I would laugh out loud if you turned around and said "Sorry mate I didn't ask you to try it out, I asked could I try it out..."
I'd have waved m debit card under his nose, and said; "I don't want it now you've played it..." and left.

More of the same; Squier, Ibanez, Yamaha, Cort. But maybe second-hand. Check out the superb "Pingray II" - once a BB414- in the p0rn section...

Bog? No. And now I see why the EBMM boys called theirs what they did. Can't believe I didn't realise sooner!

Got a couple of years to go.... Uh-oh.
I don't like lager. Can anyone recommend a bitter that has these free straplocks on them?
No, but some upmarket oilve oils come in bottles with them on the caps. Don't go drinking it, though!
Result. Now take your Allen keys and bury them in the garden.
Should've bought a MIA Fender, then your (probably metric) ones wouldn't fit...!

Quite so. Sorry! missed that one...

Absolutely appalling live performances ...
Iron Maiden doing their best tomfoolery.
Notice Adrian Smith not messing around... Mind you, he did write "Wasted Years" IIRC. @ Dave Murray with the bass, though! -
If you need thumbrests, you either; need to alter your technique to compensate haven't got enough pick-ups in your bass Don't have enough frets (and a long enough neck to penetrate well into the body)
Another BB fan here. Currently have a BB350F fretless, love it. I tried a white BB414 a couple of months ago and it was hard to walk away from it - one of the best sub-£500 basses I've played. I'm a big fan of passive P/J, but for active you might like the 614 - I think they're £500&something new so would fit nicely in your price range S/H.
+1 on a s/h 614 or 615. All of the 414s and 415s I've played have been pretty damn good.
I use a Trace dual compressor and love it. Does the job pretty well and well built. I had an Ashdown one for a while but couldn't get on with it.
Are they very different, then?
Is "No" a valid answer to the OP?
Yes, because I'm going to say it, too. No. There, I said it. I've sold an Ibanez SRX700, Zoot Custom Chaser prototype (on here) and Stingray Fretless V in the last couple of months. They were just gathering dust, really. I've "replaced" them with another Warwick, but most definitely the "right" one (Thanks, BigJim!) I may yet sell on more, albeit selectively (eyes Ovation on the wall meaningfully) My only regret is damaging an Ibanez EDB600 I had quite severely in a carpeted-concrete-floor incident. I then finished the job in a fit of pique. I really ought to replace it when one shows up. Then wrap it in cotton wool- Luthite cracks easily, folks.

500k (log) Vol pots. A FatFinger Flats? And a series/parallel switch as already suggested... -

You know all those neck-diving, monstrously heavy instruments with necks as wide as runways and profiles like a club? They DO have a use. Making guitarists suffer even more than we have to (sometimes)
-
I have watched this thread with interest from afar. And thus far, it has focussed entirely upon the activities of the fretting hand. Are we all in tune, and know (theoretically) what's coming next, but are out of time? And which is worse? Out of tune or out of time (or wrong time signature) I'm no Theorist (Bilbo! ) yet I've had my share of explaining the difference between 3/4 and 6/8 to some people... And as for the Theorist/Luddite analogy, I think I prefer Fighter/Boxer. Seems to fit. If a little violent.

Please help me before I kill another bassist
Beat you to it...... I'm currently on my 3rd iteration of gain control protection! Firstly I put a "don't touch the gain" note on the amp, which was ignored, I then put tape over the gain control but they just pulled it to the side and turned the gain up. Now I gaffer tape a plastic bottle top over the gain control to stop them getting near it! This has worked so far and I've promised myself that anyone tampering with this gets an instant red card.
My stack has, on occasion sported a (big) sign saying; "I am not a beer stand. Nor am I something to lean against" Next pillock that puts a beer on my electrics gets me throwing a 3-bar fire into his bath whilst he is bathing to demonstrate the principle. (I have issues with people putting drinks on amps. Should carry a death sentence.) -

Yes, one of the aforementioned cables will resolve the issue. But it runs deeper than that doesn't it? Why is it incumbent upon you to supply the amplification (etc.) for everyone else? I know what you mean about "people with basses" as opposed to bassists, but do you play with that many bands that "feature" these? I guess the only alternative is to lecture everyone to turn the gain down before they unplug.. -
Just put it somewhere else. The purpose of cabs is to put sound into a room first, amp stand second.

+1. Worrying more about how the rig looks or stacks instead of how it sounds should be left to guitar'd players.
Amen, brethren! Longer speaker cable/s is all you need... Another factor to consider with valve amps/ ported cabinets may be the way in which the system behaves as it reaches its resonant frequency and (shortly thereafter) LF extension limit. There may be a peakier modulus of impedance (how impedance varies with frequency) than a sealed system. A smoother modulus of impedance would be kinder to a valve amp - fewer/less dramatic changes in current demands from the output tubes.

Neo...what...ium? Nothing wrong with big, "old-school" cabs. Just screw some reasonable-sized castors into the side and wheel it/them around! On stage, just flip it onto its feet and stack'em up. Iquite fancy another cab. Either another 4x10 (1048h) so I can run 2 4x10s or maybe a bigger 1x15 than my current one (1153). Wouldn't mind a try of a Trace 1818 either. Good thing about the trend in lightweight gear is that older cabs like these can be had for as little as £100.. I wonder what'll come next in terms of cabinet design/construction?
