1. Have you taken much material off the pup or did you widen your wing slot? I had one of these and regret selling it.
  2.
These are great pickups giving a natural woody tone without the need for a pre amp, can reproduce the sound of your bass!
+1
  3. Nice one, glad it's all paid off. Gigging on DB is such a blast.

    12" Cabs.

    Nice job and great result.
  5.
Get thee to a luthier who will asses your bass and fit a suitable bridge! Bridges come in many many different sizes and shapes -I keep a stock of about 20 different bass bridges but even then occasionally a bass turns up which none of them are quite right for and I have to order another.....
+1 A bridge of the wrong size for your bass can do damage to the bass.
  6. Bought some 9volts off Pete. Easy peesy lemon squeezy. Thanks again
  7.
Good luck with the never ending search for "THE STRING"
+1 I've read endlessly about strings here, there, everywhere. The only thing I ended up with is you just have to bite the bullet and try a set to see if they work on your bass with you playing it, and they achieve the sound in your head. Pretty sure the Spiro's won't give you a Paul Chambers tone. The Evah mediums (orch) are darker sounding, the Evah weichs (soft) have another sound again. The Innovations offer a good tone, but you have to decide what core material and what tension. Guts are a whole other kettle of fish...round and round it goes What sort of bass are you playing? Carved, hybrid, ply?
  8. Bought a Fat Finger off Chris. Nice easy transaction. Thanks again
  9. argh...must resist...need double bass....must resist
  10. I'm envious of the journey you're now on. I realise it is a daunting task and may take a while but what an adventure. Consider me subscribed
  11. I was reading a thread on TB about the fully carved La Scala bass. It was the last few pages of the Upton v New Standard thread here They seem like a very capable bass, only draw back is they are across the pond.
  12.
Do you mean too bulky?
In some settings yes. It was too big for small intimate gigs, but in pubs and bigger stages it was fine.
  13.
imo the VT pedal does a very good job of emulating the SVT sound.
... as well as loads of other tones. Very versatile.
  14. I've played a several gigs through an AI focus and a Compact. It did well. The size was the only drawback.
  15.
It's worth looking at the solid body basses from Gedo Musik on eBay, cost around £1500, made in Czech Republic, but finished in their own workshop in Germany including full set-up, and a decent ebony fingerboard (adjustable bridge, better strings etc would be available at additional cost). Not sure what the shipping would be to Ireland, but it's around £80 to the UK. Mine arrived in about 5 days, (with option of return if not satisfaied). Nicely carved 4/4 size bass, nice wood - I can post pics if anyone is interested.
Do you have any other links to the website or ebay. All I came up with is this. Be interesting to see their stuff.
  16.
AFIK if he sold in the UK it would be subject to VAT and import duty, about another 20% say. I'm not aware of any other issue.
If you purchased his bass, it's a used item so I wouldn't think there would be any VAT or duty to pay. Could be wrong though.
  17.
It also makes the difference between playing a rented bass or your own on tour.
+1 on this. While having a few basses is a nice luxury, I can only really afford to have one bass. That being the case, having a good sounding and playing bass that travels easily is a great idea.

    Feedback for ikay

Sold some lovely Villex pickups and controls to ikay. Great comms, quick payment, great transaction. Nice and easy. Thanks again and enjoy.
  19.
Charlie said he'd welcome anyone to go along and see the bass. I'm sure he'd show you the system of how the bass folds up too.
I'm more interested in the acoustic volume and tone/fullness. Half of the stuff I do is with no amp. If it can compare/better what I use now then it's a possibility. It's a basic Shen bass so the quality should be there. Let's hope the tone is too
  20.
Charlie Chadwick, the inventor of the 'folding bass' will be coming to the UK to play some shows with country artist Suzy Bogguss in March and April. This would be a fantastic opportunity to see and hear Charlie's bass in action. Check out the tour dates here: http://www.suzybogguss.com/ Steve
Looks like the dates are May and June. I'll try and make the Sheffield or York. Her music sounds nice and it'd be cool to meet Charlie. Thanks for the tip
  21. Any reason for looking at a 4/4? Seem overly big for not much more sound plus the scale length is bigger making it possibly harder to play. Just curious really.
  22. The Ultra Blacks look interesting too as they are high tension unlike the Honey's which are medium. They also have a braided core. http://www.innovationstrings.com/inn_products.htm
  23.
I have just changed mine and put the old set on my NS, the new strings took a day or two to settle tuning wise, probably because of the non steel core but had a good four hour rehearsal last night and they stayed spot on
How long have you had the Honey's on? Did they last a long time?
