1.
As for overruns..this is why we are picky with the pubs we do. We do a max of an 1 hr second set inc encores..give or take, so 30 mins on from that is just not an option. If it isn't agreed beforehand, it isn't something we will do. We aren't bothered about loosing a pub that would insist on that.
Nice to know we're not the only ones who think this. I'm glad other bands are putting a lot of material and effort into an evening at a pub, just the passion seemed a bit lacking in other groups I have dealt with or seen. Would like to get the chance to see some other BC'ers bands in the near future, sounds like there is some great projects out there.
2.
Last Saturday we ran over by about 15 mins but we're seeing more gigs with a curfew (11 o'clock mostly) for the music. I guess that's down to complaints about late night noise.
We have seen more of this around, a lot of places must be getting complaints. We also had the council show up to a gig on Saturday, had to run through the noise limiter, it cut us out because some guys were shouting to each other at the bar. We weren't even playing at this point!
3. I think he has got a good feel for the crowd, It is probably more the case that we like to keep the gaps between songs to a minimum. Also we do a lot of songs that mash into one another without stopping. I don't think the songs we are doing are particularly short, it's very 80s pop rock stuff. I don't have a problem with it, just wanted to see what other people do. Also what do you do if the pub is saying "more" but you have already played from 9 to 12, sometimes we give them a song or two but in other cases the landlord is telling us to play another half hour with no extra finacial offering. What do you do when this happens?
4. Thanks for the replies. I think we must be cramming them in then. We usually kick off about 9:30 and are finished about 12 with a 10-15min break. About having spares, we have about another 40 songs in our back catalogue that we could call upon as we are constantly updating and developing the set. Usually with songs that we feel will go well or we fancy having a go at.
5. Hi all, I think my band play far too many songs. Doing some research with local cover bands recently and notice that some do very few songs on an evening and the same situation with a couple of bands I dep for. I find myself coming off stage and waiting for the other half of the set list. My band put about 40 songs into an evening, this was cut down from about 50, bear in mind that we are not a function band and this is just local pub gigs. The band that I played for a couple weeks back played about 20 songs for the whole evening but still filled the same amount of time. So my question to the people is, how long do you play for and how many songs do you do?
6.
I normally respond by saying something along the lines of 'no problem, this is a song by Metallica' before launching into a Kylie tune, or 'we don't do any oasis, but it's a little known fact that Liam Gallagher was an original member in this band' before playing Spice Girls or some such.
This exactly! My band are an 80s ish covers band and we get people asking for all kinds of rubbish but we very rarely play requests unless it is in the set already or part of the extensive back catalogue. The one song that has haunted us over the last few gigs is Purple Rain, I don't know why recently everyone has gone crazy for it. Maybe it's a sign......
7. Wow what a bass, Alpher are quality instruments and if I had the money I would have this off you to pair with mine. Good luck with the sale!
8.
Is there anything else that could help such as a clean boost in my chain that will increase my input before power amp?
This is not a bad idea as a cheap fix. You could put a booster pedal in the effects loop and that would increase the volume into the power amp section. A cheap one for this job could be the Joyo Booster, LPB-1 or a TC Spark Mini. But if you are having trouble hearing yourself maybe look into changing how the practice room is set up. If you are facing each other across the room you are going to get blasted by guitar, maybe set up in a gig-like setting and see how it sounds then.
9. So let's get all the info, you are using an active bass into a PF500 and a S12. The farting (when the 15dB cut is off) could be the amp clipping at the input stage, did it stop farting when you pushed in the 15dB cut?
10. Had my LM3 head for about two years now and have had no trouble what so ever with it. Been the most reliable piece of gear I've ever owned. Could it have been a power surge and it has blown the fuse?
11. I will happily have this off you in a month, do you have the mic stand adapter to go with it?
12. I'm very interested in trying these out, I would be very happy to house them for a little while. I would say I'm fairly central, being in Hertfordshire and have the space to store them.
13. That pedalboard looks a lot like Mr Paul Turner's.... If I had the cash I would have this off you but here's a free bump instead
14.
I've already tried an alpher ner ner ner ner ner!
I already have an Alpher ner ner ne ner ner! :-) this sounds like a great idea Chris, I'm also happy to meet up with those people nearby who want to try my fiver
15. I think the Pedaltrain Mini would suit you perfectly seeing as I am running a similar setup. Here's mine and as you can see it fits a reasonable amount on.
16. Well it's a shame they are now offering a finance option for their instruments.... Must resist, got a wedding to pay for!
17. Yeah love mine, it is Swamp Ash body with Walnut too and rosewood neck and board. Just need to get a maple capped fretless and I will be happy and gas free :-) Mr Swift did like it and commented on how light it was for a 5 stringer.
18.
yes please do i'd love to see it
This is the one that Chris took when he had finished her and a cheeky shot of her last week with Dave Swift.
19.
thanks Stephen,i'm loving it,by far the best bass i have ever played. Not sure when you saw this one as it had a poly laquer finish on it but the guys refinished it for me into an oil finish & it looks even better now. Did you post any pics of yours on here?
It does look great with the new finish, a stunning top on this. I put a build thread up a little while ago and have posted a couple since, I can put one here if you would like?
20. So you are the lucky guy who got this one! Great bass, loved all their instruments that I tried when I was dropping in to get mine. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am liking mine.
21.
Unfortuinately, the name escapes me, but someone at the bass bash had a custom made bass, that was more like a single half cut bass. I liked the look of it, and it had a nice weight to it. As luck would have it, the owner is pictured playing the bass in Sylvia`s blog, titled hall 11
Hi Timmo, That happens to be me and my bass, it is an Alpher Instruments Custom, Chrisdabass on here makes these. I wasn't convinced about single cuts till I saw this one.

Just got a VT Bass form Mark at a great price. It works great and is in pretty good condition. Great guy to deal with, has been a really smooth purchase and he sent it recorded next day delivery. Thanks again Mark!
23.
Happy to have a look at this too.
That would be great! Cheers
24.
Just a quick shout to see if anyone has any wall-hangers/fixings for basses that they might want to sell? And also, if there's anyone coming tomorrow who's a bit handy in the set-up department, as my Blade B15 needs a tweak??
I do have a couple, still in the box I think which you can have for a few pennies. My bass could do with a little tweak too, I have all the correct Allen Keys so if anyone can take a look at mine I would be greatful, especially with a gig tomorrow.
25.
would rugs and carpets actually make much of a difference?
It actually makes a surprising amount of difference, that and a set of thicker curtains aswell. It reduces the amount of flat reflective surface and seems to soak up the top end a bit.
