bit of glue or velcro and it has a hole through so you can put a small self tapper to the fingerboard, bit noisy cos theres no earthing but i'm gonna try a small line isolator to fix that i have one on my Upright and EUB
Have you got a link on where to buy please
 2. That Corvette looks very cool, a real players bass. Always wanted either one of these or a Fortress One. Plus you're just over the hill from Wakey...too tempting Best of luck for the future and for all the sales bud.
 3. It's great seeing so many see the light. If you look at my sig and follow the Underdrive link to our set list you'll see all the tunes we cover. The format is acoustic guitar and double bass with cajon/percussion thrown in from time to time. It works, it isn't loud, and the punters seem to dig it. There are a few acoustic format tunes on the Evenhand site as well. Once you tackle the physicality of DB, the musical world is once again your oyster.
 4. Sounds like a great idea. Would be a bit of a journey from t'North but well worth it
 5. Looks nice. http://www.fmraudio.com/rnp.htm
 6.
Hey, Personal experience tells me that Acoustic image suck for double bass. I had a combo, light as a feather, with the 10 & downfiring 5 for a Double Bass & the thing couldn't handle it! Had it brought back from the states too. had to get shot of it, & glad I did! Ampeg, the Mutts Nutts!
Funny, my AI Focus 1 is great for DB. I don't use their speakers but the amps offer really useful features like the notch filter/high pass filer. Just shows what's good for one may not be for another. I love the world of double bass
 7. ...as well as the Gear4Music ones. I wish my partner was a generous as you
 8.
It's really hard work amplifying an upright sometimes, but occasionally I get a great sound and really enjoy playing. If it's not so great othertimes I just get on with it. :-)
And a good point is the sound you are after too. For the most part the stuff I play lends itself to a big, fat, supportive tone that holds it's own because there is only ever a guitarist and sometimes percussion. The tone of the BassMax on my bass through the Walkabout does that great. But when I have a jazz gig, that tone doesn't work and I have to really use the eq to get a more suitable tone, and sometimes go for a different rig. The hard thing about DB is the cost involved to find "your" sound and how far you will go. Each bass is different, each player plays differently. You never know until you try equipment with your setup. A Full Circle is next on my "to try" list. I'm bypassing the mic thing for now.
 9.
I use a Shadow Transducer pup and love my sound. It's not coloured in any way & was easy to install. Not heard anyone on these pages mention them but it came as a recommendation away from Basschat
Interesting. Which pup is it?
 10. The Upton Revolution Solo ll is a great sounding pup as well, just a little fiddly to install. Once in it gets a more natural sound than a K&K Bass Max (which isn't too hard)
 11.
Anyone with experience of selling double basses care to make any suggestions about where to advertise my bass for sale? I don't particularly want to sell it on commission through a dealer - would rather try and sell direct.
This place may be a good start There's double bass chat Also, put an add up on Talkbass in the international section. Lovely bass, good luck with the sale.
 12.
Nice one! Welcome to the profession, as my old double bass tutor says :-) I would come to the same conlusion that you no doubt have, that playing hard due to not being able to hear yourself tired your muscles more quickly than would have happened if you could hear yourself. So happens one of the first lessons of playing DB live: never rely on a monitor engineer you don't know, and always bring an amp to use as your personal monitor just in case. Jennifer
+1
PS still looking for the big-skeleton bass by the way folks!
There's this on ebay I think I remember seeing a lower bout for these on Alan's website in the past. He may have a few knocking around or can make one for you. You might consider getting in touch with him about it if you're interested.
 15. Mine was named for me by a chap I play with. Shirley, as in Bassey.
 16.
Orchestral strings sound quite nice on this bass (and probably most EUBs). There is a trick to installing the E-string where you remove the winding at the top where the string turns around the tuner (read up on this before you try it - strings are easily ruined). Unaltered strings won't fit and you will probably have to stick with steel strings rather than nylon core ones (let alone guts and weedwackers).
+1 on the reading up. Many of the owners will just snip a bit of length off the top and this seems to allow the e string to install ok without having to solder or super-glue the windings once cut. They seem like great instruments. I can definitely see the attraction.
 17. Transcribing the tunes yourself can help too. You hear it that much by the time you've finished writing it out it's stuck in your head and no need for the dots.

 19.
I don't think that a dedicated acoustic amp will give you anything better than your TC as long as you use a decent pre designed for acoustic instruments. As far as I can see,the only features acoustic amps include over normal bass amps are things like phase reversal and EQ centered around the 'problem' frequencies. Rather than buying another amp, why not get a preamp designed for double bass and use it with the power amp section of your TC? You don't say what cabs you're using, but it's generally better to use 10s or 12s for double bass I use a Fishman Platinum Pro into the Fx return of a Markbass LMII into a BillFitzmaurice Omni10.5 and it's a very clean an manageable sound.
+1 I use and AI Focus or a Mesa Walkabout, two very different amps, but as long as you control the DB going into them, you can get good results.
 20.
yeah that's what I use at the mo - great for no feedback but not the most refined sound - hence the idea for a bracket to use EMGs + the schaller rattles worse than my beetle engine. I have bass max a well and use it with a fishman platimun pro (which is excellent) - great sound but feeds back at the volume I need to play at
Is it the pickup bracket that's rattling or the adjustable pole pieces? IF the latter then you can drop some nail varnish on them to keep the rattling to a minimum. This looks cool
 21. I've got an old Schaller I don't use. I'll send it to you to try if you like.
 22. Thought I'd make an update after reading this post in another thread:
I don't suppose you've tried evah pirazzis? I'm looking for a replacement for them at the moment. I like the dark sound and the way they bow, but they are very high tension and I'd like to slap them more. Also the biggest down-side for me is that they seem to have almost no pizz sustain on the E and A which makes intonation really tricky sometimes. In terms of the thump/sustain, do you know how this set compare to evahs?
I'm finding the same problem with the Evah's on my bass, and the low end on the E and A string has suffered as well. The tension across most of the strings is starting to get bothersome. Last night we listened to some recordings made before the string change. There were intricate runs that I just can't do now I'm trying to decide what to do, f*ck about with the action, get some different strings for the E and A, or swap the whole set out. I haven't tried Spiro Mitts on this bass yet. Wondering if I should try that.
 23. Is there any kind of pick up on it? Also, got any pics? Cheers
 24. I look pretty good in a dress (so I'm told)
 25.
Hi Tom Do you own one, and if so, what do you think? Having read around, it strikes me as a good balance between PUP and conventional mic? C
I don't have one Chris, I've just read exhaustively about them and am slowly saving for one I think Bassace may have one though. They are a mic at the end of the day and will feedback at higher sound pressure levels but seem to have a higher resistance to feedback than other mics.
