Damn the bastards! Good work on stemming the flow guys - must be a real nightmare. I don't think it would be unreasonable for authorities to publish the home addresses of known spammers on the internet, so that disgruntled recipients can go round their houses and cram the spammers' letter boxes full of pages from porn mags and flyers for viagra.
What gets me is that they think we'll actually buy into it after them having attacked our forum.... yeah great

I think he was laughing at the fact that the seller has decided to change what he said about the pickups, but you may have twigged by now
-
Meh, lots of people list them for stupid prices, they're £600-£650 new, so why shouldn't they be £500 in good condition used? They're worth every bit of the money i think, it's just a bad market is all.
I have two maple-board fretless basses at present - a '78 Precision and an '80 Roadstar - and have owned several more, these including basses with boards of ebony, rosewood and whatever it is the EBMM currently use. Can't say why, but to my mind and my fingers, maple feels and sounds so much better. There's a sexiness to the tone, this despite what the physics/mechanics might dictate. Probably just taste, but that's what music's all about really C
Pau ferro FYI. Good to see you back by the way.
Is this the same seller who over prices most of his stock? I know there is an ebayer in Germany who thinks anything over 10 years old is worth a mint.
Yup it's him And unbelievably someone hit the BIN button!! -
How so?

Looks alright that, i was going to ask if the SX jazz necks were meant to be drop in replacements but maybe not. I'm curious as to whether one would fit in my fender.... I know the headstock is wrong but i think the black blocks, binding and maple would go well with the 3TS Nice bass i have a bit of a thing for white jazzes

I do think fretless maple looks stunning though

I wouldn't use roundwounds with any fretless board mate. And someone on the EBMM forums had two sterlings, one with a maple board and one with a rosewood board. He then swapped the necks on the same bass, same EQ settings and all and recorded both of them and posted the recordings. A lot of people guessed correctly on which was which, but the difference was so minute, if any at all. Point is, it made no real difference that EQing wouldn't do. It's not the sort of thing where you'd hear it and think "ah a maple fretboard, would sound better with a rosewood one". As a rule it was VERY slightly brighter and attackier, but as i say, nothing a slight tweak of your treble knob wouldn't take care of.
I think you'll find that is Sutton in Surrey........... Anyone south of Watford gap doesnt know there that S-I-A even exists....... Me however have had some truly excellent times in that part of the world as I played Hockey fo Mansfield for the best part of 20 yrs....
Ah fair enough I have a friend that plays hockey for mansfield, can't for the life of me figure out why! Haha. I can't say much though, coming from hucknall...
Touchstone Tonewoods in Reigate do them (but they are a long way from cheap). www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk I recently got some from Neil at http://www.nscustomguitars.co.uk at a decent price and he's a decent chap. He has a container of wood, he said, including a load of maple from Canada. The quilted maple top he sent me was certainly a beauty. I ordered a mahogany body blank, quilted maple top, mahogany neck blank and a flamed maple neck blank. The mahogany neck was a bit disappointing - make sure you tell him that you want a proper blank, not something that has been worked on already!!! You may find that your local timber yard can sort you out with stuff. Champions Timber in Sutton does mahogany and maple, and the geezer who was there (when I was last there, about 4 years back) makes guitars too. However, you will need to go somewhere else for fancy tops. Biggest tip: make sure you know exactly what you are after and have the dimensions sorted.
Is that sutton as in sutton in ashfield? I might give neil from nscustoms a shout too, see what he can do for me. Any idea on prices? Without being a bit too adventurous for my first build, i'd really like a figured maple top on an ash or mahogany body... Shouldn't be too hard should it?
-
Well, does anybody on here know a good place to buy just blank guitar tonewood and exotic veneers/tops? I'd like to have a go at building my own bass i think. Make the body myself, buy a cheapish neck, maybe a mightymite and have a go at making jazz bass or something.

bartolini jazz pickups/neck oil youre thoughts!!!
budget bassist replied to ziggydolphinboy's topic in Repairs and Technical
I put lemon oil on my necks and wipe it off, leaves it nice and clean feeling. Bartolini pickups suck, they're too polite sounding, unless you like that of course. -
must admit am at a loss to understands Mike's question
I think he may have been referring to the part where he mentions a missing bridge pickup cover and assumed that a replacement has since be installed and that the description has been copied and pasted or something, but i'm guessing andy meant to say neck cover.... Sweet bass anyway, good luck with the sale. If i had the money i'd love one, i think the black/black/maple + chrome pickup covers + pearl binding and blocks just looks amazing.
-
+1 on fast fret Looks after your fretboard too but i find it doesn't last amazingly long.
-
Get a squier precision and mod it with a jazz pickup at the bridge. I'd have said a precision special (tried one, very nice) but they have jazz necks.

hopefully not!
Realistically I wouldn’t gig with anything less than 300W – It’s not all about the volume, it’s also about the headroom.
My 180W ashdown stack keeps up pretty well if i'm honest, but i am looking at getting something a bit better sounding/more powerful soon.

Tried one once, was a bit muddy from what i can remember, was ages ago though so dont take my word on it.
