1. Sorry to hear your bass has broke. A good luthier should be able to sort it, it's just finding a good luthier near you. Good idea asking around your string friends. Someone here has mentioned a chap that splits his time between Ireland and the USA but I can't remember his name (the member or the luthier). He has a shop and does all kind of work.I don't think he's up north though. I'll have a dig and add an update if I find it. Here's a post that mentions him. Tom Barrett in Galway.
 2.
Stuck the Evah's on this afternoon. First thoughts are it is warmer but not louder...
I noticed the same with the Evah Wiechs. They are skinnier than the Honey's and more focused but not louder as reported by many.
Am using a Finale Carbon Fiber French bow and the German bow that came with the bass. The German is easier to use but the French sounds better so I will stick with it.
If you fancy selling the German bow I would be interested.
 3. Good luck with the resto. That's a lovely looking beast.
 4.
Not my cuppa tea at all, but the colour is fabulous. Hope you have lots of fun with it
+1 Yuck in the looks dept, but if it brings you joy, all the best
 5.
... and it transforms my passive basses.
+1 It also works great with Stingrays and active basses.
 6.
ps - Bass Acquisition Syndrome is some much better than Guitar Acquisition Syndrome.
I think GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome, not just limited to guitars and basses etc... Lovely bass.
 7.
...Oh I don't know! What the hell have I done - got an EUB to try it - now completely smitten
You found clarity and peace in the fact that double bass is where it's at man
 8. Congrats on the bass Bilbo
Having said all this, there are times when half and first positions are ideal (and open strings too !). A big singing melody on the G string can sometimes work best purely on this string, just moving up and down rather than crossing onto the D. Its all down to context of course. And we all have differing ideas about ways to finger.
I had read something about playing more up and down the neck on a DB and more across the neck with an EB, but it's such an individual choice. I do both. +1 on the context statement.
 9. Nice playing going on through out the group Ben. You must love working with a drummer like that. He has a real fluid style. Is your bass still setup with the Belcantos?
 10. There's this on ebay as an alternative if you can't find a Bass Max. I reckon the final price might be around £90-110-ish though, but you might get lucky.
 11. Note sure it's an option but the Mesa Walkabout 12 combo I now use easily matches the volume of the AI and 2 GS112s I used to use, plus the tone is fantastic. A little heavy but might be an all in one option for you. Anyone who buys this Aggie setup will be very happy indeed
 12.
Am I going to find these tough going? Reading dots is a struggle for me. I know I should be learning to read anyway but when I tried that years ago I never had a single occasion where anyone required me to read anything, so the only time I was using that skill was when I was at home learning it. Seemed a waste of time, ultimately. But I suppose the main reason I'm learning double bass is so I can continue to get interesting gigs in my 40s when I'm too old for the gigs I'm doing now. So learning to read might be handy by then. Hmm.
Well, the dots help to learn the melodies, but the cd's are also great to play along to and to work on improv. You can learn the tunes by ear and then play along
 13. Can't believe this is still here. I now have a Mesa Walkabout combo. I reckon this is the next best thing at a fraction of the price.
 14. Have you thought about getting some Abersol books and CD's? A good tool for learning.
 15. Did you buy the one that Charlie brought over with him recently on a tour? I was going to try and meet him in Sheffield or York but busy work meant I missed out on meeting him and seeing/trying his bass. He was very helpful via emails. What are your impressions of the long term durability of the moving parts and the stuff you take on and off? Also, how's the acoustic volume/tone?
 16. Congrats. Sounds like the whole thing was very rewarding. Well done!
 17. Hilarious
 18.
Many thanks BassBus, coincidentally I ordered the DVDs yesterday. We're rehearsing tonight so I'm going to experiment with EQ, and scooping was first on my list. Cheers Chris
With DB I tend to set a reverse smiley. Ditch the treble and very lows and leave a mid strong tone that will cut through. Scooping may lead to not being heard. Experimenting is key though. Let us know what sort of eq that works best for you.
I will probably be bored with it in a fortnight........Its the way I am
These are great amps. The tone from these has to be heard to be believed, especially in anger One of these has quite possibly replaced a 2 Aggie GS112 rig in my setup.
 20. This might be a good choice. The price is great for this AI Contra and extra speaker.
 21. This chaps after one
 22.
This is reportedly what happens after about a year with the pirazzis.
If you read on Talkbass then some say these die in a year, but they also say that their Spiros die in a year which is really hard to believe. Some of the people report the Evahs going strong 18 months on. Too many variables. How you play, how often you play, your bass, your tone preferences etc... This string business is a buggar
 23. Used a TNT through the late 80's into the 90's and I have a Database still lying around somewhere. The two I've used have always been reliable, the Database was bloody loud, both gave a decent tone.
 24. Has the bass been set up recently? Might be a sound post adjustment could help even out the sound for you.
 25.
OK people. Someone give me an idea what to do with this.
Planter? If it has no real value to you then maybe the local educational system might take it. Not sure how many 1/2 sized basses there are about let alone how many travel.
