My preference would be the bright yellow, with a rosewood board and a black pg. No matching headstock.
Mine would be (Graffiti) Yellow, with a black p/g and matching headstock. BUT.... I'd stain the fretboard black, and have black hardware and screws throughout..

Do You Play Your Bass Between Gigs?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
Christ, I'd never manage with the crazy riffs my guitarist sends me if I didnt practise everyday! As I've mentioned in another thread, I remember Gary Moore saying If you walk into a room where you keep your guitar and not feel the need to pick it up, then maybe it's not for you.
I think Mr. Moore just identified why I play bass... But, as I don't gig, I can play as and when I want. Which is the way it should be for something which is, for me, a leisure activity. It's interesting to note that some people have cited the way in which their work impacts upon their leisure activities: If you do something a lot at work, you are (a lot) less inclined to do it in your spare time. I work with large numbers of the public, and when I get home, I'm all peopled out. Gigging/being in a band would just involve MORE people, and I just don't want to engage in all that. -
Aren't they the brass plate at the base of the neck? AFAIK you "slap" the string into it for the percussive sound... rather than sound being from the string striking the last fret. At least, I think that's how it works.. Arguably of more use on fretless, I suppose (?) And not to be confused with the ramps/fretboard extensions that help plucking hand technique/stop you digging in...
-
I rake quite a lot! I can play passages with alternating finger strokes, but with rakes and the odd hammer-on from my plucking hand, it's much more economical, particularly in fast passages. As for ascending (in terms of pitch) raking, I often use the side of my fore finger, as it leaves my thumb free for damping or the odd percussive stroke (!) whilst leaving my middle finger ready for what's coming next...
The main reason I love Ernie Ball Musicman basses comes down to tone. If you don't love the Ray tone, I'd leave it be.
There are alternatives, though; Sandberg Ken Taylor Warwick Fortress Masterman (sadly discontinued except as a custom order) Plus other two pickup designs that aren't a million miles off, notably G&L, Warwick $$ and so on.

Ever seen the Fender Breadboard bass? It's just that... A neck and bridge screwed to a flat rectangle of wood (right scale length, of course) Pick -ups were then screwed or nailed into place to see how they worked in various locations. Once they were right, the measurements were transferred to the production prototypes.. Might be worth a go if you want to experiment...

Get a Sterling instead?

See what you can source second-hand?
If this doesn't put a smile on your face and/or a spring in your step, I'd be VERY worried!
When I read posts like that, I get all excited. Alas, I couldn't get on with it at all.
Burns Bison. Borrowed one once when my bass died. Worst instrument I've ever played. Looks like balls, plays like sh*te and sounds rubbish.
Original or Korean? The Korean one I tried was better than most of the Jazzes in the (Wapping) Bass Centre that day. (US, Mex, Jap etc.) -
So if all these bits of foam are so good, why do 99.9% of cabinets have RUBBER feet?
I just think some people simply don't have a sense of humour or are German perhaps.
Achtung! It has become apparent zat zis is not a bass....

45,65,80,100,125 or thereabouts generally. Primarily because those gauges are readily available in lots of types/brands.
Thats because Leo Fender got it so right from the off - if it ain't broke don't fix it etc...........................
He actually did better than that. He did it several times with Fender, Musicman and G&L -
+1 on this; an acoustic bass unamplified will easily be drowned out by a strummed guitar, let alone anything else. Sorry, Graham, but I can't let that stand. I've heard this said a thousand times, and it never fails to amaze me that on a forum that obsesses about every detail of our kit, ostensibly on the grounds of nuances in sound, people will rush to dismiss an acoustic bass because it needs to be amplified, and say that you may as well play a P. So let's just spell it out: an acoustic bass, amplified, sounds a lot more like an acoustic bass unamplified (just louder) than a solid body does. And some of us like that sound quite a lot, which is why we (sometimes) play acoustic basses. And I've said nothing about the looks, because, of course, we all choose our kit on the basis of sound, not on looks, don't we. (/sarcasm). Sorry, I just love my acoustic bass, and the interested comments it ALWAYS gets.
And... OTOH... I tried and tried to use my Ovation in various (band) settings. My reward was usually not being heard or feedback. I soon went to my fretless 'Ray 5 and stayed there. It had a far better voice in most circumstances. I still want an EUB for these sort of gigs. Most venues don't mind a bass amp!

Steinbergers don't sound like a synth. More like a tone generator... (Generally) Gibsons/Epiphones don't float my boat. -
Definitely a G&L headstock visible on the booklet rear cover of "Strait Up" 4 string, dropped to C or C#. I guess either an L-2000 or ASAT.
Go get balls deep in hookers in Vegas, I didn't read the OP but this is the answer to all life decisions.
Vegas is too dusty. I presume the hookers to be similarly dusty. I reckon the cruise ship option would be good experience. And it's less dusty.

Pac-man, Galaxians, Asteroids or Galaga would have been preferable, but nice idea.

Nice job. Very useful. Thanks.

Two of my fives are amongst the best balanced and most comfortable instruments I've played. One is a Warwick Fortress Masterman V, the other a Vigier Passion V (series III) Better still, they're both great sounding, but like chalk and cheese sonically. Comfort and range (etc.) need not be mutually exclusive.

Dead spot on a fretless... What to do ?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Torben Hedstrøm's topic in Bass Guitars
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't adjusting the truss rod help to iron out/shift dead spots elsewhere on the neck? Perhaps just tighten it a TINY amount (not enough to alter the relief) and see what happens. Only about 1/32 of a turn against the tension of the strings. It might work. If it doesn't, just reset the rod and try something else? -
Google calanders is a godsend. If you haven't book the night off then your gigging !!
Thank God I've booked the next decade off, then.

***36 hour bumping rule in the Market place***
Lfalex v1.1 replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
Given that nothing ever sells on here anyway, I'm not entirely sure that I have the necessary TIM for this. -
I'm not sure which is the greater handicap: My choice of instrument, or my rampant misanthropy?
