1. Double post...
2. Well... I saw ST Testament Megadeth Slayer In that order in 1990 at Clash of the Titans. And actually, they were all good. Testament were the best in terms of performance and all- round ability. I also agree with the comments about Exodus, and would add that Overkill are too often over...looked.
3.
Try a Yammy before buying. Not everyone gets on with all basses. I love Jazzes - except in my hands. But if you like the Yammy, well they certainly can`t be faulted for sound, playability or build quality, pretty exceptional in all categories.
Including price in the case of the 2024x / 2025x, unfortunately.
4. Hmmm. What, then, of those who stump up the £14 for listing two items which then fail to sell. That's a fair amount to be out of pocket without having sold anything at all... Will PMs be subject to scrutiny to prevent any deals taking place outside of the marketplace environment? What if you list something at £60 and you are haggled down below the £50 threshold? That penalises the naive, ill-informed and just plain optimistic potential vendors. You've just lost over 25% of your expected return. Charging someone 0.2% of their revenue from a Ken Smith sale is one thing. Charging someone 1.0% of their revenue from a MIA Fender is another Charging someone 10% of their revenue from flogging a hard case or FX pedal is yet another. There's a real danger that mid-price items will become an unattractive proposition to sell here, and that will be to the detriment of the entire community. [/devil's advocacy]
5. I don't care how many strings it has. Somewhere between 3 and 7 would be better for me. And frets. Somewhere between 20 and 36 (excluding any zero fret) will be OK.
6.
Slayer are the only one of the big 4 that I've never gotten into, I have respect for the career they have had, but just don't like their music Is there something wrong with Lombardo that has caused him to be replaced? He is a monster of a drummer.
He probably doesn't get any writing credits, and, as such, as smaller slice of the band's royalties. He probably makes more when they tour. Common issue for drummers who don't get a share of the writing monies... Hence the "ripped off" part...?
7. Check out.... G&L ASAT (semi) Hollowbody Parker Fly Bass.
8. I wondered why a PJB might be "Sweaty"....
9. Someone has to soften the sonic attack, I suppose. One band I've been in was dominated by timing/delivery addicts, in particular myself, the drummer (obviously) one of the guitarists and even the singer. Some people complained that our delivery was too tight (is that even possible?) for the style of music we played (indie/art rock originals), and whilst the tempii weren't as furious, we sounded more like a metal band! Fortunately, the other guitarist was more relaxed sounding. No need to mention that he periodically doubled on keys....
10. Big NK fan back in the day... And I still like the songs/subject matter/lyrics now. Nice to see so many of us agreeing on something for once. In fact, thus far the praise has been unanimous
11. I'll have a dark chocolate fretboard, Liquorice frets, and crystalised ginger tuners, please!!!
12.
It's telling that I can't differentiate between a £2K koi and a £299 one..! But then who can tell the difference between a Custom Shop bass and a Chinese copy at twenty paces?
Especially if it's underwater...
13. Email Patrice Vigier (via the Vigier website) He's very helpful....
14. I thought the strings were 4, 6 in 3x2 courses (bass), and fretless 4... On one incarnation of the original, anyway..
15. Please note: Trace Elliott Bright Boxes should be stood vertically. That way the hiss has a better dispersion pattern relative to the player, and you'll hear it better if you're standing off-axis....
16.
Just shows how different we all are, one mans...and all that. I find a Streamline has oodles of bottom end through a Barefaced Compact. Have to agree on the Kingbass though....
I primarily use headphones at home. That's where it's most obvious. The bass EQ point is set too high, and the frequency range it covers is also too narrow. It's less apparent through a "real" amp. But most of my practice (95%) isn't done through a "real" amp. Which is probably why I also find it a bit bland, as there's no amp voicing or cabinet colouration to alter things.
17.
I would agree with both of those statements - the smoking ban has had a negative effect as well...!
On business, yes. On musicians, less so. At least my cabinets and cases won't stink of fag smoke, and I'm less likely to die like Roy Castle (RIP) did...
18.
A plonk ? A root ?
A "Plonk" is what I instinctively thought when I read the title..
19. Add Ibanez to your list
20.

*People not to scale...
21. Aah! How many frets do the bolt-ons have? 24, right? Maybe it IS the neck-thru models that dive. I've played a 4,5 and 6. Gets worse as you add strings...
22.
5'10" and 11st for me, so pretty much UK standard I'd guess. I do have big hands but that's just about it.
Same height, but I'm 24lbs heavier. Small hands (according to a guitarist friend). I don't own a Thumb, but do have a 26 fret Infinity SN4. It balances OK, but does throw that first fret a bit further away than you'd expect. Can't be doing with Thumbs at all. Great tone, construction, etc. etc. But most dive due to the short top horn and fall off of my thigh due to the small lower horn. I also own a Streamer LX 6 and Fortress Masterman5, so I'm not exactly anti- Warwick...
23.
Many people overlook the Fortess, not sure why, but they're a bargain often on here...I love mine (apart from the bogie green colour)
Best balanced bass they ever made. Proper lower horn so it doesn't throw itself off of your lap No strange spatial relationships between neck/top horn/body that throw the first fret out of reach of all but Gibbons (the monkey, not Billy!) Not generally too heavy They even made several pick-up configurations, too: P/J 4 J/J 4 J/J 5 JJ4 (Masterman) JJ5 (Masterman) J/JJ 4 passive (Flashback) J/JJ 5 passive (Flashback) Can't recall if they did a Pro "M" like the Streamer. Don't think so.. The only way they could've been better would be adding the concave back from the Streamer.
24.
Brilliant! I'm about to do exactly the same myself inspired by Mcnash's (and now your own) excellent results. Trouble is, I can't get away from that Capri orange colour either! Trying to convince myself that I should pick a different shade, but I keep coming back to the orange...
Graffiti Yellow! But it's GOT to have black hardware and either a B/W/B 3 ply or W/B/W 3 ply scratchplate...
