What music did you or your wife walk down the ailse to?
Ok i think ive worked it out. This is me with the wife and inlaws!
Is your father in law Terry Pratchett's stunt double? **Lovely pic, by the way, many congrats -
A few years ago, I would be agreeing with you. As for now, I find him disappointing. Read the book; you will find that Neil Young is very focused on self marketing and marketing anything he is involved in. It seems very contrary to the rock and roll image he would like to portray. Fair enough in its own right, but don't be naive and think that NY is the epitome of musical freedom. He is still in it for the money and he is doing this album and tour to shore up the bank. Happy for people who wanna see it and be awed, most of the shows that I have seen have been very good.

Up for sale on the 'bay....

First tour with the horse in 10 years.... I think he did some shows over the states through 2008/9 - with the Harvest band. I saw him in 2005 I think...I am getting old though, so the memory is not great. Can you see what I am saying though? Had he not mentioned anything in the book, I would have no issue....but, it was so obvious what he was gonna do. And that does not feel very Neil young.
-
Aha - but he drags out the old favourites every time I have seen him play. He has done his share of sh*t records as any artist. I saw him on the 'are you passionate' tour; it was an awful show! Had I not read the passage in his own book about financial troubles and having to sell off land and bits of his Hawaii estate..,.i could be more sympathetic. But after reading his book, i thought; Here comes another crazy horse record and a tour to shore up the bank account....and...here we have another record and another tour to keep it rolling in. I must have seen Neil Young maybe 15 times over the last 22 years and I love the records. This recent episode has just let me down a bit, I thought he was better than that....had he made a new movie or something or gone into German Hardhouse music I would be more than supportive.
Wow... I couldn't disagree more.
Can you expand on why? This is why I think he is a bit of a sell out, quoting myself: 'After reading his *new* book 'Waging Heavy Peace' and reading the inferred 'money troubles' on his Hawaii home towards the end of the book, I kinda figured he would go back out on the road with 'The Horse'.' And he did go back out on the road with the horse, because he knew it would bring in a bit of cash....Call me old fashioned, but is that not leaning towards selling out - i.e. upkeep of second home in Hawaii?!

I have seen Neil Young on many occasions in the USA, Germany, Italy, Canada and the UK, I was lucky enough to see him being backed up by Pearl jam too. I have a mixed view on his shows; some have been absolutely brilliant; some shows have been rubbish where he is clearly doing it to pay the bills. The best song I have seen him do live; 'Borrowed Tune' solo piano....I think it is rare that he does this now. After reading his *new* book 'Waging Heavy Peace' and reading the inferred 'money troubles' on his Hawaii home towards the end of the book, I kinda figured he would go back out on the road with 'The Horse'. Crazy Horse are a terrible backing band, they slow down and speed up dramatically during songs, but for some reason, it works with Neil Young at the helm. Maybe I am being cynical, but I think that Neil Young has become a bit of a 'sell out' now.......But I would always counsel positively for going to a NY show!

The questions is; Is 212 the new 210? Noted that more manufacturers are selling a 212 variant and GK have even dropped the NEO 210 from their line in favour of the 212.
Interesting story, but I'd have gone for cabs that utilised good quality speakers in the first place.
That comes at a price. I was tempted to buy a set of GK NEO 210's to compliment my 1001RB ii, I may still do that in the future. But right now, I play pub gigs, weddings, a few 'events'. My gear is a bit beaten up and I would be gutted to spend the best part of a grand on a set of cabs that will get knocked about. I am happy with the current Peavey shells as I don't care too much about them and driver replacement/reconing the drivers I have bought is easy. The shells are pretty tough and well beaten and are a fraction of the cost of buying a similar spec cabinet. With some high end cabs, I always wonder what happens if you have driver issues; can you recone them or replace them like for like without hassle? At least with my cabs, I know exactly how to fix them, if I ever blow them up!

Mendelssohn's 'Wedding march' played by a string quartet.....not terribly inventive, but my wife wanted a white wedding. As for the entertainment, we had Elvis... -
I did a similar thing recently. I bought 2 old Peavey 210 TX shells, without the drivers. I purchased 4 x Eminence Beta 10" 8 ohm drivers (as I wanted 4 ohm cabs) and wham! Massive sound and huge punch. To improve weight and because I am a a non hi fidelity lover; I removed the crossovers and the horns. I have had shiny alloy plates made to cover the hole left from the crossover panel removal the the hor removal. Also replaced the grills with nice shiny grills from markie the grillman. **I hindsight, I wish I had gone with 8 ohm loading as 4 ohm limits my amp use...I have had a 'series' box made up by OBBM to deliver the 2 cabs in series to my GK1001rb ii amp.

Thanks guys, I was after a trade for an MM Stingray, but I am not sure - the Warwick seems to have more capability and a wider range of tones. I use an MM Sterling sub as a 'rough pub' bass (The California/USA version) that I got for a steal; £200....it is a good bass, but I think that the Warwick has more usability.
A German Fortress in fair condition should fetch around £350 to £400, I thought they stopped making the Fortress in the late 90's though?
Yes, I questioned Hans @ Warwick about the date of manufacture. Apparently, some were custom ordered, then the order was cancelled and the bass was just sold on as standard. Some were made from left of stock of production runs. Interestingly; my Masterman has the incorrect truss rod cover (states 'Warwick Fortress One') and an ABM adjustable nut. Which suggests that mine was made from leftover parts. I think that the ABM nut was only used on early models.

I am considering selling my Warwick Fortress Masterman.... but I do not know how to value it! There is not much information about them anywhere. Has anyone got an idea on value/valuations or what would be a good trade? or who I can ask?
Guess what gauge the wire in the voice coils of the speakers is.
Eeeeps! weeeny!
-
So, we all know that OBBM builds great quality 4mm conductor speaker hook up cables. However, if you cabinet is wired internally with 2.5mm cable, is there any point to the capacity of the external cable? Well asdie the quality and reliability, we have to consider resistivity of the cable..... The answer, of course, is to have the same cable capacity throughout as this will be defined by the power of your amp. 4mm conductor probably covers 99% of amps and hook ups....I am cool with this! So, internally, within the cab; what cable have people used to hook up the speakers to the jack/speakon, what size conductor? My cabs use the basic Peavey 2.5mm cable. As I use a 700W amp at 8ohm, this suggests ~11Amp. I think I need to change my internal hook ups! Anyone got any better views?
Well... that's odd! Not the part of LG or SF dying, that happens more often that we'd like to hear about it but happening to the same person with days of interval... humm... Could this be a case of a fault with your house's electric instalation? Were they plugged in to the same wall socket when they stopped working?
Sadly not - there is no linked issue between the amps. ** Both for sale in 'other' as fixer projects!
-
I quite like it, shape and finish wise - grown on me a bit. I like the idea of the sliding pickups, but I am not a tech or tone head enough to buy a bass for that feature.
-
You won't believe this; my Ashdown Superfly has now died! Won't power up!! Ffs; unreliable rubbish.....!
-
So, I have diagnosed the explosion of my Ashdown Little Giant 1000 amp. It is down to 2 capacitors that have expired, I have bought a better quality of capacitor at the correct values and intended to simply do a replacement job. However, the solder that has been used in the original construction is a special blend and needs a super hot iron to de-solder. My 'hobby' soldering iron is not man enough! Any ideas on how to desolder this or get this work done? It is suuch a simply job, but completely inhibited. **I got hold of Alto and Powersoft, they make the LG power amp, they will sell me one for £254. However, a complete brand new LG 1000 is £211 from Thomann - the caveat being that Ashdown are unable to service it and by definition it makes the warranty worthless. Any ideas anyone?
-
GK 1001RB ii on the 'bay' for £350.... Bugger. Now need a series cable for the cabs from OBBM and to sell my Ashdown Superfly and LG1000! Hoping that this is the final purchase!!!!!!!

Following on from the damaged WAL thread......

I use both my Warwick Fortress Masterman and a Stingray Sub (USA version). The Fortress is the main bass and used for the gigs where we know the crowd and the venue. The Sub is used for the places where it could get a bit rough. I only take 1 or the other. Although stuff is insured on the house insurance, I would be gutted if the Warwick got nicked. -
