1. I had a Washburn AB10 (in fact 2 Washburn AB10's) both had virtually no output from the E string, PMT said there was definitely a problem with both bases (but unfortunately didn't say what the problem was) I replaced it with a Washburn AB5 which had an even output across all the strings...so by the looks of things it may not be uncommon on a cheaper acoustic bass to have issues with volume levels across the strings
2.
I've always assumed that the type and placement of pickups are the only thing intrinsic to how a particular bass sounds. Strings have a impact on the sound, as flkatwounds clearly sound different to round wounds, but that isn't an intrinsic part if the bass itself. All the stuff about different woods or body shapes sounding noticably different is bollocks in my humble opinion, at least on solid body basses. For example, my Hondo Rick clone sounds indistinguishable from the real Rick I played in a shop last week, and the Hondo is plywood!
I would have to disagree, the bass you sold me has a sound that I cannot get out of any of my other basses a real glassy piano type sound, it just seems to have a "different" sound which I think has to be down to the construction, the size and mass of the bridge and the size of the bass itself, when I tried the genuine article I think it had a less pronounced version of the same sound
3. The only guitar I have ever brought that was perfect out of the box was a bottom of the range Tokai ALS48 Les Paul even my American Strat needed a minor saddle adjustment to get the best out of it but after that it was a fantastic guitar
4. Recently acquired a limited edition German dealer only $$ Corvette, traded it for my Stingray I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at just how good it is but it does insist that everything I play on it has to have a bit of funk about it!
5. The Charles Bradlaugh in Northampton was an awful venue, the band played upstairs which was basically a galleried bar with the band playing one side of the gallery and the audience stood the other side, a good sixty feet away with a 20ft drop in between audience and band....we went in there again recently and they have filled in the hole built a brilliant little stage and.......don't have live music on anymore!!
6.
Wow, the years haven't been kind to Suzi Quattro have they... ok..I've no idea..

Coffee on screen moment!!!
7. I am not sure the rest of the band will be stigmatised by association, I know very little about the band other than the lead singer is under investigation for very bad things, replace the singer (easier said than done, I know) but I see no reason why they couldn't carry on if that happened
8. Interesting looking old thing, might be a real bargain for someone, I like the sellers description of the smokey headstock....looks more like it has spent time in a deep fat fryer! 9. Hi guys and girls, Mrs2611 and I went to see a cracking local band last night in quite a poor venue where to see the band you were virtually stood on top of the speakers, we both suffered for it later as our ears were ringing when we got home. I have suffered with irritating Tinnitus for many years but it is something I just tend to be able to zone out rather than letting it become a problem, I did notice that both guitarists in the band were wearing earplugs all night and I asked them about using them afterwards both said they were just cheap things brought off evilbay and whilst they do affect what they could hear it stopped the ringing at the end of the night. Can anyone recommend some especially suited to stage work or is it a case of try a few and see what works? Rog
10. Went to see a very good local band last night and they were using a 4 box system of RCF gear, sounded fine to me, one system that didn't impress was my little brothers Opera set up, considering the price I wasn't impressed
11.
From a high level technical perspective it shouldn't be difficult to do, but the catch might be what happens when someone accesses the site using a mobile device.
If it's anything like me using a mobile device...it's a case of try it once, get the hump because it doesn't work then wait until I get on a proper computer when I get home
12. I can't see this add.....as I really don't have an Oly White one or order due to arrive any day now.....good luck with the sale
13.
Hi Roger! I think you bought my Rockinbetter from eBay - certainly think so from your username and post. I guess your preference for a real Rick just goes to show how subjective bass guitars can be - I found the real thing to have a really awful neck and much preferred the width of the one on the copy. The Rockinbetter's also much bigger and heavier than a real Rick, but I'm six foot four tall so that may explain my preference for something little more substantial. I did have to take the bridge pickup cover off as it got in the way of where I typically play with a pick. Chris
Hi Chris, yes it was your bass and it is a cracker which was what surprised me even more about the genuine article, maybe the one I played was a really good one, I was surprised how good a copy it is as I think it actually captures the essence of the real thing but it is clumsy in comparison to the genuine article. Given the owners somewhat aggressive attitude towards the sellers of copies I really didn't want to like the real thing but the quality of the genuine article really impressed me
14. I recently picked up a copy of a very famous bass via evilbay as the seller couldn't sell it on here, anyway I have used it for a couple of gigs and at a recent rehearsal, everybody has commented on how good it looks, how good it sounds and I was really impressed by just how well its distinctive sound fitted into the original bands sound! I was so impressed with the copy that I really wanted to know what the genuine article was like so I visited my local stockist and played a brand new bass in a maple finish...I was hugely impressed with it, it was a lot smaller than the copy, a lot less of a handful, it was lighter and felt far faster to play and sounded fantastic...so, thanks to the copy I have now tried the genuine article and I am going to buy one. I think I am going to ask the local stockist if they can get me one in what I understand is a new Red colour. I guess the conundrum is for the original company, I would want copies such as this out there because they create the desire and quite frankly from the huge difference between the quality and experience of the genuine article over that of the copy the maker of the genuine article has nothing to fear. I know this argument has been discussed on a good number of occasions before on here but not having played either the original or a copy I couldn't actually contribute anything to it until now
15. The bass player in the band I used to play guitar in was very proud of the fact that his gigging rig cost him all of £60 it consisted of a formally active Hohner Jack bass and a Laney DP150 head and a 4x10 cab (guitar cost £60amp and cab free because they were knackered) the bass worked most of the time and was always in tune as the strings had never been changed, some of the bass head worked occasionally and the cab made some very concerning noises nearly all the time...the earth had gone in his extension cable and he needed to borrow a guitar lead for every gig....I wonder why I now play bass in the band!
16. I tried multiples of the Roland Cube 120 amps, it didn't really work as well as I expected, ended up selling two keeping one and adding a David Eden extension cab instead. I thought by linking the line outs to the next amp everything would be controlled volume wise by the first amp and I could just run effects on one of the other amps...I had problems with volume balances and when you turned the master down on the input amp it didn't alter the volume on the other amps
17. Squier VI on order so I could really only vote one way
18. Cheers, I will give it a go, it looks interesting
19. I bet more often than not you can hit the right note without really having to look at the fret board, when you are playing fretless you will still be able to get very close to the note without looking leaving only a tiny slide either up or down until you hear you have hit pitch....a lot of the fretless sound is the tiny slides into the notes
20. I can't remember specifics now but some years back we had two 15 inch Black Widow speakers die in very similar way that the OP describes, we returned the units to Peavey who gave very similar reasons for their demise but the technician I spoke to asked what power amp we were using....when I listed the amps we had he said I bet you were using a certain one to power the bass bins...he was correct and a bit of further digging turned up that there was a bunch of these amps out there with unstable power supplies that were responsible for destroying no end of speakers. If you cannot find another reason for your speaker failure it may be worth getting you amp checked....I am not sure how reliable the SWR stuff is but it could be a reason for an explained failure
21. Everything's for sale if the price is right!
22. It's a nice looking bass and I am not surprised the uneducated may see it as the real deal especially with the genuine? name plate on the headstock of which you don't see many come up for sale....now I guess if Rickenbacker's stance was the same as Fender's lack of stance and there was a plethora of copy parts out there anybody considering taking one in trade is likely to be a little more wary of the possibility of it being a fake. I see this as an unfortunate side effect of Rickenbacker's hard line approach to the fakers
23. I was told that analogue is not great for bass as it cannot transmit below 60 hertz so you are losing some of the real low end, digital transmits the whole signal.....don't know if that is true or not but I am sure someone will be along shortly with more technical knowledge than me that can confirm or deny the statement. I use the Stageclix jack system which is fantastic other than the need for an extension lead to keep the transmitter away from the actives on all but my old Stingray bass
24. Definately go down the "future investment route" money in the bank isn't earning interest at the moment and musical instruments don't really lose their value (well the right ones don't) keep quoting prices off evilbay...."ooh blah blah guitar selling for this much pounds....I only paid this much less pounds for mine" do that for a while and she will start to believe you are a genius investor and by the time you come to sell them as a retirement fund you will hopefully be old and dribbly and not give a hoot that they didn't make you a fortune. That's my plan anyway
