1. That's nasty!!!
I recall an article years ago (Bass Player?) where Roger Sadowsky talked about "waterproofing" basses for Metallica - even putting them in the bath to test!! I think it was all about sealing the scratchplate and pots with silicone stuff....nice, eh? BB
Haha yeah newsted sweats loads live...
2.
This.
Damn, beat to me it, get one of them
3. My jazz has the adjuster at the body end of the neck too, but there's a notch cut in the scratchplate so it looks accessible enough, though i've not needed to touch it yet. Personally i think everyone should do what musicman have done with the little wheel at the body end of the neck, makes truss adjustments so easy!
4.
Are they the neck-throughs where the back of the body is curved? I fiddled with one in the shop, but couldn't get along with the curved back. I tried the 700, though, and that was about as sweet as they come. That's pretty much why I was so miffed this one got away for a £112!!!
That's the one, pretty similar to my tobias in that respect i think, i want one!!
5. I'm not too sure whether this is a crap picture or my craptop, but here's my little bedrom rig at my mum's house EDIT: it was a crap photo, here's a better one
6. yeah i saw that one.... ibanez SR900s seem to be going cheap at the moment, i'd love to get me a nice SR905
7. would positioning the strap button on the underside of the top horn help do you think?
8. Haha good point! You always know it's him i suppose!
9. I had one of these for a short while, nice guitars for the money.
10. I'd rather like this... but i'm broke >_<
11.
Jeez, that was hard work. I'm pretty sure last time i looked that the bridge on my sterling was'nt half the size of that one.
The very early ones had the old style bridge, i think just the '93 ones, then they switched to the new bridge
12. Ah, you mean like our crazy german friend? He seems to be guilty of both aforementioned Ebay crimes!
13.
According to comments on that, it is Nigel Clutterbuck, a demo for Rotosound. There's an older thread on him, here.
Ahhh, so that's why the bass sound so clangy and well.... sh*t.
14. here I KNOW I'LL WRITE IN CAPITALS IN THE BIGGEST SIZE I CAN FIND AND USE HARDLY ANY PUNCTUATION APART FROM LOTS OF ELLISIS..... SO IT REALLY ANNOYS PEOPLE AND MAKES IT REALLY HARD TO READ!!! DONT YOU LOVE AUCTIONS LIKE THIS Fantastic. On a slightly more on topic note, nice bass, i just hope it isn't really pink!
15. I wouldn't try it mate, they're not designed to work with phantom power, buy a better desk or some dynamic mics. EDIT: when you put the phantom power on, does it just send the 48v out of the XLR plugs? If that's the case you should be safe to plug it into one of the jack inputs in the desk i'd think. Just buy a new lead.
16. Yeah, £600-£650ish, so about £400 less than a 2 band ray
17.
There has to be a minimum for a USA MM though, even if a ray sells at under £600 i think half that for a SUB is unreasonable. If i bought a SUB for £400 i'd be very happy with it, if i sold one for any less i'd be gutted! Btw i can actually get a SUB for less than that, my housemate is selling a SUB 4 if anyone knows a potential buyer? I think he paid around £600, so with an ABS case (the bass is pretty much as new) i think it should fetch £400
Yeah, i do think they're almost as good as a ray, sonically they're no different, the hardware is the same, the only real difference is the paint, the body wood (alder as opposed to ash, though they used to make their solid finish rays from alder and their trans finish bodies from ash) and the lack of countours, i think for a USA made bass made as good as they are (much better built than fenders) and the sound they produce i'd happily pay £400 for one if that was the going rate. Mine cost me £370 inc shipping and i don't think i could have spent the money on anything better tbh.
18. practice your arse off mate Get to know the song properly too, i'll spend up to a couple of hours a day for a week just playing one song sometimes
19. Aye talk to OBBM, he's had mentions in BGM and everything
20. Yeah i know, i was seriously tempted by some of them, but i already have two!
21. it's pretty subjective i guess, i'm just not a huge fan of black hardware, but thats just me
22. That looks pretty classy
23. I have a friend in lincoln if you need me to get someone to pick it up for you unless there are any basschatters there
24. Sounds cool, if you like it that way, i actually think chrome looks a lot less tacky than black and i'm thinking of making my tobias all chrome
25. Haha yeah when i refinished one of my old basses ages ago i got that crazed effect, i don't think i got rid of all of the previous finish. Question, did you use sanding sealer? Just wondering if it's that important
