  1. There's occasionally a deal to be had in my local one, managed to get a Shure SM58 for £20 with case and what not. Seen a few pedals in there at good prices, some new Boss stuff going for £20-£30.
  2. There's a Markbass 610 in the for sale section at the moment, if the other cabs are anything to go by this will be awesome. I run a MB 215 and can carry that on my own, I'm sure the 610 will be manageable.
  3. Hi everybody, Bassist available for dep gigs during August, has own gear, transport and a good attitude. Most of my experience has been in pub cover bands and function groups, playing mostly rock, funk, disco and soul. Have previously learnt set lists at a day's notice. Based in Hemel, so happy to travel around Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. Please get in touch. Stephen 07881299705
  4. Was a great day, good meeting some more of you BC'ers. Looking forward to next time.
  5. Drummer is usually there first so he can take up the most space, usually takes about 20mins to set up, hits them for 10mins while messing with the tuning then disappears for the next 45mins on his phone. This is while the rest of the band set up their own instruments and I have to do the PA then set myself up. Usually by this point most of the space is taken and I'm rammed up in the corner or pretty much at the bar with the punters! Also I don't get why it takes people an hour to set up for practice? Turn up at 7, don't usually get started till 8 because we have to wait for everyone to set up, then I'm the one who gets a talking to for turning up at 7:30 and being set up in 5mins!
  6. I am always happy to pick someone up in the Hemel area or from Hatfield Station, drop me a PM

  8. After owning a MB LM3 for a bit I would recommend using the amp EQ, I used to cut the bass, and boost the high mids and turn the VPF VLE off. Used to really help with the boomy sound because the bass EQ on the MB was set at around 80hz, meant the speakers could work more efficiently in the other frequencies.
  9. First time of hearing these guys for me, really enjoyed what they have produced. The dub influence gives a really chilled feel, definatly adding them to my playlists. Always like hearing new music and artists, cheers!
  10. Finally bought my ticket of the Saturday, shame I am going to miss Paul Turner with Shuffler, I have a gig that evening. A class band that I recommend to everyone. Would be good to catch a few of you there, I will be wearing my BC lanyard so come say hi.
  11. Nothing but good reviews for the Alpher guys and the same from me. I got the second customer built instrument from the guys and I love it. I was searching around for a new bass towards the end of 2012 and weighing up the pros and cons between getting a stock built instrument and a custom build. I was upgrading from an Ibanez SR505, so my criteria was for the new instrument to be lightweight, easy to play, 5 string. My biggest concern was the neck, I really enjoyed the feeling of the Ibanez neck, the shape and unfinished wood feel. My search took me to a lot of brands and makers. This was until I stumbled across the guys at Alpher, I saw them posting pictures of some gorgeous basses and wood blanks. I arranged to meet up with the guys and we had a great day talking about basses and I got to try a couple prototypes. I was sold. I asked these guys to build mine when I got the deposit together. I was regularly updated with pictures and news, they often asked me about anything they or I thought would be a good addition. It took about 4 months for the build to be finished. Ever since I picked her up I loved what they have done. The shape, looks and feel of the instrument is fantastic and just what I wanted. All the fears of knowing what a custom instrument is going to turn out like is there but the guys have certainly exceeded all expectations. It's worth chatting to the guys to get a feel for what they are like and how they conduct business. (Pictures would be posted but I am on the mobile site, there is a build thread out there)
  12. I recommend the Markbass 152HR, they come up for sale occasionally. I gig with one currently and it's a great sound.
  13. Hey Lozz sounds like a great idea! Can you book 2 tickets for me, PM over your details and I'll send you some money. Stephen
  14. I took my GCSE and then A-level music grade a couple years back and for both I didn't go for the most complex piece, something about grade 5-6 will get you through both. For GCSE I played Jackson 5 - I want you back and Jamiroquai - Love Foolosophy. A-level it was Jaco Pastorious - The Chicken, Birdland and Portrait of Tracy because we had to do a study of one genre. I don't recommend going too complex because it is usually only worth 15-20% of the grade, I would commit most of your time to the compositions because that is usually the greatest influence on your grade.
  15. These are great cabs, not sure I can justify running two in my local dog&duck though! This is a bargain and are not regularly on sale. :-)
  16. Great night with The Blockheads, NWR was on form and same with the band, sound was great. I can confirm that he was playing an Ampeg SVT through an Ashdown 2x15 and 2x10 tonight. Good sound out of it. Am very happy with my first experience of the Blockheads.
  17. Seeing this has got me worried now, I'm going to see them at the Jazz Cafe tonight and a large part if booking the tickets was to see NWR. Anyone know if he's playing tonight?
  18. Any interest in a trade for a Markbass 152 Standard?
  19. Hence the want to trade, GLWTS
  20. Pm'ed just seen this after sending though, let me know if you are interested.
  21. I want to break free - Queen Played this for a guy on his stag do last year haha!
  22. I go in and out of being happy with my playing. I'm currently not very happy with my own playing but I am loving the gigging and practicing more than ever, I just feel like I'm personally stuck in a rut. But there are times when I feel on top of the world with it all. As said above there is always room for improvement and I'm desperately trying.
