1. As a former g*****ist; I under stand the frustration. I also understand the frustration of using open tuning and so on. As a now converted bass player, I say this; Guitar players can be utter tits about capo's and bizarre tuning. MTFU and barr with your finger or find another method of playing the chord without all the hullaballoo....I used to play in a band where the other guitar player basically used a capo as a way of 'making it easier'....it used to really f*ck with everyone else in the band, but he would not change his ways....I left the band quickly! **I have played guitar for 25 years and have never required the need for a capo and the only open tuning I have used is drop D and open G for slide acoustic and without bass.
2. Hi All, I was considering buying a 'normal' amp which would take 2 x 8 ohm cabs. I use 2 x 4 ohm cabs right now, so, I have 2 choices; Rewire the cabs for 16ohms each (Speakers in series) and then use both on the head to create an 8 ohm load Use a series cable to join together the 2 4ohm cabs to create 8 ohm load Which would be better? Any thoughts on running 16 ohm cabs?
3. Hi All, I have 2 x Peavey 210 TX cabs which have been loaded with Eminence Beta 10a Drivers - they are now 500w cabs at 4ohms. The cabs have had the crossovers removed and the horns removed as they were next to useless! They sound pretty fat and shift allot of air! I am looking for £150 each. I don't think that I can post the cabs, but local collection is okay in West London. **Used with Ashdown Superfly and Little Giant rigs - hence 4ohms each cab. OBBM can make up a cable so that the 2 cabs look like an 8ohm load to 'normal' monoblock amps. pics to follow when my iphone decides to spit them out! **Now Withdrawn**
4. Hi All, Right - A few project sales; Complete Fleabass in bits! Comes will all the parts and an upgraded musicman style pickup + a stinger preamp. The body is semi paint stripped and it needs putting together; the body is routed for the MM pickup: £100 the lot + postage 2 x Eminence Alpha 10a drivers @ 8ohm - £20 each + postage http://www.bluearan....de=manufacturer 1 x Broken Ashdown LG 1000 amplifier, 1 390uF capacitor has blown; I have a complete set of new caps to replace the whole lot; £80 1 x Broken Ashdown Superfly 500w amp, I think that a power cable of fuse has gone internally, but I do not have time to fix it: £50 (includes original box, bag, carry strap, casing and rack kit) I will photograph what I can this weekend.....but welcome enquiries. @Mods! I bought a lanyard!!! Pickup in wes London is possible too. For £225 you can have the lot! Thanks
5. Right - I have ordered a complete capacitor set for the amp and will replace all of them....hopefully it will fix the problem. A couple of the other capacitors look dodgy and a rwad up on the brand used suggests 'cheap and nasty'! I think I will be looking for a 'gigging' amp though. Possibly a Carvin BX1500 or a GK 1001RB ii....not sure which!
6. Hi All, Right my Ashdown LG has self destructed; One of the electrolytic capacitors has set fire to itself: 390uF 100v. So, I called Ashdown, there is nothing they can do as they have no more LG parts or modules in stock. Options

Replace capacitor, see if it works - however, I suspect that there is an underlying root cause as to why the capacitor has fried itself.
Get a Pro electronics enginer to diagnose and repair it - could be costly to diagnose and repair (labour charge) and may not fix all the issues - something else could then go wrong.
Buy a new amp!
**My new amp options are limited due to owning 2 x 4ohm cabs. I either need monoblock amp that will work down to 2 ohms or and dual block amp. I have 500w cabs, but would like to maintain a lightweight head. I could use a specific cable/box and build my cabs into a single 8 ohm load, but this would be a faff and as most amps operate full power a 4 ohms, it would be fruitless unless I buy and use another cab! I don't want to go down the preamp/power amp route. New Amps that I can think of (around the £500 mark) - I would like some headroom, so ~700watts. Hartke 1000 - okay, but limited features and 1/4 jack only, I would need new cables... Eden WT550 - Perfect, but never tried one Carvin BX1500 - Perfect, but not sure if it will growl enough I want the sound to be Gallien'ish, but with a but of Hifi in there too.... Ugh - and I just bought a bloody Musicman!
7. My Ashdown LG1000 blew up the other week - age I guess. However, Ashdown do not have anymore spare modules for this amp, so, technically it can not be repaired...... Bugger....
8. Looks like the sellar has not confirmed or changed mail address; I phoned google as advised on this thread - piece of cake, easy to get through to some one and sort out. Sellar has been advised and I am now awaiting his action so that I can pay him! IN other news, my Ashdown Little Giant blew up last night........anyone know a good tech in West London? :-(
9. I have an old account and the account seems to work okay - I think it is a problem with the sellers account, maybe a receive limit or something!
10. A bass on ebay. However, my paypal payment has gone into pending and is unclaimed at the other end...... The seller is saying that it says 'pending' at their end too. I have just paid for a load of stuff and used paypal today for other items, so, I don't think that the issue is related to my account. Anyone had these issues before? Does the seller need to verify their account or something?
11.
From the standpoint of not cooking the voice coils, true. But with only 3mm xmax they reach their mechanical limit in the lows at about 50 watts each, so any hint of farting out should be well heeded.
Hi Bill, Maybe you can aid me here; there are 2 params I was looking at when choosing the driver: xlim xmax On the Beta; Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax) 3mm Mechanical Limit (Xlim) 8.6mm On A specific High end bass driver; Eminence Legend B102: Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax) 3mm Mechanical Limit (Xlim) 8mm What I thought this meant was that the beta had more mechanical movement before excursion........i.e. 8.6 mm of mechanical movement versus 8mm mechanical movement in the b102. The 3mm was the excursion where the driver struggles, but will tolerate before damage occurs beyond the 8mm. Please correct me if I have this wrong; could you advise on a 'perfect' bass guitar driver and what you would expect to see as xmax and xlim?
12. Ampeg B2R through an ampeg classic 4 x 10 and a classic 1 x 15 - terrible sound, low volume, clipped and limited constantly during a rehearsal.
13. Many apologies for not making it, looked like a fun day. My second daughter was born the previous week and logistics became an 'issue'.
14. Thanks Lozz, TBH, I was more worried about rattling the cab to pieces if I wind up the volume! I think the speakers will be fine, but the shell may disintegrate!
15. So, after a stint of 2 weeks Paternity leave, I decided to remove the horns and crossovers from my Peavey TX 210 cabs.....As I have always had the horns on low to zero, it seemed stupid to keep them in the cab. I had 2 aluminium plates made up: 1 for the back plate/jack plate and 1 for the baffle where the horn was cut through. All I can say is; Result! 5kg lighter per cab and they sound pretty solid and fat. The cabs are loaded with Eminence Beta drivers, in fact I removed a set of Eminence Alpha drivers which I will put up for sale on the site. What sparked this annihilation? Well, I bought a 1000w Ashdown Little Giant.....and was going to update the Eminence Alpha drivers to cope anyway as they are 150watts each. OBBM is kindly providing some cables to make the rig happen. On another note - I am running; 500w per 210 cab....anyone see any issues with this?
16. Hi Phil, I am using Eminence Beta's in one cab (500w total) and Eminence Alpha's in the other cab (300w total). The cabs are old Peavey TX's that have been refurbished. I am thinking that the Delta's may give me more flexibility and I can make the cabs 8ohm instead of 4 ohm and use a wider range of amplifier...... Thoughts?
17. Hi All, I have a few 'big' gigs coming up and I feel that I *may* need a bit more power. I would like to keep my cabs, but I am prepared to switch out the speakers. So, Amplifier: Ashdown Superfly 500w - 2 x 250 @ 4 ohms. 2 x 210 cabs @ 4 ohms each - one cab is 300w and the other is 500w. So, I could buy an Ashdown Superfly 1000w and update the speakers to Eminence Delta's which would give me 750W 210 cabs @ 4ohm. I am happy to update the speaker to Deltas, however, will 210 cabs handle ~500w each? What Head options do I have - Was looking at a Genz Benz 12.2 Any ideas on portable high power heads?
18. I love my 500W Superfly. Nothing wrong with it, never let me down, loud enough for most gigs, portable and sounds great; though, admittedly, I use an expensive bass guitar. Growls on the lows and is clear on the highs - even our guitar player asked how such a big sound came out of something so little, he was impressed by the definition. **Never used the MAG or ABM heads, though I am tempted by an ABM 1K for the power!
19. Has anyone messed with this stuff? My idea is to refinish my project bass; I am gettig junior to paint it, but will be making a fixed scratch plate. The scratch plate will be a hessian coffee sack cut to shape and 'glued' to the guitar surface with resin (glass fibre resin to be exact) Anyone tried this or got any tips?
