alcohol for this time, but its not going to make my stay anymore enjoyable. Yes, I know its WORK by the way. Anyone?
Lets put it this way, you are not gonna be steering the boat......
