1. Is it me or is the rotosound (swing bass) low be really crap? just fitted a new set, it is just dead...no tone at all. Anyone else got any experience with these or other sets?
2. Hi All, I will do some audio samples, if I can. I fitted coil tap switches for; North coil, humbucker, south coil for each pickup. With the East preamp the versatility has reached a new level! I can replicate my MM stingray almost exactly, switch to a Jazz and get Precision sounds with a bit of blend and a flick of a switch. Just install a set of on/off/on DPDT mini toggle switches; Green is the north coil/hot connection. Black and White should be joined together (North finish and South Start) - Red and 'bare' joined together for south finish and ground. Dead simple. For a simple set of mods, the versatility of the bass is staggering.
3. West London. Happy to box up, if anyone wants to arrange their own courier.
4. I can sell you the BT1 separately; PM me.
5. Price drop bump £675...! trades on a 5 string.
6. So, the actual mods are: hipshot 3 way string retainer (original ber retainer removed) Schaller machine heads (to be fitted) East J retro deluxe preamp (fits perfectly and the Fender MP jazz v already has a fitted stereo jack!) Coil tap switches (to be fitted, although the sound is pretty good without the coil taps!) ABM 6250b webmaster brass nut (to be fitted) I will also be sanding off the varnish on the back of the neck, gets a bit sweaty for me!

8. I agree, the dj5 is an immense bass, however, as a budget 5 string bought secondhand and a second hand east preamp, the mp jazz is turning out to be pretty cool. Will add coil tap switches at somepoint.
9. Send me some pics of the jazzman, interesting bass. i will try and do a better picture of the neck, does not really show up against the carpet. There is a few birdseye markings, but it certainly is not a full birdseye maple neck.
10. Fitted an East J Retro preamp; wonderful! What a bass!!!

12. Bought an East J-Retro deluxe preamp; quickly dispatched and well wrapped up. Buy with absolute confidence. Thanks!
13. ordering my upgrades: Schaller BML 534 Tuners Hipshot 3 string retainer ABM 6250b webster brass nut 2 mini toggle switches for coil taps retrovibe stinger preamp So, I should be running - parallel, series, coil tap for each humbucker, 2 x volumes into preamp. Bridge out the volume on the preamp (i.e. cut out the pot and join the wires - I assume this would be the same as full volume for a stingray preamp!?!) And boom!
14. So, who is an electronic guru? I need a circuit for: pickup A - 3 way coil selector (coil A, B, and both together) Pickup B - 3 way Coil selector (coil A, B, and both together) Volume A pickup Volume B pickup Aguilar OBP3 TK PP (I can figure this bit out!) The rest is a fecking mystery to me, but once I have a diagram, I can solder!
15. Looking at Preamps now - any recommendations/configurations? vol vol bass/treble mid Worth putting coil tap switches in place?
16. It's a good bass as it is, but it could easily be better. I also kinda like a stingray tone, which i can probably emulate from this bass and also have a jazz tone if i want it....

18. <p>
<br /> I&#39;m working on this just now, I&#39;m thinking preamp with normal (on/on/on) switches for parallel/series/single coil, though I may well look at sorting the pickups too. I fell for the neck on this bass, and the body seems decent quality so I think it&#39;ll be worth upgrading.<br />
<br /> <br /> </p> agreed! My thought is to either go for a standard setup, like the east j retro and accept humbuckers or dome sort of switching fir the coils, i looked at stacked vol/blend pots, but they are expensive. I also thought about 4 volumes: 2 stacked pots, a retrovibe stinger preamp with trebles and bass. Loads of options tba and i don't want to over complicate.
19. £699 easter bump and price drop. Adding more trades too:

MIM Fender P Bass
P Bass body + Parts
Onboard Preamp
