2. Plugged it in when my wife went out; my god!!! What an array of different tones from a single pickup. I am now educated about pickup placement and how important it really is. A single twin coil pickup with a pre amp for each coil. Who came up with that craziness! I am loving it! at first I was not sure about the shape, the top horn looks slightly phallic, but it had grown on me and I think it looks great. The shape is certainly as beautiful as the favoured corvette and streamer. I am also more educated about neck material and how important it is on a bass. The neck is wenge, I think adds to the earthiness of the sound. A great sounding, flexible and simple to use bass with great balance and an exclusive look. The one I bought was on eBay, apparently ex Carrie Melbourne.
3. I bought a Fortress Masterman!! 1995 model!!! Not plugged it in yet, gotta hide from the wife...!
4. Yeah, I am fixated on the streamer double buck tbh.... I am straining at the bit even though I know it is overpriced! Thanks for the sales links, I may put a wanted up!
5. My bad!! Apologies! Can a mod delete this one?
6. Thanks guys, I will keep looking as I thought that ~ 1k was a bit high. Worst case, I will go with a corvette double buck!
7. Hi all, I am borrowing a warwick corvette bubinga standard - German built. However, I have seen a warwick streamer double buck for sale in a local store for £950. The bass played well, needed strings and a setup. There was the odd scrape and scratch, but nothing untoward for a well used bass. Anyway, questions; Is £950 too much for a streamer double buck secondhand? I am waiting for my house exchange, next week, and a bonus due in April. So, I am not in a hurry to buy, but are these rare enough for me to warrant buying it now? Anyone got any experience of tones and range of the double buck? It is a German built one. I think it is maple bodied - light coloured wood.

9. Marketing works on me......
10. Okay, slight counter point here; As a bloke, I feel it is my duty to collect, tweak and twiddle with stuff....In all facets of life: Bikes, music and so on - kinda like curiosity. So, while I am really happy for people to find their karma. My curious nature ask questions of my kit and the way I play. I am always looking for tips on how to play and get new sounds or do funky stuff. I am always changing my eq and trying a new sound, this leads to trying new basses, amps and accessories therein. But that's how we advance; by listening to, researching and watching others, getting influenced and being influential ourselves without really noticing. Once I have found what I am looking for, I am sure it will stay (pretty sure I am there right now!). As a guitar player, I stuck with the same setup for ~20 years with very little change, but I went through an awful lot of gear finding out where my sound and feel was.
11. May be up for this is my bonus comes through in April!
12. I will be moving that way in April.....Can I bring a 3 year old?!
13. I heard that Eddie Van Halen had copyrighted the 'candy stripe' colour scheme from his original Frankenstrat guitar. People who painted their guitars in tribute had auctions and so on stopped immediately. I think it really alienated some die hard fans....
14. The attitude does not make sense, I think that this thread shows that if you can very easily alienate your potential customer base. I won't say that Fender have encouraged the clones. Fender were smart enough to know that if a design is reliable, sounds good and accessible it will become iconic. Quite naturally we all will aspire to the brand, even though there are some great clones out there even made by Fender themselves! Will I ever buy a Squire Precision? Probably not. Squires are great instruments, no doubt, but they are not a Fender! I will save up a bit more for a Fender Precision though!
15. I am still adjusting to bass after guitar, I need to do more study and be more flexible before I face an audience. I don't want to be a root note wonder! When we move to West London, probably April time, I will start looking for a band.
16. Thinking about replacing the rather cumbersome bridge with something a little bit smaller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HARD-TAIL-BASS-GUITAR-BRIDGE-THROUGH-BODY-STRINGING-CHOICE-OF-FINISHES-CH-BK-GD-/190687139949?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item2c65d6d86d Also gives me the choice of string through or string over mounting. I would prefer a Badass 3, if only for the name......but they are like rocking horse sh*t to find and expensive!
17. Hi, would you do the EMG's split up? I only need one :-(
18. Isn't 'Bongo' a slang term for cheap pornography? 'As the wind gusted over the moors and fields, Johnathan, furled up in his winter coat, fought through the brambles and towering thistles in a vain effort to find his stash of Bongo'
19.
I also have a unfinished fleabass project on the go l will get some photos and a thread up for.
Please keep the thread updated with your progress and ideas! Looking cool!
20. Personally, I think the Fleabass original shape head is clumsy; hence some serous sander'age. All I did was draw out the rough shape and then use a rotary sander. I affixed the bass to a workmate bench. I also felt that the P bass style tuners just looked plain wrong! I wanted to use expensive Gotoh mini's, but they require a 14mm hole and are £32 - the bass is not really worth the cost of the tuners and the effort involved to fill and redrill IMHO. The tuners I bought, were these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190584089766 Next jobs:

Install pro bass stinger pre-amp (a pre'76 MM preamp clone) - will see how this sounds with the standard pickup
Rout for MM style humbucker - This may happen/may not happen, see above!
Install an MM humbucker (either EMG, Status, SD or Bartolini in mind!) - as above!
Fill and wrap headstock
Paint!
Then I will strip it and get junior to paint it. I am going with the 'see what she does and live with it' approach....an attempt to stimulate her creative flow, it will probably be pink.....I was going to try spin art or swirl painting it with junior; but each process is time consuming and messy. As we are about to move to West London in the next few weeks, I don't think I will get time to do this..... The headstock...I may wrap with carbon fibre....Not sure. Any advice on pickups would be appreciated! I am not 100% sure that I will re-rout the body, the bass is not really worth much. So, I may go with just fitting another soapbar. Essentially, I want something fun for junior to do/be involved in and a bass that I am happy to use for gigging that sounds okay and is not a bank breaker. I am also refurbishing my 2 Peavey tx 210 cabs. I have fitted them out with Eminence beta speakers (500w at 4ohm), they sound massive! The carpet and corners are all a bit tired. So, I will strip them down and get junior to paint the baffle boards! The cab shells I will just do black....
21. I did hear a rumour that birds-eye maple necks were less stable than standard maple necks....... This was from a Luthier, he still worked with the material, but always advised that tuning stability may be an issue.
22. Reshaped Head - Sort of Modulus/Musicman style....Easy completed with a B & D workmate and a rotary sander. The whole shebang.... Changed Tuners....Holes are 17mm, I could not be bothered to plug them with dowel and redrill for 14mm Gotoh tuners. Trying to keep the 'Machined professionally' look. Needs finishing with light sand paper....
23. Right; I have not done an awful lot of work on this one..... So, far, I have reshaped the headstock with an orbital sander to resemble a Modulus Head shape. I have also replaced the P bass style tuners for gotoh style tuners. As the tuner holes are 17mm, I could not go with Gotoh own brand as they use a 14mm hole and I did not fancy dowelling up and re-drilling the holes. I found some gotoh style tuners for 17mm hole on ebay - they look allot better IMHO. I will upload a pic asap. Next plan is to rout out the pickup area and change from a soapbar to an MM style pickup. I am also going to fit a side exit jack and a MM pre '76 pre amp - the MMpre-amp has 3 controls; Vol, bass and treble, so, I can re-use the vol and tone holes and the existing front exit jack socket for the pre amp pots. Once I have the basss configured and working, I will then strip it down and let junior do her thang,......probably in pink!
24. I would like some kind of beer glass holder.....perhaps some that is gyroscopic and stabilized.
25. I have no idea how you play guitar to Mark Kings basslines......really, I don't....
