1. I just bought one of these for my EUB. I haven't tried it yet but they get good reviews on doublebasschat.com. I figured it was worth a punt at the price. He shipped it very quickly
2. You could ask him to measure it properly based on these measurements on Bob Gollihur's website. http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/2-SIZES_DOUBLE_BASS_SIZING_FAQ.html
3. Yamaha's tend to be wide. I played a 6'er and the fingerboard was like a landing strip I think it was a TRB.
4. If you're not too far north-east, you could try Jan at Chapel Allerton Strings in north Leeds
5. Jan at Chapel Allerton Strings is great.
6.
If it was built in Czechoslovakia then it could well be a decent bass. The eastern European basses have quite a good rep. NS Design build most of their basses in the Czech Republic. I'd go with the idea of having a luthier look at it.
+1
7. Google comes up with that being a Chinese bass with an Italian name. It should have some kind of value, depends on the shape e.g. open seams, cracks etc... Can you find a luthier in your area to have a look at it?
8. Do these feel "plasticy"? I've played Honeys with the metal outer wrap and am wondering how these feel in comparison.
9. If you're on t'other side of the Pennines, Jan at Chapel Allerton Strings is great. Mods, maybe you can pin or sticky this in the DB section as double bass reapirs/luthiers?

Just did a very smooth transaction with Chris. Great comms on a great deal. Very many thanks.
11.
Best advice is to keep the string grooves lubricated with candle wax or dry soap, and push the top of the bridge back down when you're tuning... It's then that the top of the bridge is pulled toward the fingerboard, and the off-centre pressure from the string tension starts the warp.
The occasional "karate chop" can help combat warpage too.
12. Where are you based Tom? Yes, bridges will do that. Which way is it bending? My guess may be up? I think my new bridge cost about £80-100 fitted including the price of the bridge using a good luthier. Alternatively, there is quite a bit on tinterweb about installing a bridge if you feel adventuresome Just make sure if you do this that you keep your sound post from falling, otherwise it gets tricky.
13. Which river?
14.
EAD Foundation 212 is another option
+1
15. Nice and clean and tidy. Enjoy
16.
I have a set of Thomastic Superflexibles which came with my laminate DB...These strings are a bit too stiff for piz for my liking but great for arco.
They sort of defy their name really. I nearly sprung for a set thinking they would be easy for pizz which is all I do. Against my nature of holding on to everything I have a set of Evah weichs about 8-9 months old. Played regularly but not worn out. Sell or swap.
17. I had Evah Weichs on for a while. The Honey's were lower tension than them on the bass. I'm currently running Velvet Animas which are comparable in tension but louder and clearer throughout the range. Honeys sounded the best on this bass so far though. Have you thought about the orch Honeys? They have the braided core and are supposed to be more bowable than the jazz Honeys.
18. The SoundPost is clearing some strings on Ebay, several Innovation sets are going at a great price. There are also some Eurosonics on ebay. I have Velvet Animas on and they are a lovely string with quite a complex but pleasing tone. Great volume and easy on the hands. Weedwackers will be low tension but I think you'll lose use of your E string due to the low tension. I could be wrong though as each bass is different Get your bass to a good luthier for a tune up, string change etc...well worth the money.
19. Have you looked at the EAD cabs? http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/]
20. Yes, I run my Focus 1 for both db and leccy. It's 600 watts into 4 ohm so paired with 2 Aggie GS112s, it puts out. But, I always run some sort of preamp pedal with tone shaping in front to boost the signal and add a bit more tonal variety. The AI tone controls aren't the most dynamic, but with a Sadowski pre DI or DHA DI EQ etc...you get more flexibility. The thing I like about AI is that they sound pretty neutral so if you run something like a Tech21 VT bass pedal in front, you get that out to your speakers. As you mentioned above, they sound great for db and other acoustic instruments as well.
21. You'll enjoy this bass. The necks are some of the most comfy to play. I used one as my main bass for five or 6 years. GAS tempted me to move it on and I regret not having it now.
